Engadget keeps the dream alive with evidence that the iPhone 4G photos they posted are indeed authentic. They point to this leaked iPad image which apparently included a shot of the new device in the top right corner (see arrows above). Besides this photo evidence, they claim that they have a source which does claim that this is the next generation iPhone with higher resolution screen, front-facing camera, higher resolution camera with flash and takes MicroSIM cards.

If you accept this as true, then it casts doubt on Applesfera's claims and photos that this same iPhone was identified as a Japanese counterfeit.

More photos of the internals of the device have been posted to our forums. The original images came from Chinese forum Weiphone.

Too much confusion over this :p

There's just one thing thats real. No one knows a damn thing until steve pulls it out of his pockets on June 22(or whenever the iPhone event is) ;)

Yeah, I still don't like it.

However, since that is the real iPad, I would have to assume that the iPhone is real too.

No one can doubt the Applesfera's photos are fake. Why would someone do that?

I think Engadget have got it right here.

Sad to think that if its not the future Iphone then a japanese phone maker made a front camera to do what, ichat? My question, is there any indication of forward facing video conferencing camera for iphone os 4?

If there is indication of this then its possible this is a prototype of the future iphone, also is this maybe a way for apple to fix the reception problem by making the phone a little chunky?

I love this design. Sign me up for a new one. I don't know how anyone can say this is ugly, especially compared to the rounded cheap black plastic on the back of the current iPhones. I like this so much better because the sides make it seem high-end. I think the buttons will help functions like the camera. And I think not tapering the back will enable Apple to fit everything better and give it a much bigger battery. I have taken apart my iPhone 3G (never took apart the 3GS), and it's rounded and tapered on the back so the battery has wasted space all around it. I really think this will give us a lot better battery capabilities and also probably help cool the 1 GHz A4.

This should rock!

Looks cheap to me. I hope it’s a prototype shell. Reminds me of my old Sony Ericsson.

Look you can see the speaker, front facing camera, and then on the side the new silent switch and volume buttons

Looks like fat-nano redux to me. Seemed like everyone called the pics fake back then, and all those people got burned badly when it came out with their proclamations of "fake! fake! fake!." They just couldn't believe Apple would design such a thing.

Well...sometimes Apple really does **** it up...they design ugly products...this is one of those instances...and I bet by next year this cheap ass design will be gone. But the evidence is definitely mounting, and it looks very very real.

Honestly. The pics I see look like the designer never handed it to Jonathan Ive.
Theres a break in the case between the headphone jack and the rest of the bezel and the buttons are just unflattering.

Hmmm.

Really hard to tell - we were shocked with the black bezel on the unibody MacBook Pro's. People said that was fake (the photo was released night before the keynote) and everyone said no way would Apple do that.

So, who knows.

Agreed. I have a suspicion that if this is indeed the new iphone, those cracks aren't going to be there for the final version. ;)

Yeah if anything it's a prototype, if the next iPhone looks like that I'll be shocked. Can't wait to read Gruber's take on all this.
