This proves nothing.

Apple likely prototypes multiple designs. It's also possible that they use special engineering cases that are easy to open up to service the components inside.

Apple is highly secretive and even engineering teams are often segregated so very few people know the full picture (hardware, software, industrial design).

...as I mentioned before, the "prototype" won't necessarily match the design of the finished product, it might've just been created to test the functions.

It looks absolutely horrendous and nothing like an apple design. If this is it I might just get a Nexus One...

I really hope it's just a prototype shell. The front could be real, but the rear casing just doesn't work!

As long as it's still gonna be a hundred dollar a month AT&T contribution, I don't care. They could make that thing have a 3d Holographic display and a jet pack for all I care.

iPad + Skype acct, for both being severely limited and in their early rudimentary states, still kick the crap out of the iphone.

Unless it's available on Verizon, I guess I'll never have the opportunity to enjoy the new design because when my contract is up with AT&T, I'm not renewing it.

My question, is there any indication of forward facing video conferencing camera for iphone os 4?

Well there is references to iChat in os4. Now i have a question - is apple known for creating "prototype" enclosures for its iDevices? Never heard of that - perhaps in other companies - Apple seems to be all about the design of the enclosure first.

The Applesfera photos are faked. Not only on first impressions do they seem odd (all the extra and unusual noise around the device's edges etc), but there are some serious flaws

-in the first photo, it's a direct lift from one of the engadget photos
-in one of the later ones, a note of cash eats into the phone

Plus lots of other inconsistencies.

The question is why would someone fake a japanese knock-off... Trolling?

Agreed. I have a suspicion that if this is indeed the new iphone, those cracks aren't going to be there for the final version. ;)

Unless the "cracks" are for a user replaceable battery as some have suggested. Or they could just be there for the prototype battery.

Am I wrong for thinking the phone looks sexy and professional?

I bet apple sent in the 2nd picture and just said it was a Japanese knock off, just to throw us all off and cover up everything.

Nope, its apple trying to make us confused, they'd rather us think its fake, and thats the best way to do it.

+1

I think after 4 attempts Apple may just have cracked it and if that is the design along with all the rumoured features then Im getting one. Think it looks solid. Roll on June!

Anyone saying buttons are un-apple. Currently we have a volume toggle and a mute switch. I'd argue new buttons could be valuable depending on the intended functionality of the phone.

A button could be important if the camera is getting decent - which it appears to be. It's certainly a lot easier to hold steady and get a decent shot when you can hold it, and the flat looking sides of the handset would make it ideal for that.

Obviously if it's fake we'll all make do with a touch-button like before though. :)

So.. I put a twinkie next to an ipad and take a picture of it - that tells everyone the twinkie is the next iphone?

Interesting. :p

Every year it's like this. Always fun to see what happens.

I'm loving this. Real or not, it's very entertaining indeed.

I still say this could be an intentional leak. The new Engadget pic with arrows lends a little (only a little) weight to this.

I really don't care if they are real or not...I trust Apple to make an attractive iPhone. My main thing is I want a front facing camera, better main camera and a nicer screen (maybe even slightly bigger). Finally the name needs to be iPhone HD

I really hope that they don't use a microSIM on the new phone. That might almost be a deal-breaker for me. I love the ability to pull my iPhone SIM out it put it in another GSM phone if I'm going into a situation where I don't want to take my iPhone.

What would be the purpose of using a microSIM? I don't see the benefit. With the iPad, it was an impediment to using the SIM in your iPhone, but now it will just take away one of the great advantages of GSM technology.

I suppose I could get an adapter from these guys, assuming they're legit. Still inconvenient.
