Here's next weeks update folks:

+ Bluetooth 4.0
and a BTO option for 2.5GHz i7 on the high-end 15" and 17".

You honestly think Apple would just bump the chip and not drop price? I'd never buy that; I'd just get the Feb 2011 model for £300 less.

With the 13.3" MB Air having the same resolution as the current 15" MBP, I'm expecting to see both the 13" and 15" get resolution increases as standard. I'm also hoping for 8GB RAM on the high-end 15" and maaaaybe a 1TB HD (I think those are available in the chassis that will fit the MBP...). That would be worth paying the extra for the latest rev. A .3 Ghz clock boost? No chance.

What about the 13" any chance a bump in GPU?
- Has intel released something better than 3000 HD

Damm would hope they started using nvidia again.

So typical, I just bought my first MBP 2 weeks ago, excellent timming... :(

At least you have thunderbolt port.
I bought my MacBook Pro in January of this year. One month later they add the thunderbolt port and bump of speeds of the processors.
But that's how technology is. If you keep waiting and waiting and waiting, you'll never get what you want.
I bet when the new Ivy Bridge/ redesign thinner MBP come out next year. The day Apple launch it, Intel will be in process of coming out with [Blank] Bridge processors

Can't... really call it "typical" if this is your first. Really though, it's a tiny spec bump for a maybe 10% speed boost.. you'd never notice it in real life lol. Don't worry ;)

If you find a way to cool it! No, seriously wait for the Ivy Bridge GPUs!

Yeah, right NVIDIA! 1/2 to 1/4 of the performance compared to ATI/AMD and millions of defective chips. Good choice, really!

My 17" Mid-2009 MBP is now worthless (35 US$ according to the Apple recycling program-original value > 2700 US$). It is 100 % OK, except the discrete GPU (NVIDIA 9600M), which has the same problems as the previous generation of NVIDIA GPUs. And no, Apple does not repair Mid-2009 MBPs free of charge, because NVIDIA says their 9600M GPUs have no problem. Millions of Laptop/Notebook users (not only Apple) worldwide can tell you a different story.

They should do to it what they did to the mini.

Get rid of the optical drive and add a dedicated graphics option to the 13". That would rock. That and a resolution bump.

Ah b*astards! I just got my very first mac over 2 weeks ago (after saving, going broke, and re-saving for the past year). Oh well, I am very pleased with my 13" MBP and this only looks like a minor update.

I do however, look forward to seeing what *does* come our way! :D

I hope the 13" MBP finally gets the higher resolution from the 13" MBA.

Otherwise I guess I'll have to look seriously at the 15", not that I want a laptop that large.

oh wow, these processors in the Apple laptops. Can't wait what will be in the new Mac Pro

As you can see here there was a minor Update on October 20 2010, just about 4 months ahead of the big Update with thunderbolt etc. on February 24 2011.

Maybe that's how it'll be this time, too.

Just a small spec-bump in November and a big Update with a new design around March 2012

I hope Apple bump the 13 inch mbp to 1440x900.

I also want Apple to offer the i7 2860qm for the 13 inch macbook pro. It looks very powerful to me (2860qm > 2820qm).

Other than processor upgrades I hope they also do these items also.

4GB to 8GB
320GB to 500GB
500GB to 750GB
750GB to 1TB

I so wish I had the funds for a new current MBP right now. I've needed an upgrade since quite a while but a lot of my software relies on 10.6 (that the current MBP's can still run). Means I'll have to purchase second hand sometime :(.

CPU upgrades are always welcome.

However I have a 2011 15" with the 2,3ghz i7, and whenever I use it for something CPU heavy (after effects, cinema4d, flash) the fans go mad crazy. It's really quite loud.

I always thought Apple tried to keep their laptops quiet, but I guess with these new quadcore cpus/discrete gfx combos, it's no longer possible.

I doubt this will happen until next year's rumored redesign, when the 13" Air essentially becomes the only 13" MacBook...

Hopefully we'll see some options for some "Pro" components.
4 Ram slots for up to 32GB, "Pro" video cards, "Pro" optical drives,
multiple raidable SSDs...

Probably not with a minor speed bump, maybe with IB.

Well if they don't upgrade the screen already, SOMEONE will have to come up with a way to hack a 13" air's lid/screen onto a 13" pro's body. If Apple can't do it, then maybe someone else can!

Yeah, I'm wondering about the Air <> Pro convergence, in terms of features, displays, chassis design. The rumor of a 15" "air like" product is very interesting. I wonder if the Pro line will shrink to not quite the air thickness, and retain slots for more RAM (user upgradable) - and I'm assuming lose the optical drive like just about everything else in the Apple product line. Maybe the Pro line will also get a new, substantially higher display resolution options[?]
I think what will differentiate the MacBook Pro from the MacBook Air are:
  1. dedicated graphics
  2. more battery
  3. HDD/SSD storage
  4. Quad/Hexa-core processors
  5. Intel/AMD processors while the Air could move to ARM after OS X 10.8 is released.

What is the general consensus then in terms of when the updated Pros will become available? I'm in the same boat as a few others in terms of wanting to get a new MacBook Pro. Will be a new Apple owner, so how has this typically worked in the past in terms of availability? Is there an announcement then the Apple stores get stock in the same week? Or is there usually a lag in between? Ta.
