Apple action-comedy film "Wolfs," featuring Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney, premiered today exclusively on Apple TV+. The movie was originally slated for a wide theatrical release, but premiered on the streaming service today following a limited theatrical run last week.

Directed by Jon Watts, known for the recent Spider-Man trilogy, "Wolfs" follows two professional fixers played by Pitt and Clooney who must work together to cover up a high-profile crime. The star-studded cast also includes Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Richard Kind.

Despite positive reception from critics, Apple made the unexpected decision to pull "Wolfs" from wide theatrical release last month. The company has not publicly explained its reasoning for the change in strategy, although industry speculation suggests it may be related to the underwhelming box office performance of some recent Apple Original films.

Apple's shift in approach for "Wolfs" reflects a broader reconsideration of its theatrical release plans. Another upcoming film, "Blitz," is also set for a limited theatrical run before streaming. Currently, Apple has only one movie, the Formula One drama "F1" (also starring Brad Pitt), scheduled for a wide theatrical release in June 2025.

Despite the move, Apple appears to remain committed to producing high-profile content. Matt Dentler, head of features at Apple Original Films, recently described "Wolfs" as a "big event movie" and announced that a sequel is already in development.

"Wolfs" is produced by Clooney's Smokehouse Pictures and Pitt's Plan B Entertainment in partnership with Apple. The film is now streaming for all Apple TV+ subscribers.

Watched it in theater a week ago and thought it was a very fun movie. Not sure why they are releasing it right away on AppleTV+, but good for us I guess.

A lazy Pitt/Clooney co-produced, phoned-in buddy movie. Quite predictable for these 60+ actors. Zero effort.

It is a one hour and 47 minutes long ad for cortisol deficiency.

A sequel is in the works. A "vehicle" for Pitt and Clooney? More like a "rollator". Christ, what a waste of money.

I can fully understand why the theatrical release of this film was pulled. One word: underwhelming

Tired, wooden mannerisms. These old actors are way past their expiration date.

For some reason this reminds me of being a kid and seeing actors in their later years that were famous before I was born.

These guys were in their prime making movies when I was young, but now I have to wonder if the kids see a headline like this and say "...who?"

Watched it this afternoon, Gotta say it was excellent. I am quite surprised that they didn't push through with wide release. It's a great character and plot driven film that's well thought through. The kind of well produced films you don't see much of anymore.

It's almost like every major publisher (plus a bunch of new ones) splitting off into their own little feifdom and keeping all the IP to themselves was detrimental to the industry at large...

But who could have seen that coming?!

I don't think it's an odd strategy. These days, movies make the vast majority of their money on the opening weekend, so unless it's a super blockbuster that has some staying power in the theater, why leave it out here while it goes stale? Better to get it on your streaming service while it's still fresh and maybe drive some subscription growth.

I'm surprised it's not SOP for the big streaming services.

Have you seen the film? Specifically, did you see it before posting this?

That's some heavy color tinting in the article's image. Looks like a sort of SciFi shot, but is standard these days for all scenes I guess.

I think:
If you can get out of your own way, and/or if you like the Oceans - series - style, I think you have a high probability of liking this movie.

If you only love critically acclaimed movies or movies that are ground breaking then perhaps skip this.

If you’re not sure who you are, then watch the first 5-10min that’s all it will take.
