New Firmware 7.0.2 For Apple TV 3rd Gen.

Netflix Woes....

I was hoping this update would fix my Netflix issue, where Netflix movies cut out every 5 to 15 minutes, saying it loses its wifi connection, "retry later". I took it to an Apple Genius, and he reinstalled the software before this new version came out. That didn't work, and neither did this update. Apple needs to find a way for their AppleTV owners to update individual apps with new software patches, instead of "ONE" update for the operating software and all the apps combined. They need to make it more like The App Store, where you can update each app seperately when a new and better version comes out.

It does not. After the 7.0.2 update, my Apple TV 3 will still randomly drop the Ethernet connection, resulting in crashing apps, or the "Your Apple TV is not connected to the Internet" message showing up. It typically comes back online after a few seconds, but it still ends up interrupting whatever you're watching or listening to at the time.

And I thought my ATV3 was defective. When I have the Ethernet cable plugged in the LED light on my switch literately goes out for a second every few minutes. I tried two different switches different ports and Ethernet cables does not matter. I know it is frequent because I have my switch in another room and I only went into the room 3 times randomly and caught the LED go out twice. I was not using the ATV3 at the time.

I now have it set up wireless but I had that disconnect randomly on me earlier this year so I used the wired connection.

I think I'm seeing similar symptoms since the 7.0 AppleTV updates; I have two AppleTVs, one on wifi and one wired. The updates (through 7.0.2) seem to prevent the wired one from showing up as an airplay option when the atv is sleeping.
 
The new update does not fix the Airplay issue. It seems to work fine when you first updated but the airplay icon will still randomly disappear at different timing no matter if it's on ethernet or wifi. The icon will reappear again if you wait or wake the Appletv but it used to always work before the recent updates.
 
I wonder if this "sleep" is suppose to actually stop all services and we are suppose to wake the thing manually every time. Although it does not sound like good UX to me.

I tried to go back to iOS 6.2 but unfortunately the apple mothership has stopped signing it.

No wonder why they have great adaptation rates! We're all forced to fix something that wasn't broke and are miserable afterwards.

I have an AppleTV3,2 (A1469) that I bought a few weeks ago and that came with 7.0.1. It's connected via ethernet and everything worked fine. It would wake up from sleep whenever my phone or laptop would connect and play music over AirPlay.

However, after the update to 7.0.2 it doesn't wake up anymore. I need to use the remote to wake it up before iTunes can see it. Ironically the update is said to fix wake up issues while for me it seems to have introduced these issues.

I am not looking forward to a full Restore as I'd have to go through setting it all up again. Any other ideas to fix this?
 
While my early 3rd gen ATV was not working initially after applying the latest update, it is now reliably waking from sleep via Airplay.

Do you remember anything particular you have done to get it to wake up again? I have restarted it, let it go to sleep by itself, forced it to sleep, disconnected the power, disconnected all cables. All to no avail.

Everything else still works, except waking up from sleep.

Nope, didn't do anything. First day it updated it still wasn't working, but I used it a bunch yesterday and it's working as it used to.

The latest update is causing lots of Homesharing problems for me. First, the ATV doesn't recognize the computer on its own; I have to restart iTunes to get it recognized (which is a pain since it runs on a headless media server). Second, when I want to stream a video from the server, the ATV just sits there spinning its wheel and doesn't start streaming; the only way I have found to get it started is to reboot the ATV. Didn't have these problems with the previous version. "It just works" my a**. 😕
 
It seems like after I updated my 3rd gen appletv, I'm seeing slower download speeds while connected to the 5Ghz wireless network on my 6th gen apple airport extreme wifi. My other devices (iPod touch and several other non apple devices) connected to the same wireless network are not having this problem. The appletv along with some of the other devices are just a couple feet away from the airport extreme, and when I switch the appletv to the 2.4Ghz airport extreme wireless network, the download speeds are back to normal.

Is anyone else having this problem?
