I was at work late ,roughly about the time the gig was on, so I got nothing.

Decided to go home, but managed to forget all about it .... by the time I remembered I logged on but got the 'Server Busy' screen.

Oh well. Aspects of life seems to get by without my participation.

The first thing I did around the time of the announcements was to check the number of people online, and I knew we set a new record.

Good point Arn, I had forgotten about having to close the forums previously. That really puts the site's performance yesterday into perspective. Thanks for keeping MR a well-oiled machine!

Good job MR. I liked that I was able to refresh and still keep up with the news. There were a few slow spots for me, but overall, it was good.

I love it Arn, I can't believe CNN used MR as a source for the new iPod.

I can. :)

I'm noticing people mentioning this site more often in other forums and occasionally some other big corporate sites like the BBC.

Perhaps a tipping point of some sort has been reached especially with the far higher profile that Apple has these days.

Onwards and upwards... make it so. :D

I only received 2 or 3 "Server Busy" messages throughout the whole thing, which is quite good I thought. No complaints at all!

And glad to see a new record - that old one was around for quite some time!

I believe that I was splicing and pasting two accordion books at the time. But, I did manage to get at-least one post in during the busy server schedule.

Woo Hoo MR...

I guess if Apple continues to not stream the events we will see an increased number of us 'we-can't-function-unless-we-know-right-away-what-is-going-on-right-now-at-the-latest-Apple-event' Apple fans*(1)...

And yes, I did say 'we' as I was one of the 3,367 MR'ers playing along...

I did find it interesting that Apple would not allow real-time updates from the main event but people were updating from the BBC event...

*(1) fan is short for 'fanatic' after all!

:p

Most users ever online was 3367, Today at 09:27 AM (Pacific time).
Today's "One more thing" media event produced a new record for number of people active at once in the forums.

The rumors about and announcements of a video iPod, FrontRow remote control, new iMacs, Photo Booth application, iTunes 6.0, and music videos and TV episodes in the iTunes store got plenty of attention both before and during the event.

With apologies to Doc Q:

234 new members signed up, all but 13 were complete n00bs.

1,234 posts were created by them, all but 23 were
 moments.

One k********e seems to be a favorite of the elite, aka the Demis.

More later. :D

That was an interesting day. All that time that people knew Apple was going to release something on Wednesday--I forgot completely about the traffic and server issue for that day.

Wooot go MR!
I was part of that 3367!

ThinkSecrets server didn't survive to well.

The server struggled at first but then it was replaced by the best blue screen ever! No silly posts to kill the server, just the information we wanted.

around 1pm things were pretty hairy, server busy messages everywhere...ThinkSecret and AppleInsider were toasted too.

I was at school during the event, but I was so anxious to find out if there were updates to anything, and my study hall was the time of the event and I was upset that i couldn't enter even the main page of MR because there were so many people on :(

But then I found at home and was HAPPY!!! :D

I dunno about you guys, but MR forums were down for me 30 minutes before the event. When I heard there were not going to be live feeds, I fell asleep. Certainly woke up to a nice surprise. :D

We have plans for the main page this Wednesday, so it should be fine this time. The forums however, well, they're a lost cause ;) :D

Does anyone know what was going on at time of the previous record number of people online? Any major event/announcement?

I can't recall, but I was definitely online for it. May have been MWSF 2005 or WWDC 2004...

It was on 1-6-2004 at 12:14PM (PST) and the number of users online was 2,652.

Sounds like MWSF 2004. Not sure what was announced then as I wasn't a member of MacRumors at the time, nor did I have a Mac.

Yep - found the thread mentioning the record here.

MWSF 2004 saw the first introduction of the iLife suite and other goodies...
