I am guessing this is as good a place to post as any.. I have noticed people stating that during the record day there were issues with the site but not bad. I don't think we got anywhere near the record today (2600 when I was having issues) and I could not get through for almost an hour. Are there extra steps the mods need to take to account for the higher traffic?

The servers were just recently upgraded and seem to be handling traffic a lot better than previously. I guess we can wait and see if there were any specific problems reported today, otherwise I'm not sure why you would have had an hour of downtime.

Cool, thanks.. It may not have been a total hour, just seemed like it :) I know I was trying to post a reply on a thread and it kept popping up the "Server is busy" box I gave up and thought I would post it later but then I realized ' later' that it posted the reply anyway. I think this happened to a few people as there are a couple of double posts. Especially in the picture association game.

I had the same problem. I sat hitting refresh constantly for about fifteen minutes and just got the server busy response. I then kept going back every five minutes or so and refreshing and still just got the server busy response :(

Maybe you would have gotten in sooner if you hadn't been hammering the server with requests, thereby making it worse for yourself. :p ;) :D

I thought of that so I stopped refreshing... for 5 seconds. :p

With these events, there's going to be some issues with performance. Fortunately we have room to grow if we need it. We can split the vbulletin PHP server into two.

But it appears we only run into problems when we have some major event. Usually this happens a few times a year at most.

We'll keep an eye on it. if it becomes a habit, we'll upgrade again.

I wouldn't worry too much about it Arn. As you said, for the few times a year it happens, it doesn't really warrant upgrading the servers, since they run perfect the other 95% of the time. If there was an interim solution which could be put in plcae solely for these high traffic events, fine, but otherwise I'd say just do the best you can, as new servers may not be the most cost-effective option right now. After all, the existing servers are pretty new themselves!

We'll see how things go for MWSF.
