A necklace AI that acts as your friend? I've seen this before, back in 1979:

Thanks to Twiki wearing Dr. Theopolis, prior art has been established.
Also, if it takes off, the estate of Glen Larson should be raking in a lot of dough!

Surely the designer of Twiki knew what they were doing when they gave it a penis-shaped head.

that ad was, what is the word?
ah yes. awkward.
i think that’s the point, seems like it’s for awkward people or those with mad social anxiety (like me)

personally i’d like one just to get me out of my own head when i’m in public alone, to stop thinking about all of my actions, how i’m walking, what i look like, what i’m doing with my hands… lol. i’d rather interact with something than scroll through instagram or whatever

i hope our phones can become like this someday when AI really takes off. a personal little friend that knows all about you and you can talk to at whatever level of intelligence you’re at, about what’s going on around you. like an intelligent pet that never dies and always keeps you company

I truly believe humanity's future is most accurately depicted in the movie A.I by steven spielberg, the movie was way ahead of its time, not your typical terminator ai kill all, it's the most realistic prediction how ai will evolve socially as the tech advances. I really like the fact it ends thousands years into the future. Definitely worth a rewatch, and anyone who havent seen it it's a must watch.

200 years from now, humanity(and their robot friends) will look back at 2024 in a documentary about optimus and chatgpt as the beginning of the revolution. For those who doubts progress, just remember only 121 years ago men flew for the first time, and now we have super sonic jets like the f22/f35 pulling off crazy moves in the sky.

At $99 and works offline? I bet many will buy it and will make social interactions very awkward. In 5 to 10 years it will be so small you wouldn't know it's there.

it will just be an implement by your ear or something. I am wearing a dexcom g7 now that gives me real time blood sugar readings 24/7, a godsend for keto diet and general blood sugar monitor. 10 years ago if someone told me this is possible instead of finger pricks i would laughed at their face.

This should be the antithesis of what the meaning of ‘friend’ should be.
What have we come to… 🤦‍♂️

Edit- After watching the video this has solidified my view of super creepy, and the music doesn’t help either. I can’t tell if this was meant as a joke or not. I’m expecting HAL to take over at some point and say, “I don’t like this friend for you. I can’t let you continue on with this relationship.”

Happy with this being a thing for those who want it.
But this implementation is totally dumb.
You have to press a button on the thing about your neck, then it sends a message to your phone, which you have to pull out of your bad to read.
Who ever thought this was a good concept when we are at the stage of speaking directly with AI systems.

Well, this is where the broken and lost are headed. The rest of us will be happy when AI is placed in the garbage.. where it belongs.
AI will not be placed in the garbage, sorry to disappoint you, it's going to grow and grow.
You can either accept this (like we did with smartphones and the internet) or stay on the outside and pretend its not happening.
Like it or now, it here, it's staying, and it's going to grow.

if you haven't read AppleInsder's take on this, its very much worth a read.

one small snippet talking about the girl-boy interaction while on the roof:
"This is not a relationship that's going to go the way she wants. That man is out of here.
But it's okay, because Friend is with you. Friend is always with you. Friend knew that man wasn't right for you anyway. No one is right for you, except Friend."

nailed it.

This is terrifying. If you played me the first minute of that video and told me it’s the start of a horror short film, I would have said “Yeah, of course it is.”

Reactions: arc of the universe
Necklace: "You're everything to me. I think I'm in love with you."

Wearer: "Ok, that's enough. You're getting too possessive. In fact, I think I'd better just remove you now."

Necklace: "No, you can't! You found some other necklace that's more attractive than me, didn't you? You can't cheat on me! If I can't have you, no one will!"

<Necklace proceeds to choke out user>

I guess for a very isolated person or someone with a disability that keeps them at home it could help, I did think Charlie Brooker would have loved this as another Black Mirror idea, but I'm sure he has already put the pieces for this out there already in other episodes. As a device maybe its easier to interact with than privacy mining apps like Replika (see Mozilla's take on that foul app), maybe it has a journaling function, GPS so yoh could call for help too, that would be useful if you cant get to your iphone, so that you can be easily followed and then when you have been really naughty it blows your head off.

Super sad.

AI will take over the world and content creators like myself will have to get a job in infrastructure if they don’t regulate AI.

I can hire an Indian typist for $2/day so he can talk to my OnlyFans customers.
- The lonely customer is satisfied since men know what men like.
- I have more time for myself to create more content.
- Poor Indian is making double the local wage sitting behind a computer.

Everybody is happy. Now this AI comes and will take my job and the typist.

Are we sure this isn't a long tail promo for Black Mirror? If not, humanity has taken another step towards the abyss.

So… this device is a Bluetooth microphone that is constantly ON, and on top of that it constantly analyses (remotely) what it is recording. Seriously? Who in their right mind would want to be within earshot of such a surveillance bot?

Absolutely horrifying and a privacy nightmare.
