But why stick the part code to the device? Seems an odd thing to do...
If there was more than one version of the item (a choice of drive sizes), it would be one way to make sure the right machines go into the right boxes. The lack of a serial number label makes me go hmmm, though.

It looks like MB to me, not M8. The bottom left of the character is B like, not 8 like.

Looks like MB to me too

If it's not real, I doubt it's far off the real thing when it turns up

Pancake Day

Feb. 28th, 2006 is Mardi Gras. Coincidence? I think not!

Obviously, they're releasing a new lanyard for the iPods, made of beads instead of plastic. When you put it around someone's neck, they show you their... OOPS.. I've said too much...;)

Dunno about Mardi Gras, but I do know February 28th is PANCAKE DAY, so I think they're going to produce a tablet mac that's as flat as a pancake!

Full lenght movies for sure!

Apple will probably add a new service to download full lenght movies, but not under iTunes. It will probably be something new like iCinema or something like that. Here's the proof: this image was under the iMac's order page for several days after it was introduced but was later removed. The icon is different from the one currently used in Front Row (iMovie), clearly indicating a change in the category of videos. Why put a cinema style icon...they will add actual films of course.
Well we'll figure it out on the 28th.

That's funny, I remember that at being there at the time. That does seem interesting. I am just a little surprised to see a Front Row overhaul before 10.5.

As for the image of the new ipod being in the same resolution as an eMac, well apple CS reps use eMacs instead of iMacs, could this be part of a training video?

?!?

 Would it be so impossible to maybe be coming out with a simple addition to the IMac that lets you turn it into a PVR. After all they are using ATI cards which makes tuner cards into alot of thier video cards. I dunno just a shot in the dark, I don't have the balls to take my intel IMac apart to look and see if anything could be a tuner card already built in but not activated. I know that when I do a clean install of my win xp system, I say clean lightly. I know xp does not reconize the tuner part of the all in wonder untill the drivers are installed.

Any chance?

You want to know what that is? It's nothing more than an iMac G4 20" screen, backed up by a white sheet and some speculation...

Or it may not be so... ;)
There are a variety of reasons for believing this to be bogus, and I think you're close: the major issue isn't that it might be an iMac G4 screen someone's cropped (which I don't believe it is), it's that it has the same styling as the iMac G4 screen (and, FWIW, the original 1G/2G iPods), the whole "glass on white thing. This, quite honestly, is not the current Apple look, they've moved away from it.

Other reasons I'd add would include the screen image (a CRT test card?) and a number of comments elsewhere pointing out retouching has apparently gone on.

I love the idea of the iPod Video/PDA thing (or rather Apple version of the 770, with client-to-an-Airport-Bonjour-iTunes-server support), but this isn't it.

All this speculation could be way off and we could be looking at software BTW. The iCal styling might also be a clue to this, though I haven't a clue what could be date-related and fun. Well, other than "two person dates" (ie "going on a date" rather than "28th February" date), but I don't see how an Apple product could encapsulate that either. A software product might also explain the lack of concrete information - hardware's difficult to keep secret, but Steve could announce software to be on sell on the 14th, keep to that timetable, and not have a single CD pressed or box printed.

Holding an entire press conference for some dating software? While I think you may be on the right track with not getting all caught up with a video iPod, releasing software would seem to be a GIANT let down, and a media nightmare. I'm still hoping for a mac mini with some DVR capability.

Bah!

Clearly, the iCal icon is there to throw everyone off. My inside sources tell me Steve teamed up with George Foreman to come up with the Lean Mean Computin' Machine. Sorry, MacBook Pro buyers, but it has already been upgraded to make grilled cheese sandwiches when you close it. Amazingly excess fat just drains right through the keyboard!

And when people get too close to you, to see the new computer, you can exclaim, "man, stop getting all up in my grill!"

Anyone know WHEN this little event will be taking place on Tuesday? And, will anyone (meaning websites) be there covering it live?
