Gorgeous

This phone IMO, looks gorgeous. The 1-piece back really does it for my eyes.

Edit: not the ones above btw! Although I do still have one in black which works fine!

Well, to be fair – apparently it learns your voice (or your diction) to allow it to be more personal and, I assume, safer... so that I don't ask your phone to give up personal details like your girlfriends number or text history with a friend or co-worker. That being said the video review done by The Verge said it's accuracy was good, but not great.

Brian Klug's description on the latest Vector Podcast talked about how MotoX's "Ok Google" trigger word keeps kicking off the device, so maybe it can't learn your voice.

New High-Resolution Photos of Low-Cost iPhone Rear Shell Surface, Pricing Similar to iPhone 4?

If Apple can pull off a two-pronged approach to this year's iPhone lineup, then the competition will be hard-pressed to keep up. Here's what could happen:

iPhone "5S" - AuthenTech in-screen fingerprint sensor, a must-have feature
iPhone "5C" - no fingerprint sensor, mostly iPhone 5 components, lower cost

Since Apple owns AuthenTec, and since they also own AuthenTec's (hardware) patent portfolio, they'll be able to keep cloners from copying the in-screen sensor. iPhone "5S" and all subsequent high-end iPhones will stand above all competition, and the in-screen fingerprint sensor will be a must-have feature.

And it gets worse for the cloners. The "5C" wouldn't get the fingerprint sensor, and neither would subsequent years' "C" models. Apple will be more than happy to compare the "5C" directly against any and all Android handsets, because they will also all be lacking that in-screen fingerprint sensor. And the "5C" will be Apple's second-tier low-cost iPhone model. Thus demoting all Android handsets to second-tier players in the smartphone market.

Here's my wild guess as to the iPhone models and prices this year:

$399 iPhone "5S" 64GB (black/slate or white/silver)
$299 iPhone "5S" 32GB (black/slate or white/silver)
$199 iPhone "5S" 16GB (black/slate or white/silver)
$99 iPhone "5C" 16GB (multiple colors)
$0 iPhone "5C" 8GB (black only)

So Apple will be able to position the "5S" as unique among all smartphones.
And they'll be able to compare any and all Android handsets to the $99 "5C".
If and only if all the rumors are true (in-screen AuthenTec sensor, lower-cost "5C" model.)

My predictions for iPhone in Fall 2013

Current pricing (on/off contract):
iPhone 4 8GB $0 / $450
iPhone 4S 16GB $99 / $549
iPhone 5 16GB $199 / $649
iPhone 5 32GB $299 / $749
iPhone 5 64GB $399 / $849

Next gen pricing (on/off contract):
iPhone 5C 16GB $0 / $449
iPhone 5C 32GB $99 / $549
iPhone 5S 32GB $199 / $649
iPhone 5S 64GB $299 / $749
iPhone 5S 128GB $399 / $849

iPhone 5C will get you the same iPhone 5 internals in good quality plastic case at a $200 discount from current pricing. The multiple color options will be quite popular.

The $100 premium to move from the 5C to the 5S will get you an aluminum case, faster processor, improved camera, 802.11ac, and a fingerprint sensor. Thought of another way, you get double the capacity plus improved hardware for the same price points as the current iPhone 5.

My guess is the iPhone 5C will be an iPhone 4S 16 MB for the same price as the current iPhone 4 8 GB.

I hoped they would have learned from the past . Either go cheaper and get more volume or go
Mire expensive with margin . Now they are lowering the margin by stealing sales from higher end iphones but wont get the volume . If its truly 450 without the 4 esthetics and the meager specs plenty of current handheld already surpass it for s lower price .

And indont ser them put in top hardware as it would eat even more in own sales .

Others are reporting not ready for prime time. And also report moto x battery life claims are misleading.

So they want to try and sell an iPhone that doesn't have the same build as the iPhone 4 for the same price as an iPhone 4? Off contract that is.

I like the look of it no doubt, but I wonder if they're just putting the iPhone 4 into a new shell.

Yeah they're going to release a new phone that can barely run ios 7

It will have iPhone 5 specs, I'm sure of it.

The first photo is an unfinished rear case or a photoshop. Cause there is no designed in california and all that text there.

We have been patiently waiting for over nine months for a new product release from Apple. How proud they must be to give us last years model in cheap plastic. Apple is amazing.

When you see that Apple has the 4/4s & 5, it really makes you wonder what will actually be inside this new shell. 4 CPU!, 5 camera, 8 or 16GB storage, 4 screen!

It could be a huge mix of very old tech.....and yes, at the soooo cheap price of $490!!

What with a phone size that could do with being a little bit bigger, an iOS that could do with some Android magic, i feel Apple is falling behind.

Id say not, i've read a review of a the Moto X where it was unplugged in the morning of Day 1, and at evening of Day 2 had 28% left, with heavy use.

I don't know if this has been brought up before or not, but is there any chance the iPhone 5C will be the only new phone Apple releases this year? There seems to be a bunch of 5C leaks and not much on a new flagship phone. Seems like it would make more sense updating a product line each year vs having the S bump that ultimately disappoints the masses.

Thats exactly what i thought. Unless the manufacturing chain is completely locked down with no leaks, and the ones we've seen ar Apple leaks. That would give them the space to be making a 5S without any hints.

----------

What exactly did Motorola innovate on the moto x??????

Really?!

The X8 CPU is what all phone makers will be doing next year. That system is innovation.

it's actually a great way to expand the iphone community, now almost all those people who wanted an iphone will be able to have on, i'm just worried aboutone thing, moving to plastic from glass might affect sales, but i know apple will handle it flawlessly by putting tons of features and pricing it really low.

or... this could be an iphone for the china market, that works only on china's frequency.

How is $490 low priced?? that's still the same price as an iPad!!

IMO, this may be a quote for another Apple stock short. I bet the price will be a lot lower than the "experts" are claiming and it is a six colors of iPhone rocket ride for the rest of the year.

How many times are we going to see this same plastic phone story?

It's no surprise to me, this is how Apple operates, repeat any story or slogan enough times and you've programmed the faithful to believe it. Keep repeating it and the followers do to. Now it's real in their minds and that's what matters.

We see it here, Apples got them believing the only worthy material is aluminum and plastic is cheap crap. At least until Apple blesses it for their use. Cue the faithful to switch gears and suddenly plastic makes sense. Build a plastic product, use magical marketing spin with clever words and it's changing people's lives in radical ways.

Why is this a "must have"? Most polled users see no reason for it.

That is the truth. Just do a quick search on here and look at all the plastic Galaxy bashers and the "I would never buy a plastic phone" people. Many of which have posted how great this is now that's it's an Apple.:p

The original iPhone was plastic. The original iPod was plastic.
The original iPhone was aluminum. The original iPod had a stainless steel back.

What is innovation? Why do u feel a phone has to be reinvented every year?
True - not every generation can be revolutionary. Though after a couple of years of evolutionary steps it wouldn't hurt to introduce some really revolutionary things again (like haptic feedback or simply a quantum leap in battery life similar to the new MBA's).

Especially with competition catching up and hurting Apple's image of being a trailblazer in consumer electronics.

----------

maybe it needs a "safe word"... like "OK, Google Now Apricot"
It would never get old to stand next to someone using his MotoX that way, getting to know the "safe word" and then shouting "OK, Google Now Apricot <some embarassing terms>" :D

Here's what I call low-cost:

$199 without a contract

$9.99 with a contract

Will it ever happen?

Never.

So low-cost my ass.

When millioners decide price of "low-cost" they have no feeling about what low-cost really is.

For me, 5c is too close to proper iPhone 5s (or whatever it will be called). If i will have 450$ to spent on the phone, then i would add 100 or 150 to buy proper phone and NOT 3 years old hardware from iphone 4 packet in plastic shell.

But this is only speculation because we don't have official price of "low cost" iphone.

But despite each point you made, each feature qualifies as an innovation.

Yes but not every innovation is good. You don't need innovation for innovations sake.
I could sell you a phone case which would have an integrated electric shaver.
It takes the akku from your phone.
Wow that's innovation.
But is it good ? No.

So why bother ?
I also could add a toaster to a smartphone, does it make sense if it doesn't work reliable ? No.

What most people don't realize (and i think they don't WANT to realize) is that sometimes it makes much more sense to ignore a feature if you can't do it right.

And that's something that apple does all the time. Heck they made a wwdc video exactly about that. For every yes thousand no exist.
