THIS. THIS is why eliminating headphone jacks is so profoundly stupid. Non-musicians simply don't get it.
In this case, having a headphone jack would STILL mean there would be loooong cables. The OP doesn’t want the cables at all, so any wired solution, even headphone jack, would be insufficient in this specific use case.

All I did was update the two mini’s I own in the home app with Beta update still switched on for it to get the RC audioOS

Once it completed I thought I’d give it a try and see if the feature was implemented yet so said hey siri what’s the temperature in my kitchen. It then said sorry this feature is still being setup. Please try again in a few minutes.

I tried again about 5 minutes later and it spoke the room temperature including a decimal point value which was 12.4 degrees Celsius.

After that this is when it showed up in home. Here’s the actual new icon that appears to view the temperatures.

Thank you! I updated my phone as well, and now it is working! I'm not sure if it is because of that or just giving it more time, but I'm stoked to have temperature now :).

My roommate likes to keep the house COLD, and I have a wall heater in my room, so I am very excited to be able to automate that to keep me from freezing

Going by my humidity stats my bedroom is quite high which I’d never have known so now I’ve opened the little vent above my window it’ll be interesting to see if the stat lowers from doing this? Hopefully the sensors are accurate.

Google: We’ll enable the hidden microphones in your Nest tomorrow. Just kidding, we’ve already done that.

We’ll celebrate Apple resurrecting a dead product this time by shutting down Stadia.

Look forward to Siri's confusion when reporting temps from temp-sensing HP mini and my Mysa smart thermostats.

I'm done with voice assistants. They don't help me at all. I've disabled Siri on all of my Macs because I never use it anymore. Feel free to disagree to this post to your heart's desire.

But regardless, I suppose a temperature/humidity sensor is useful...
I never saw the use case for voice assistants UNTIL I started wearing my Apple Watch. It can be quite useful for setting alarms / times, recording workouts, etc., without having to poke at the tiny screen with my big clumsy fingers.

For other devices ... naw.

I’ve been searching for a smart, plug or outlets that can accommodate her through the wall air conditioner. This would make it even more useful – but I can’t seem to find one anywhere.

Welp, I just bought a combination thermometer/hygrometer for my room! Didn't know my current Mini had these sensors already. Folks on the beta - do you know if you can check temperature/humidity in the Home app or are readings not available and only used to trigger automations?

they show in the home app under climate and you can also ask Siri on your HomePod what the temperature is too

Right, and AirPlay is not a music making system. AirPlay is for the distribution of a non-real time audio signal with protections built in to ensure that bandwidth fluctuations, local networking issues and and signal drop out will have little impact on the signal delivery. “That the audio gets there, in high quality, in synch, consistently” is the focus with AirPlay. It’s not designed to be the output for audio being live captured (like as a PA or Karaoke system).

Like you said, the only way to do that would be with cables… OR, actually, there are some proprietary non-AirPlay wireless devices that could possibly do it.
btw. my speakers are wireless. and have a latency of <10ms. the protocol is WISI. Well known in video production aso.
My messi apple solution is annoying cables going from an ipad to a streaming hub (usbc to a hub, then 3.5mm headphone to chinch) then streaming with wisi protocol 96khz, 24bits.
So in conclusion, wireless works, but not with apple.
airplay is a low end protocol for audio and i suggest they can do it better.

That’s actually what I meant by “some proprietary non-Airplay wireless devices” could do it, as WISI is proprietary. You’re right, AirPlay is an inexpensive low end solution not meant for video production. One benefit of that, though, is that an AirPlay setup can be fairly inexpensive compared to the price of a WISI node and accessories.

Huh that's weird, I can't seem to get the update. I've updated my phone to iOS 16.3 but in the Home app there's no Climate tab. When I check for HomePod updates, it updated one of my HomePod Mini from 15.2 to 16.2, and now it says everything is up to date. Both HomePods and my Apple TV are on 16.2 and don't have any beta profiles installed.

Edit 1: Advanced Data Protection isn't enabled on my iCloud account as it's not rolled out to my country yet, so it can't be because of that.

Edit 2: I turned on beta updates for both HomePods and now it says there's an update available, but the update is once again 16.2, despite the fact that both HomePods are already running the public release of 16.2. Is it going to update from 16.2 to 16.2? Weird...

So far it’s only shown up in bedroom HomePod so far. Dunno if it’s just taking ages for the lounge HomePod to update
