I have the same problem with Echo Dot 4… “it’s normal“ that a silicon or rubber surface could stain the wood… for this reason our grandmas used doilies😂
Right?! :)

It's interesting that this is like someone or some field thinking they've discovered something new and its the first time that this has ever been done. This issue is so old, it's like, can we just teach tech geeks about this rather than turn their surprise into a news flash? :)

This is such a non-news, isn't it? :) Anything with silicon feet can, over time, create some kind of marks on a wooden table. It's not unique to HomePods or what not.
It's definitely overblown. I have placed my HomePods in various wooden surfaces. I am not saying the issue doesn't exist, but they have never left any rings. If you will be placing it on expensive wooden furniture, get felt pad stickers.

It’s Apple so of course it’s a hot item. Honestly all these minor things are just irritating. I have had to deal with Apple “hate” forever and frankly I’m just so sick of it. I do not like telling people I use Macs, especially my gamer friends.

Nevertheless, Siri still lags behind competitors like Amazon's Alexa and Google's Assistant in some areas.

Article Link: New HomePod Can Still Stain Some Wooden Surfaces
Like falsely activating when you didn't say 'hey siri', being randomly unable to perform tasks with third party apps, not being able to play music from a local mac library, being unable to play music simultaneously on multiple speakers in sync, completely misunderstanding what you said (when it's worked previously), etc, etc.

As for the ring? I guess Apple's too cheap to buy three felt feet.

Sure, but according to some reviews, it starts staining within a few minutes...not "over time". I'm sure there's a more chemically inert material Apple could have replaced it with, like they did for the mini.

They could at least have upgraded the circle to an Apple Logo ;)

It could also depend on the kind of surface it's on. Would a Mini on those reviewer's surfaces mentioned stain just as quickly?

What on earth... receives product feedback, discontinues product, rereleases product, doesn't incorporate product feedback.
What would you suggest they use as an alternative for the vibration-damping silicone base? Given the fact that the issue is lessened this generation Apple clearly tried to listen but couldn’t find a solution that completely solved the issue.

There are great solutions available online. How about a HomePod Stand? My favorite! Honestly, these should have been offered by Apple. A Midnight HomePod stand would be nice!
Apple WANTED to make these available, but the EU and the UK both informed Apple that they would not be allowed to have an unfair uncompetitive monopoly on “Apple HomePod Stands”.
