The colourful HomePod mini looks great. Seems like it is readily available and no long wait times unlike other Apple devices.
Yeah because most people know that it is a crap product. Only the most diehard Apple fans are purchasing them…

Still not a compelling product... No matter how much makeup you put on the “pig,” it is still an ugly pig…

Made the mistake of getting a white one, then made the mistake of making it a travel speaker. It is now a mild beige shade of color which is somewhat amusing.

Anyone looking to use one in travel, or go portable with it (USB-C battery pack), be sure to consider a darker color! ;) .

Now your HomePod mini is customised color that uniquely reflects your use.

I agree I had an original HomePod and its night an day, the mini is not close, I wish I could find another set of the original.

I really wish Apple would release a higher audio quality speaker in their home speaker lineup (ala the original Homepod). I have two original Homepod's and one mini. The mini sounds OK, but it's really nothing impressive. The Homepod's on the other hand...very good Sonos competitors. I'm moving into a bigger house and am torn between adding additional Homepod Minis with their OK sound or having to go with Sonos.
it makes no sense that they decide to go lossless and high res and then downgrade their speaker line

Such Odd Colors. if they wanted to compliment homes I'd think brown or beige would be best and if they want to appeal to girls I'm sure pink would sell like crazy. I can't imagine wanting yellow or orange.

I'd be interested to see the sales figures for the original HomePod and how the Mini is faring. Much as I love the original HomePod, it appeared over-priced in the smart speaker market and its lack of any traditional input limited its chances in the more traditional market.

I think the Mini sounds pretty good for its size, especially as a stereo pair.
all good points. but they also make Mac pros that sell only to a limited customer base. and their excessively priced AirPods max. apple continually says music is in their DNA - and look how big of a deal they've made about their recent lossless and spatial audio features. to have a speaker that sounds only ok with no real bass anymore when they did have the original HomePod that by most reviews sounded great just doesn't mesh. apple has a long history of making great apple branded speakers - thinking back to their G4 cube speakers, the isub w/ sound sticks collab with harmon cardon...they have, can and should do better than these little "toy" speakers as the only option right now.

I just see no reason to discontinue the larger, better sounding HomePod without a replacement. wish they'd bring back

This is a much more cost effective way to have a robot overlord endpoint in every room of my house :)

I totally agree. FWIW, we have three of the original Homepods in rooms for music and I have a stereo pair in the living room - eARC means they're now my main speakers for ATV, Xbox and normal TV. They're fabulous products and its a shame they're not making them anymore.

But I do see why they struggled in the marketplace... as well as seeing why Apple made the decisions they did.

We also have some HomePod Minis in the house and I like them, but just not as much as the large ones. They do make a decent stereo pair for music, especially if you don't have the room for the large ones on a small desk for example.

“Why the hell they make a Martini’s olive instead of match color screen?!”
‘Cause space grey (or black, as older iPhone, Apple Watch and others products teach) screen is full of scratches and fingerprints in two second before unboxing.

“HomePod mini worth like 50$ Alexa and Google”

Send me your 50$ Alexa and Google cause that crap here are good just for trash.

“Sonos is better”
Yes, also the price is bigger, a little bit.
There also a little bug with Sonos, they aren’t an HomeKit Hub, while the little 99$ HomePod mini is. And the other HomeKit Hub is Apple TV, nor exactly a trend product (I had a Gen 3 from 2012, think I know how it works) nor cheaper.

“Ok, but HomePod..”
HomePod not sell enough.

Have a couple of Minis in my house, use them quite often with Siri to play music, check weather, send messages, etc. Didn’t actually realize how much I use them until I went out of town this past weekend with my JBL Charge. If Apple would make these travel friendly, I think they would sell like crazy, but that’s just my 2¢

PD USB-C power pack and your HomePod mini set correctly, they make an awesome travel speaker. It is all I use. My Sony / JBL BT speakers sit at home unused now.

My blue HomePod mini just arrived and it’s not pairing on any of my devices. Waiting for 15.1 to finish installing on my phone and hopefully it fixes that bug.

I got two orange minis to use as stereo desktop speakers for my iMac. They're fun! I was using two full sized HomePods as desktop stereo speakers, but one died the pop of death, and I wasn't about to go spend that kind of money on another used full sized HomePod on eBay. I'm using my still-working full sized HomePod as a "subwoofer" with the two stereo minis and the sound quality is awesome.

Do you notice any decrease in sound quality going from two large HomePods to 2 minis?

Yes, the two large HomePods sounded better than two minis alone. The full sized HomePods sound awesome, and I'm sad Apple discontinued them. But adding the third full size HomePod to two stereo minis really helps bring the bass back - it's almost as good as two stereo HomePods. Of course this three HomePod setup doesn't work as system output from the computer, but it does still work with AirPlay.

No it honestly just works. You select your airplay pane and the speaker shows up like it would at home.

Iirc you may need to go into your homekit settings for that speaker and allow connections from anyone before you leave your home network. Additionally you can set a passcode so you don't wake up to Dre blasting in your hotel room at 2am because someone decides to troll you.

I can't access mine to verify here at work remotely to confirm my connection settings.

::EDIT::

IIRC when you take the HomePod away, it needs to be set to allow access to Everyone. You can then add the security password as described in this screenshot if you want to prevent just anyone from taking over your HomePod.

Thanks for this information. Do you know if you are able to use two as a stereo pair like this? I cant get mine to work like that, only independently.

I don't have a stereo pair of Minis, just regular HomePods. I have not tried to take them portable so not really sure it would work.

Your iPhone does these things for you.

I got an Orange Mini delivered yesterday. I love it.

We already have Echos and Google Homes all over the house, but I just needed a new toy.

So far I really like it. I am not an audiophile, so the sound quality is just fine with me. I already have some automation stuff in the house, but I might dabble a bit into some HomeKit stuff.

Have they made the HomePods "good" yet? I have a new home I'd like to smarten up, but have heard only that the HomePod system sorta isn't the best. I've love to stay in the ecosystem of Apple. Any current or past users please chime in with your opinion.

My wording was bad. I meant to have good sound with tv. I think it does music alone ok. But the stereo pair makes a difference with tv.
I use the one in the bedroom with the tv. However.... when i'm watching tv in there i don't care about immersion into a movie or tv show so much since i'm usually only watching something til i fall asleep! lol!

one thing i did notice with two different placements: when i had the mini on the dresser... past the tv (tv on one wall, dresser on the perpendicular wall) it really sounded like the sound was coming from the tv. i've since moved it to the bedside dresser next to my bed so i could play the volume lower... and it doesn't sound as good as when it was across the room from me.... so i'd say placement in the room definitely matters... especially if only using one!

we use 2 full size as a stereo pair in our home office/den with the tv and those sound great.

i thought that about the pink... but in reality... while i do have the pink computer.... i don't think i'd buy the pink mini unless i wanted to have them on my desk.... i wouldn't use the pink elsewhere in my home.

our major accent color in our home is blue... so it's perfect for us! i've already bought 2 to replace the black bedroom mini and the black bathroom mini. if the large HomePods die... i'll probably replace them with blue for the pop of color. i'd even consider the orange for the home office just for fun!
