Ram is a user-replaceable part, meaning it will not void your AppleCare. It's ridiculously simple to install ram. There should be documentation included with your computer that outlines the procedures to opening up your computer and installing ram.

there is, it's actually printed on the underside of the current generation imac's foot. just lay it down on the desk with the screen facing the desk surface (which you're already carefully placed a towel on, to avoid scratches) et voila.

i hope soon

hi everyone
hoping for a new iMac soon, I sold my G5 20" iMac yesterday for a pretty good price here in Tokyo.
I really loved it, but tended to be too slow from time to time.
Do you guys think a 4 core iMac is possible for this upcoming revision ?
Cheers
Arno

I am also hoping to buy a new 20" Imac soon. Patience isn't one of my strong points, but I'm not going to buy todays model as it's almost one year old technology. I'm kind of surprised Apple would let it go this long without a refresh.

I was at the apple store on Saturday made an appointment to talk about imacs- the imacs are still selling (I am sure the people that are buying now have no idea that they have not been updated since Sept.- I could understand a demand if there were a price decrease). The sales person (was cocky) and told me not to listen to rumor sites when I told him that an update has to be soon- "You never know" 'Buy now"... I mainly wanted to go to an apple store and see if anyone knew anything about an imac update- of course no one is talking and the sales person is interested in selling the current system.

Is it better to order online or go to an apple store??? I will buy a 24" (or bigger) as soon as there is an update.

i went to my local apple store recently, i thought i would be cheeky and ask when the new ones were coming, he said he was unable to comment on speculation.

regards new models though i honestly dont think they find out untill say 24 hrs before.

i agree though, they gotta be coming soon, im ordering on wed the 1st august come what may, whether it be a new imac, or a stripped down mac pro.

It would make no sense to pay top dollar for other than the latest and greatest technology. It's getting to the point that I think Apple isn't doing their customers any favors by continuing to sell the current model for the same price they were listed at almost a year ago. If they were discounted it would be another story.

a wise mac genius once told me that if you get many apple owners in the world to close their eyes, click their heels, and say three times "there is no one like jobs" that apple would release new products within 24 hours. if you also say three times "there is no one like ives" it causes that product to be redesigned.

this worked when my friends and i did this on june 28th. amazingly apple introduced a new product called the "iphone". i was like wow, "who would have ever guessed apple would do a cell phone."

i being super serial.

Better Be Good

PC kits with quad-core 2.4 CPUs are selling for $599 at some online retailers, so I hope APPL pays notice to that, and offers something at a not unreasonable price. The fact that they are ignoring their homeuser base is not sitting well with me. Their mobile gadgetry is cool, but the rest of their line is getting treated like a stepchild. BTW, the octocore has just been rated as being little faster than the Mac Pro stock config, so less bluster, and more substance for competitive prices, and less smug midget-geek advertising.

If you're measuring computer quality and value using this bullet point method, you're missing the point of Apple as a company completely.

so I hope APPL pays notice to that, and offers something at a not unreasonable price.

The next iMac redesign, whenever and however it comes out, will be priced within $100 of the current model. You can take that one to the bank, regardless of what you hope for. Apple is paying little to no notice to discount prices on budget computers.

The fact that they are ignoring their homeuser base is not sitting well with me.

That's unfortunate. Their sales are growing at a rate they can barely sustain with production, so they're probably not losing any sleep over it. I doubt that selling more cheaper computers is anywhere near the top of Apple's goal list.

Again, if you disagree with their direction, that's unfortunate, but all this "they better wake up or else...!" talk misses the fact of Apple's nearly unbelievable growth in the last few years.

I don't care much for gpu, cpu, ram or hdd updgrades in the new iMac. Just give me video inputs into that sweet 20" or 24" monitor. Seriously those iMac monitors go to waste, I'd love to have a component input and such but I guess that would eat into AppleTV sales. I can be hopeful I guess .

firstly, never said anywhere in my original post i have sold my computer, rather held of buying not on a rumor of an update but on the fact that the current imacs are over 10 months old now with no price drop, no updates.

i already have an ibook g4 but need one with a bit more power and cant really afford to wait any longer for hardware updates hence if im going to stick with apple i will have to pay top whack for outdated technology that is heavily rumoured for an update in the very near future.

How in gods name should i now it WAS 5 DAMN YEARS AGO!
