Can you imagine the computer that would "match" this keyboard? Some glass and metal monstrosity. This has to be a fake, or else Apple is two weeks away from releasing something something uglier than Fred Thompson's jowls.

Why would glass match that? It seems like it would already match the entire mac line (except the black macbook) very well. It's a white and aluminum keyboard. All apple's machines are white and aluminum. What am I missing here??

Same as the current MacBook and MacBook Pro keyboards, big centered letters.

Oups. My bad. You see, I don't have the chance to be the owner of a MB or MBP... :( ;)

But I'm pretty sure that's not the case on my iMac CoreDuo... (Although, I could be wrong here too since I'm not in front of it and most of the time, I try not to look at the keyboard while I type)

I thought Fred Thompson's jowls were sexy ... kind of like an old bulldog that needs to be euthanized ... Wait, is that wrong of me?

Geez, this thread grew several pages while I was reading it.:p

I'll just say I think it looks fugly. Not to say that I won't buy it, but I just don't like it....especially the removal of the Apple from the Command key. 'Apple' is much more simple and easy to identify. 'Command' sounds like some obscure reference to some PC keyboard. Plus, it is in the same place as a Windows key is, so newbies don't get as confused as when they see 'Command'.

I'll buy it just for the sake of buying it.....but I want that aluminum bottom painted white. Or black.

Really? Thanks for the clue-in  :p

Labeling and function don't always go hand-in hand ... Thanks for the proper terminology!

It's a matter of semantics. Each key "deletes".One deletes back and the other deletes forward. So they are both "delete" keys. That's why they are labeled "delete"..

The keyboard is visually nice looking. But the ergonomics are horrible, if I were to buy an iMac with that keyboard. I would probably buy a more ergonomic keyboard from logitech.

I totally agree... i can see how the look could grow on me after a while, what I really don't like is the MB style keys, I've used a MB a couple of times and find the keyboard just awful.

It reminds me of my old Spectrum.

I wish they released a keyboard with PB / MBP style keyboard. My absolute favorite keyboard to type on.

Similarities with AppleInsider article

Regardless of real vs. hoax, this keyboard sure sounds like what was described in an Apple Insider article back on July 9th.

Tapping the wizardry of industrial design chief Jonathan Ive and his team, the Cupertino-based Mac maker has reportedly crafted a super-slim external keyboard for the new Macs. It's said to draw upon the aesthetic and feel of the low-profile keyboard which was first integrated with the company's 13-inch MacBook portables in May of 2006.

On its website, Apple explains that MacBooks "features a unique keyboard design that sits flush against the bed for a sleeker, lower profile."

"You’ll also find a firm touch when typing," the company adds. "That ought to make your fingers happy."

This is the prettiest keyboard Apple has ever built. Simple, minimalist, beautiful.

Just gazing at this wondrous device is Zen-like. I am swept away as if on the notes of a song by Kitaro, my mind and ephemeral being one with the cosmos, my fingers slipping as if into the wetness of some huge and all-powerful universal soul. . . the synergy of Man and Machine waft into the heavens, and I, no longer the mere mortal flesh of humanity, float into realms of endless dreams.

Right. But, if it's all the same with the rest of you, I'll wait for Version 2.0.

My guess is that it's a prototype.

It looks like Apple is just toying with the arrangement of the F keys, but yes it's pretty weird to have F16-19. Hopefully that's not something that will be kept.

Also, why would they put a function key for expose and dashboard and then have the F key that its already assigned to in the OS different?

Its also pretty strange that there are the keys to dim/brighten the display...doesn't really seem necessary w/o a laptop.

Anyone notice how the command and option keys are mirrored on the left and right side of the keyboard?

Overall I like the design, and think its real, but I'm not expecting it to look exactly like this when it's actually released.

Then again, if it is real, where are the lawyers?

I recently upgraded from a MacBook to a MacBook Pro and I have to say the one thing I miss is the keyboard. The MacBook keyboard, while strange at first, is actually wonderful to type on. Cushioned, soft, quiet. The MBP keyboard I have sounds like it needs oiling sometimes!

I guess it's each to their own. :)

Think I might be with you on that one after my recent MBP SR LED experiences... ;)

After having a quick peruse through this thread it seems that a few people think this keyboard is gonna be backlit. Apologies if this is not the consensus - like I said - it was a quick peruse...

Can't see it though. I would love a backlit keyboard - especially wireless - but to be honest, this seems too thin to be backlit. What about the batteries, unless it's a rechargeable one that's built in?

also, all kinds of junk gets trapped underneath the MBP keyboard. I wonder how long until Apple redesigns the MBP to include the magnetic latch and the MacBook styled keyboard.

as far as backlighting on these keyboards, it is totally possible. The MacBook Pro keyboard assembly is actually very very thin, and the backlighting utilized there can easily be implemented in the keyboard that is the topic of this discussion. Also, I would think USB will be able to power the backlight, so that's not an issue. The problem lies in where the light detection sensor will be located. In the MacBook Pro/PowerBook, it's underneath the speaker grills. There's no place to put it in this keyboard. Also, there is no backlight control keys on the keyboard itself (it exists on MBP). Maybe if it is implemented, it will be done through a software interface? doubt it though.

The current Apple keyboard has 2 delete keys : One below the help key and one next to the += key :

Wow, I have been out of it.

Hope they remove it; it's confusing.

you might already know this, but just to clarify for others. the two delete keys are different. one is a forward delete, and the other is a backward delete.

The faithful are starved for Mac news.

This thread is proof that we are all starved for Mac news in this seemingly iPhone=Apple world.

A thread about a keyboard goes to 17+ pages, wow, come on already Apple, we are ready for a massive dose of Mac hardware updates, product transitions, and new model introductions!

edit: On a different note, I have not seen a new "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ad in a while. Has Apple dropped the campaign? Have they announced that they have made the last such commercial? It's been iPhone for so long, I kinda miss those ads.

No!

"Flower Key" forever!!! :D:D:D:D

Where is all this "flower key" stuff coming from???

I've never seen a flower that looks ANYTHING like that command-key doodle.

It looks more like a square with 4 party balloons tied to the corners.

(Edit: Or maybe a turtle with it's head retracted. You could call it a "turtle key" and be just as likely for people to know which one you mean.)
