the usb port is hidden under the keyboard 2 inches in... you can see that in your second pic I think. where the back rubber feet are attached to that flat rectangular piece. the 1st pic is taken from an angle that makes it appear that the usb is right out of the side... not really a good angle.

But under the keyboard? Actually UNDER the keyboard? Can't see it happening myself. Especially given the angle. Some people would probably end up needing to use a USB extension cable for things like USB drives. Can't see a USB drive slotting nicely into that port. What about the old shuffle?

Also, 2 inches???!!! This don't look like 2 inches to me. I'd say it doesn't even look like 1 inch!

GREAT keyboard! If that's the real thing, I'm picking one up on day one. I absolutely love the MacBook keys; easier on the fingers and easy to wipe clean. Now if only the USB-ports are 2.0....

I'm with you on recommending a third-party mouse (though the mighty mouse does permit right-click now), but I'm not sure I would expect many more third-party keyboards by xmas.

Do you really expect a bigger response to this keyboard than the response to Apples introduction of the no-keyboard-in-the-box Mac Mini?

That would depend: The experienced Mac user will not care as long as it is apparent that they getting a discount on the lack of a KB&Mouse. The Switchers coming from the PC world or someone that is learning the difference between a single click and a double click will scream and gripe about it.

The prices of the stand alone Mac KB&Mouse can confuse most PC people that are expecting a computer to come in the box, for the price they paid. But when you go to a computer store that carries Mac stuff like MacMall or Small Dog then I would expect to see the choices of third party Keyboards grow, a lot. In the end, by Christmas, the third party market will have grown to 5 times the size & choices to get a KB that is 10 times better for half the price.

As to the iMac mini, it was a joke to start off with, like the cube. If you look at the prices of the full iMac the Mini (at today’s prices) will cost you about $1200 for the basic model with a KB&Mouse and Apple’s 20 inch screen. Or you can get the 20inch iMac for $1500 and get a iSight, speakers, and microphone with it, along with twice the benchmarks for roughly a 10% price difference. If the Mini was sold as is for $250 than it would of sold like hot cakes and be worth the trouble. This will also result in Apple gaining a significant market share. Most Mac power users I know chuckled at the Mini when it first came out due to its price. In the end it was the most expensive Mac made, compared to the abilities of a full iMac. ((Computer Price) Divided by (Bench Mark)) than factor in other specs like Drive size, Ect

Here the usb slot is about am an inch in but here it looks flush.

It's an amazingly good fake though if it is.

Also Spaces on the f3 and the dodgy apple logo on sticker the make me say... FAKE!

Anyone notice the "Clear" button instead of Number Lock too.

hhhmmm....

i dunno. i think too many buttons have been repositioned to be real. plus anyone notice the apple logo usually on the option key would now be gone...

You did not get it. A power button to turn ON the Mac. Not to turn it off.

I doubt its Power, why have a power button on the keyboard of a Desktop?

It is the only feature that I want from an Apple Keyboard. Why? Because I cannot access the Mac power button, since it is hidden below the table!

Wasn't iBook keyboard identical to the PowerBook/MBP except that the keys were plastic instead of aluminum (were those keys aluminum, I was never entirely sure) ?

The iBook keyboard was based on the Titanium Powerbook -- the one where you pulled the keyboard up to get at the RAM. Those keyboards would flex when you typed after a few months of use. They were crappy. The Aluminum Powerbook and the Macbook Pro have solid keyboards that aren't removable.

I think those keys are actually aluminum, but I'm not really sure. Maybe they're plastic.

Thin doesn't equal comfort

There was a brief moment in Apple history when it was concerned with ergonomics. Of late it appears cool=thin. I'd much rather type on a curved keyboard like Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave (Mac/Windows) or the Cordless Air Mouse (Windows only) than Apple's sliver of aluminum. :(

Pushing ANY button on a Mac (keyboard or mouse) will turn it on. Because sleep is the normal daily procedure now, not a full shutdown.

This isn't curved, which would be more ergonomic (though I'd hate it curved myself). But it is at least more ergonomic than the the old keyboard: it has the keys nearly at desk level, which means your desk itself serves as a wrist rest instead of needing a bulky shelf attached.

Click here. Take a good look at this picture.

Ok, if it's real then it's seriously flawed. Check out the rubber feet. Does anyone honestly think that this keyboard is gonna sit sturdy on your desk without the bottom part of the keyboard scraping the desk and/or moving about? The angle the keyboard would sit at simply doesn't permit all four feet to be touching the desk at once. FAKE!

Also, where's the usb port gone? Click here. You would expect to see just a little bit of it surely. If not, then the port actually sits UNDER then keyboard. Yeah right. FAKE!

And whilst on the subject of the USB port. Really, I would have expected to see the port at least slightly showing on this picture too at least if the first picture in this post is anything to go by. But wait I forgot, the port is UNDER the keyboard... Nah, it's a FAKE!

I think I have proven CATEGORICALLY that this keyboard is a FAKE!!!

No, you have catagorically proved that perspective flummoxes you. Take an eye test! :D:D:D

This keyboard is most likely the real thing. But I would expect that Steve Jobs had something like 4 to 15 models on his desk to look at. That does not say that this is the one that is going to be produced or if the production model will match the Development teams Prototype at all.

I’m guessing that this is a picture of a Keyboard that was made by the Development team and what we get in a few weeks may look a lot like it but not exactly.

And you have proven CATEGORICALLY, that you cannot spell. I thank you, and goodnight. :p
:D

Seriously though. My perspective is top notch.

Highlight of my day.

Besides, why would you want to plug a usb drive into the keyboard (probably usb 1.1)? Its made to plug a mouse into and thats about it.

I'm guessing that these pictures were made by a person(s) with way too much time to kill.

FAKE! (for good measure) ;)

Erm... Because it's a hell of a lot easier than plugging it into the back of your iMac. How did you come up with this then? USB 1.1 ;)

PS. Why would you want to use a wired mouse?

Create a list of everything wrong with the keyboard:

-Help key missing
-Volume buttons are in wrong order (Mute should be after Volume Up)
-Number '5' key on the right is missing a nipple for fast 10-key entry
-Eject key at wrong location
-Picture of side view shows keys are not at a uniform height (loose or flimsy?)

Looks nice, but I am so glad I won't have to use it. I dont like the MacBook keyboard very much.I always hit the wrong keys

Yes OMGZ fake!!11111111 one one one eleven! :sarcasm:

You aren't very observant. 1, the USB port is hidden back quite a bit from the edge. My guess is they don't want you to see the dongle sticking out like the previous keyboard.

2, they've hidden the USB connection or rather made it seemless into the design so its also part of the stand

3, of course you wont see it at that engle, the port is too far away to see it at the edge in that angle. The port is probably in line with the second row of keys.

Yeah its all fake!!1 :sarcasm:

What he said.

Only one positive thing I can say about this. Its no longer a crumb/hair/skin/snot collector unless someone has already said it on the so many pages. Unlike the previous that sits in a clear plastic base tub.
I don't like the overall look because it makes the build quality look cheap or the illusion of it. Its somewhat kid like.

Pure laziness. ;)

Back to the future - Apple Keyboard from the '80s

Well, everything old is new again. It's certainly an update but the key style reminds me of Apple IIc keyboards. The flat style reminds me of like a TRS 80 MC 10 from Radio Shack. http://www.trs-80.com/ Hopefully this will be better to type on. Okay, okay - I worry a little. It's not like the Apple mouse has put ergonomics over design. Still lobbying for the return of the scissor key feel of the incredible Mac II keyboards.

Could they build an additional structure into the rear strip to house the batteries. Seems possible.

They could use flat, rechargeable batteries (like in the Nano). So you would just plug your keyboard into the USB port every once in awhile to recharge it. Really, wireless keyboards seem kinda silly to me. How often does one move their keyboard while using it?

I'm really getting sick of the white keyboards. Anyone will tell you that the black keyboards look great with the G5 towers. We have black Macbooks, how hard it is to bring back black keyboards.

Hidden back quite a bit from the edge? When you take a look at the picture of the bottom of the keyboard, it's not actually that far in from the edge. So each time you connect a USB device you're going UNDER the keyboard? That means you'll most likely be picking the keyboard up each time you connect a device, unless you've got really skinny fingers! ;) Have you got real skinny fingers? ;)

Still can't see how you surmise that the port is "too far away" from the edge based on this pic. An inch at most. Actually when you look real close, the "stand" where the USB port is, is not even in the middle. A minor point maybe.

Pure laziness. ;)
I'll give you that one.

But, what do you think about the angle of the keyboard and the probability of all four rubber feet touching the desk at the same time? I don't see that happening from the pictures posted.

How did I come up with usb 1.1? There simply aren't a whole lot of usb 2 keyboards.

Are we talking about the same thing here? I'm talking about the USB hub/dock on the keyboard, not the USB keyboard cable itself. Remember, we're talking about a keyboard that isn't actually here yet. Whilst there may not be that many USB 2.0 keyboards around at the moment, the rumored apple keyboard may have a USB 2.0 hub/dock. A bit like this one.
