that was the first rumour on april...but in may already was for sure that only MBA haswell will be released and later rMBP. So with more than a month we already know that fact. Now we are less than 2 weeks...and all the signs are for the refresh ..event will be focus on MAC and iPad

Most people don't cross-shop iMac's and MBP's

I agree, but strangely enough I'm in the same dilemma. My preferred 21" iMac has a big screen, plenty of screen space to work in, decent amount of connectors (USB), 1/3 cheaper than a MBP.
While on the other hand the 15" MBP has portability... but smaller display, less screenspace, ridiculously few connectors, quite expensive.

I am used to notebooks for years e.g. using in trains, or moving it outside on a bench, or laying in the couch surfing in the web on the MBP - but the thing I miss most is a larger screenspace. A higher resolution (Retina) does not solve this problem adequately, because then fonts are simply too small. 16,4"-17" would be optimal. Unfortunately such sizes don't exist anymore in Apple world.

So the same here... it's not that I use this portability so much, but maybe I will miss it hard time, once the portability is completely gone.

Sounds like one of the best compromises. I wanted to say "B-b-but the connectors?" but I've just seen the Thunderbolt display offers additional connectors. And then I looked for sound and read "integrated subwoofer". Definitely enough to satisfy the needs.

Macbook pro = More expensive, slower, less workspace, portable, retina screen
iMac = faster, cheaper, more workspace / bigger screen.

So it all boils down to how much do you value portability and the retina display.

depends...27" imac is more expansive than 13" rMBp and based on your BTO even like 15"

Sorry, I should have said, besides hope and prayer, there has been no signs that it will be introduced on the 22nd. ;)

They could stealthily release them on 15th. The iMac update was completely out of nowhere, so I wont be surprised.

As fo OP:

If you really cant decide whether you need a laptop or not, wait for new MBPs to get the whole picture.
I know this dilemma (iMac vs laptop) doesnt make sense for some, but it is an issue many people have faced. Its up to your preference, really. If you, like me, like to work (or play) at a desk, iMac is preferable, but some people hate desks and rather be on the bed, couch or whatever, then MBP is obvious.

However, if you (like me) happen to also need to take computer with you (be it work or education), having 2 comps is ideal, but could be more money then you ware willing to spend. In this case, getting a smaller laptop and an external screen (not necessarily Thunder bolt display) might be better.

When you are undecided between them...like me, maybe the best solution is to buy them both..when you want to work, game etc imac is better and when you travel MBP is better, so in any situation you will be covered
