32 inch would have been such a breath of fresh air. But I guess the fear of cannibalizing other product lines is now a thing at Apple. Selling performance these days is a tough cookie when the latest version is just a spec bump and doesn’t look any different from the models it replaces.

Look at the M2 Pro/Max versus the M1. I think this is gonna have some impact on upgrade decisions.
Yes, we all remember the time when apple would change the design of their Macs every year 🙄 don't be dramatic. The new M2 laptops refresh either changed the design (MacBook Air) or kept a design that was just introduced (MBP 14"/16"). This is completely in line with what they've been doing for at least the last two decades.

I wonder if it'll get the Pro version of the M series chip. I miss my M1 iMac. It was the best looking Mac I've owned and the screen was outstanding!... That screen ruined me 🤣
I honestly think iMac is way better looking than the tin box Mac Studio + External Display. I prefer all in one desktop experience.

Full screen estate or still with that gigantic notch at bottom that looks so 1990?

I definitely see where you're coming from, but I find the Studio Display to be the only monitor I've ever used that gives any computer an all-in-one feel. It comes on instantly with the rest of the computer, and has no input seeking or GUI elements obscuring the picture, no jank. Only flaw is the camera.

Still, for the sake of choice, I hope they bring back the 27" (or a 32") some day. Considering their current money squeezing though... Probably not.

I would seriously doubt that it'll be an iMac Pro. That would mean Apple would have to admit they misjudged the market. Well unless it's a >24" screen. I was surprised how many people would like/love a 32" iMac Pro idea. It. Would. Be. HUGE... And likely sell well too. How many use external/additional monitors, and how many that do that go 'big', rather than same size or smaller. Apple could really hit a sweat spot, and pent up demand for something larger.

Stay tuned. Anything can happen at this point. T'would be somewhat disappointing if it's just a faster version of the current shipping one. 🤷🏻‍♂️

A flagship 32" iMac would be amazing! Where’s the bigger model? 27” or even 32”? We need a bigger iMac 🖥️
A 32” display would need to use a 6K panel to maintain proper Retina resolution and scaling. Such panels are still somewhat exotic and expensive, and would make it difficult for Apple to keep the costs down - think starting cost of $3000. That might be a tough sell compared to a Mac Studio paired with a high quality display of the user’s choosing.

Apple’s desktop offerings are in an interesting spot. In the Intel era you had a gap in headless offerings with the underpowered Mac mini and the overpowered Mac Pro; users who wanted beefier K-series Intel chips and discrete graphics had no choice but to go into a 27” iMac whether they needed a new display or not. Now it’s the opposite- the mini and Studio provide plentiful choices from low end to professional level, whereas the iMac occupies the low end. While I get the appeal of an all-in-one I can’t help but feel like a mini/Studio + high quality display is better for users in the long run as displays needn’t be discarded between computer upgrades.

Was waiting forever for a new 27" iMac and finally gave up and bought the Mac Mini & Studio Display as soon as they came out with a semi-pro Mini with support for multiple monitors. I'm quite happy with it. Anyone waiting on a 27" iMac should just get the Studio Display and M2 Mini now. After having to part with a perfectly good display on my iMac 5K just to get a new computer I'm glad I was forced to give up the all in one design. Likely will not need an upgrade for another decade, but nice to know I can upgrade the computer or monitor separately if need be.

I agree about the Mac Studio, but with the M2 Mini Pro + Studio Display you have a very powerful computer with a minimalistic look for about the price you'd expect to pay for an updated iMac 27" and you can mount it under your desk if you really don't want to see a computer.

Why would you all love so much to buy a big wonderful and relatively expensive screen that's stuck forever with the same computer, (an entry level computer!), and can't be used with anything else?

What they want is a 32 inch iMac with Pro/Max chips, 32gb ram, 2 TB storage, keyboard and trackpad for $2,499… when Apple would charge $2,499 for such a display by itself

I told you. Apple is the new Microsoft. Can’t innovate so they just upgrade the processor and everyone gets excited.

I still haven’t seen anyone with this iMac. No where. I’d love to see the units sold data.

I’ve needed an iMac for 6 years. I waited for the new iMac 27” but we got this crayon instead. I still didn’t get an iMac. I just bought a bigger monitor and connected my MacBook Pro to it.

We all know when they release the larger iMac it’ll be so over priced that I won’t get it then either. Cook has made it so unpleasant for customers to just get a damn computer they want and need.

Scenario: Apple introduces 5K 27 or 32 in. iMac with Pro chips, greeted by many cheers then immediately followed by countless heads exploding and howls of rage over the price.
Those pastel glossy chins look terrible..
Some of them do. Still the chin would look better with the same metallic tone as the pedestal. Reinstating the Apple logo on the chin would be welcome as well.
27" or above, or no deal. 24" ist a toysize.
No, it’s not. Lots of people buy 24in. displays.
Sounds like it's just going to be an M2 refresh. 🥱
Nope. It’s long been asserted it will be an M3.
It seems like Apple sells everything *except* what I really want to buy.
I’ve had that feeling.
What's to "develop"? If everything is the same except the SoC, it's just a refresh. What's "advanced" about that?
It’s possible other features could be added.

People complain about lack of innovation. Innovation doesn’t work on an assembly line basis. It comes about by inspiration and hit-and-miss trial-and-error. Sometimes innovation comes along before the technology is sufficiently mature for it. Sometimes what appears to be innovation falls flat on its face.

The guy who invented television came about it by inspiration followed by years of effort to make it work. Smart people before him had toiled for years without success and never conceived of the idea needed to make it work. Yet despite his success and owning the patent he never made any money off it because RCA blocked him until they could come up with their own working model, which took them several years and the equivalent of millions of today’s dollars to do it. In the end RCA still had to use the original inventor’s patent, but they got it for free because the original patent had finally run out.

The takeaway is you can spend lots of money over many years on research and development and still not get what you want. And sometimes you just get lucky. Thats how real innovation works.

Doing some math with the Mini and the Studio, a 24" iMac with an M2 Pro would cost about $2000, one with a Max would be $2800. The sole 24" display cost makes $600/700.
I believe the better the display, the more I'd be sorry when I won't just be able to buy an M9 Pro Mac Mini and plug it in. Or when something fails with the motherboard, and I'd have to choose between overpaying repair costs for a very old Mac or throw away a great display too (ask anybody with an old 27" iMac...).
There's value in those displays but you have to consider both this and the fact that most buyers would just go for a cheaper display otherwise.
To me, until Mac Minis stay this good, configurable and cheap, they're the best choice, paired with a third party display among a huge variety.

yup. I have come to terms with it.

my new setup is going to be 15” MBA or 14” MBP and a Studio Display.

I’m hoping they come out with a display that’s larger than 27”, but we’ll see.

The 14" MBPs are some of the best computers Apple has ever made. The ASD is good. You can upgrade either component as necessary. And the 14" MBP is portable.

Why is this a downgrade for a power user versus a 27" iMac?

I have an MBA and a 24" iMac - I like this solution, and it costs me pretty much the same as a MacBook Air and Apple Studio Display (I don't really need the extra three inches).

Yup. A minimally-bezeled 32" iMac would be only slightly larger in form factor than the 27" iMac. Seems like a no brainer. A 27" display isn't "big" like it used to be.
