How does the new iMac with quad core i7 processor compare to a quad core MP if both have the same RAM?

Pretty sure we're still waiting on benchmark results for the 2011 i7 iMac, but the 2010 i7 iMac already had a faster processor than the 2010 base model Mac Pro.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in theory, in terms of raw processor power, we've got the 2.8Ghz base model Mac Pro with 4 cores. That's ~11.2Ghz

iMac is 3.4Ghz with 4 cores, so 13.6 x + ~15% for next gen processor, so about 40% faster than the base Mac Pro from 2010?

That would be assuming that graphics cards, memory, and HDD factors are irrelevant, of course.

there have been geekbench scores of
    12700 for the new imac
the base 2.8 mp pro is 9700.

there is more to the picture then those scores. it depends on what you want to do and how you want to mod them. a 400 mod to a 2.8 mac pro and the score goes to 15300

imac will never be able to get that score.

People are claiming 12000+ on Geekbench. That's all we got right now for tests but does not take into account anything other than Memory bandwidth and raw processor. It is supposed to keep pace with the 6-core @3.33GHz. But it appears to be slightly slower as the 3.33 gets 14000+. It is really fast but there are other considerations to be made. The new Mac Pro's will be faster still when they are released. And the 3d chip Ivy Bridge even more so and on and on. Wish the tech world could teach auto manufactures what it's like to innovate:)
