Just looking forward to news, timing, etc. of new iMac. Understand there will a different screen size and the M1 chip.

Maybe you already had a look here, but if not you have 9,700 posts to read: :)
I know, a bit overwhelming:

Here is a less overwhelming thread.

Release: Seemingly imminent due to discontinued configs and new model identifiers found in beta code. Possibly at an event this month.

Design: Reduced bezels, similar to Pro Display XDR. Flat edges and back. Maybe some extra color choices a la iPad Air. 23-24” for the smaller model, 27-32” for the larger model. Smaller model may be released before the larger one.

Processor: Apple Silicon M1X. Similar architecture to M1 with more performance cores. Expect this to be incredible.

I will be disappointed if the new iMac comes with a 31.5" 16:9 display. The current 27" display is already tall enough, but it often feels too narrow. A 34" 21:9 display would have the same screen real estate in a better form factor.

The CPU/GPU specs sound like lower-end models. A quick back-of-the-envelope calculation suggests that Apple would need 32 cores to beat the 5700 XT with a comfortable margin. And 8 performance cores is not that much for virtualization.

See I want the opposite, I prefer a slightly narrow display but taller, like the old ratio 16:10 or even more.

Either way though I can't wait for the redesigned larger iMac. Instant buy.

Same here. I would love more height for document writing and coding. Another use where I need more vertical space, but have plenty horizontally is websites. Mac Rumors for example, I never have to scroll horizontally (Safari isn't even set up for the full width of my iMac screen), but I have to scroll a lot vertically. More vertical space would help in art packages so I have a squarer workspace.

16:10 would be great (you can see the difference it makes on laptops, including all Apple laptops), but 3:2 would be even better, as seen on Microsoft Surface laptops and Studio (their iMac equivalent). Expanding vertically also gives more workspace without more desktop footprint, unlike ultrawides.

Ahahahaha! Yes! Yes!! YES!!! :D:D:D

I don't want to have to deal with black bars when watching media. 16:9 is the king when it comes to no black bars.

I wonder what resolution they would be.
I have not heard of a 5K 31.5” miniLED panel by Lg.Display.
Whereas there’s a 31.5” 4K miniLED monitor coming from Dell. (based on an Lg.Display panel)

What if these iMac Air models are both 4K.
And then later we’ll see a 32” 6K iMac Pro with a beefier M2Z CPU.
M1X by the look of it is merely twice as powerful as an M1, both on the CPU and GPU fronts.

Surely a 31.5” display is likely to be 6k, like the 32” XDR?

I just took a tape measure to my 27" iMac - if the bezels are completely eliminated then the same width x height results in 30.5" corner-to-corner. Thinking about it that way, a 31.5" display sounds reasonable since it would be only slightly larger than the current 27" iMac even with minimal bezel width taken into account. An inch wider and taller perhaps?

And I will be surprised if the resolution is not 6K. After all, the 27" iMac has been 5K for at least 6+ years (my late 2014 iMac is 27" 5K). I'm not sure how much real difference it will make, but it would be unlike Apple to not use this next iMac upgrade to take the next step in screen resolution, along with the new small bezel design, M1 chip, etc.

I wouldn't read too much into this so-called 'leaker'. No new information, the time of release is written in a way that leaves a lot of room (for "being-right"). If I was writing fake leaks that's how I'd do it anyway... hopefully still happening at the supposed spring event / product launch

Yes, hopefully during April. That's all I ask for. 🤞
