Assuming you have Mountain Lion installed...

Rice fields in China, most likely in area of Guilin.

Thanks!
I'm not on Mountain Lion (yet) — but a google on the filename did the trick.
And Guilin / China looks likely ( http://bit.ly/Tj2rrN ). What a beautiful place.
Once again, Mucho gracias.

The screen assembly is supposed to be better than the previous one, and probably costs significantly more to make. That may account for the price increase. I am looking forward to seeing it in person.

I don't mean it is better just because it is thinner. Getting rid of the air gap and the new anti-reflective coating should lead to an improvement in the viewing quality.

Did you consider the improved screen before you complained about the "lesser components"?

Stop talking rubbish, there is NO improved screen, Just that the screen is now closer due to thinner glass. Yes text my look better, Last time I checked Apple wasn't talking about a revolutionary screen but saying how thin it is. Please get your facts right.

Old 21.5 base had 7200rpm HD this new one has 5400rpm hd, = lesser component and price increase, No optical drive and price increase, with such a nice computer one would likely stick to apple, thats price increase of £99 plus Apple external for £65 all for lesser components but more money.

You can stay blind or be ignorant, thats your prerogative.

Had an email this afternoon....Now to buy the two I've specced up for buddies and see how that Fusion drive works out. It's going to effect my own upgrade next year..another 27" iMac with Fusion, or a Pro ( if they ever do update it that is) The certainly cut this fine the last day of November.

Too expensive for the casual user, too appliance-like & limited for many professionals.

Sad times...

lol WTF?
These iMacs are seriously capable machines unless you happen to need a render farm for a major motion picture?

For you mum - I suggest an iPad if all she wants to do is email and surf the web.

At this rate, it almost looks like theyre not going to do anything at all and just kill off the Mac Pro and put all their efforts into iToys and other mainstream garbage.

Elitism is at finest. You armchair engineers and CEOs make me laugh.

I applaude Apple for pushing the boundaries and making desktops smaller and smaller. Making it thin at the edges on a desktop may seem useless, but it's one step closer to maybe making an entire computer on a sheet of glass. Maybe the tech will someday find its way to an ipad that we can roll up.
Why make flat panel tvs over those big box rear projection TVs when most people put it on a stand and takes up the same footprint anyways? It's called progress. While I think it's better have user upgradeable RAM and HD, overall, the design is for the better.

Uk buyer here.
Just wondered if anyone knows how short supply the 21.5" will be come Friday? Like how realistic will it be to snap one up?

Apple rep just told me to call his extension to secure a phone purchase on that day, but I imagine even this method will present loooong waiting issues.

I am tempted to wait till January so that I can approach it more.....calmly :D

The fact that Apple waited until the last possible day in November only reinforces my belief that this model is "not ready for prime time". They just wanted to shove this new model out the door to not make the new CEO look like a liar. Good luck to all who are buying rev. A.

Well, at least we'll be able to get a feeling soon for -

a) what exactly the bootcamp problem with 3TB Fusion Drives *is*.

and

b) How much upgrades will cost for the 27 inch.

I believe it's the BIOS emulation. They should just get the EFI thingy, this is 2012. I helped a friend install Windows 8 onto his computer using EFI instead of BIOS. Worked perfectly except for sound, which n driver could seem to make it work (the same driver made it work when we installed it through BIOS later).

I don't think this has been posted, but...

are we looking at a future update of OS X? In this image the Menu Bar is all black and the Dock stretches all black across the screen. Also, no HDD icon on the desktop.

Interesting!

Hopefully the 21.5 will let everyone know how succesful or unsuccesful the new iMacs will be. I just hate to waste money if this new iMac is going to have issues ... my main worry is the heat over time

I dont think people are not liking the looks as much as I think people are disappointed that Apple has the mindset that making it "look" thinner is more important than making it upgradeable and keeping features that folks needs.

Based on your opinion. But you don't speak for everyone and certainly not the consumer that is Apple's focus, especially with the iMac. Those consumers, who are a good 95% if not more, of the market don't need a machine they can tweak or upgrade themselves. Rarely do they even need 8 GB of RAM but Apple is giving that. They don't all burn DVDs in mass and the tiny bit that do will have no issue with buying an external drive. And so on.

If you feel otherwise for your needs don't get an iMac, or don't get an Mac at all if that is how you feel. There will be plenty of that 95% that will buy and make up for your 'lost' sale

They are all repairable at Apple Prices :D Just like the MBP 13 Retina, if you can afford a ridiculously priced 13 notebook at $1700-$2000, you should be able to afford $1200 to replace the logic board in a couple years when the memory ($20-$30 item) fails.

Or better yet, afford the $349 for Apple Care so that replacement is covered.

Waiting until Jan 2014 to upgrade to one of these, one reason, to save up so i can buy the overpriced max-spec version because apple has taken away the ability to upgrade the ram in the 21.5inch and the other reason is to wait and see what fails in these models over the coming year and pick up a 2nd gen when they fix the screen/drive/overheating graphics chip issues.

Given he could always buy the new version in the future, but could not use it in the past, what's to be remorseful about?

Actually what I don't get is why there isn't an Apple display that has a comparable resolution to my rMPB, or 2880-by-1800. What's the dealio?

Basically, why would I downgrade my laptop experience on a desktop?

That's just iphoto...

Edit: Somebody beat me to it! :)

When the French company said the product was having problems and would be delayed there were tons of posts on the sky falling, Apple failing blah blah blah.

Now there are a pile of posts bagging the machine before it arrive. Too funny.

There are posts that there will be supply issues. Hello! There are always supply issues with Apple products. They can never meet demand early on with any product they sell. That's the result of making great products.

Either people are becoming more negative in their outlook or their is an underlying anti Apple campaign being run. Conspiracy theorists might imagine a Samsung funded programme to post on Apple forums. :)

What I know about Apple is;

A/ They deliver good quality products. Very good quality products that just work.

B/ If they get it wrong it usually gets fixed.

C/ I only left PC's 3 years ago and my experience there was lower quality products, and hard to get someone to own up for warranty work.

Having been an Apple customer for 3 years I can't see a single reason to go back to the PC side or a reason to join the "Sky is Falling... Apple is Failing" Brigade. Life with Apple is good!

you call progress a thinner computer

I call progress a faster, more powerful computer with legitimate cooling.

I agree with those waiting for a 2nd gen in the case of overheating or other design issues. Heat is enemy #1 if you are doing anything remotely demanding on a machine that stresses form factor over everything else.

Browsing the web and email will be fine, but you don't need an iMac for that.
