Apple just posted the video of the iMac event today.

After watching it, it seemed real weird to me that there was no applause when the iMac was revealed. It seemed like Steve was rushing the whole thing as well... he wasn't as "salesman-y" as he usually is. Almost like he was phoning (iphoning?) it in...

Also, Steve oddly spent more time talking about the new iPhoto features (nothing earth shattering) than he did showing the new iMac.

The more I look at them - I just don't know. I sold my iMac (24") yesterday for $1500, and now I'm stuck on what to buy. I could go for the 2.8GHz 24" (though it's a bit more than I wanted to spend), possibly go for an MBP with the better vid card... I suppose I'll spend some time in the Apple store tomorow afternoon. The new design is pretty in some ways, but in others I don't like it. Argh... I really wish Apple would've put out something that simply wowed me. Alas.

Can anyone that has made the purchase (or seen first hand) confirm that adding RAM is easy to do?

Just watched the video from today's presentation...looks very easy. Will be picking up my first mac tomorrow. I'm soooooo excited! :D

Maybe The Steve was just bummed that the Quad-Core Kentsfield Mini-Tower Home Theatre PC that they'd meant to launch won't be ready for another 4 weeks....

Just a quick thank you ( from a newbie and a long time lurker) for a month of great reading! I learned a lot from all of you! In fact, enough to know what to buy on this day of the new Imac. As I write, I'm using my new 24" Imac. I bought it from an Apple store this morning. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! I really love the keyboard.

From the last 10 years of windows.... I feel like I'm home again! It's good to be back on the Mac!

Again Thanks!!!!!!:D

Hmmm. Well I really wanted to be wowed, but I guess I just wasn't. It is cool that the case is aluminum, but to be honest, from a distance like in the picture of Steve on stage with them, it looked like he was working on an HP monitor like the ones we have at work- brushed metal and black.

And then I started looking on some forum sites and googling hardware review sites about these video cards, and most sites do seem to rate both the video cards in these new imacs as lower than the video cards in the old imacs. And that really has me scratching my head, why in the world would Apple do that? Especially when the video cards in the old imacs were widely seen as a weakness already.

This whole thing is just seeming kind of rushed and half-baked. It really has a white power cord that plugs into the black case? I don't know, it's almost as if this is just an interim model, and not really how Apple ultimately wants this computer to be. I think maybe I will stick with my white one for now, at least until Leopard comes out, and see what's going on with these around the holidays. It kinda seems like maybe they wanted to rush these out the door before Leopard, so it wouldn't distract from the Leopard launch or something. I think they're trying to meet too many deadlines.

this is the apple i have been waiting for. just finished setting up my desk with my new 24, 2.4ghz. lovely. simply lovely. best purchase ever.

will be adding ram in the next month. (1gb??? come on!)

my wrist watch has more than that.

Oh my goodness. Just tuned in and seen the new iMac. No longer will the iMac sitting in the little Apple section in the corner stand out from the rest. Now it'll blend right in with all the others. Bugly.

I didn't really like the new iMac till i thought about something. I think that Leopard will really look nice on this machine, with all the reflections and glass effects.

Wow.. you sold your iMac for $1500. Did the person who bought it know that they were being updated today?

For me, the number one reason to get this machine isn't the specs or the new design, although both are an iPhoto finish for second.

The number one reason for me is that this machine ships with Tiger. If the usual design convention holds, no Mac can install (at least by normal means) an OS version less than the one that shipped with it. For the first time ever (and barring a design miracle in the very near future) it's looking like I will pass on Apple's latest release of OS X. Maybe when it's out in the wild features will come to light that are just too compelling to pass up, but right now Leopard is far from the usual slam-dunk upgrade, at least in my book.

So I get a fantastic machine and I get the option to pass on Leopard in October if I want. Sweet!

The new design is very disappointing. It seems like they are trying to make the new iMac too many things at once. Silver and black to mimic the iPhone and Mac Pro, white keys and white mouse to mimic old iMac and iPod, and black border around the minitor to mimic HD televisions. Yuck!

I personally loved their previous design much better. The whole thing matched and was cohesive. You had a white body, with white keyboard and mouse and white cables. Clean and simple.

You know how everyone copies Apple's designs? Well, we won't have to worry about them copying this one ;)

Also, alot of people in the forum are talking about HD support with the new videocard, but Apple forgot one thing, the new iMac still has no Blu Ray! How can you watch HD movies on this thing? Even the iTunes store doesn't even have HD content to download.

I guess I'll have to wait another 330 days or so till they bring out a newer revised iMac with a better and more cohesive design, and Blu Ray.

Anyone find stock at a local store today? I can't get mine to answer the darn phone.

I walked over to our local store today and I asked when they would have the new iMacs on display. Their response was they plan to put them out on Thursday but if you really wanted to buy one that they had a few in back. So retails stores did have them at 6pm today.

I was tempted but I am holding out for Leopard....

BTW this was the Bayshore store in Milwaukee.

It looks beautiful, but I can't stand that glossy screen. The reflections are awful. Check out the Engadget photos for a good look at this horror.

My new iMac is flawless, the screen is really fantastic!

Do you really have one already or is this a photoshop?

Can you turn off the screen without sending the iMac to sleep?

IMO this is the biggest drawback with my current iMac - even if I put the screen to sleep if an automated task starts, like my ElGato EyeTV recording a show at 3am, it will wake the screen and light up the entire bedroom.

I want the iMac to continue to run without the screen on.

No photoshop here.

As far as the screen, if your mac wakes up for a recording, it will turn on the screen.

You can always buy one of those covers from radtech to block the light.
