I believe it's the mobile C2E, and the FSB is not faster. Two great reasons to spend your money on ram / HDD space and not a processor upgradeIs the 2.8ghz much faster than the 2.4ghz?

is it the wireless keyboard that's hanging it up? sorry, didn't read all 1000 posts to sift through, if someone could enlighten us, that would be great![]()
Yupis it the wireless keyboard that's hanging it up?
i am very disappointed. i just purchased an i mac. around one month before the new ones came out. i am an idiot![]()
Ok I have had my 24" 2.8Ghz for just about one week and I have to say it is probably the best computer I have ever owned. I have a Powerbook G4 1.67ghz and I used to consider it pretty snappy compared to the PCs I had in the past.
The look is very stylish. I am very picky about look of system. I liked how the G5 iMac had everying in the LCD but the white plastic always made me think cheap. The silver/black look on this one is complete class. And its sooo quiet. I actually left it on over night in my room to download some stuff and I normally cant. You literally can not hear its running from a foot away. My gaming PC has to have 7 fans in it to run max resolutions at top processor speed and remain cool as I like. 35 C is as hot as I will let a system get.
I was initially leary of the glossy screen but honestly in home its not a concern at all. Those that are complaining about it must not be using the correct lighting. In proper lighting when the screen is active you don't see any glare. I only see glare when the unit is off. The black frame makes the display so bright. At first I thought my PCs LCD was failing after having used this one for a day because it was soo dim and dull. Colors just pop. It looks more lke a CRT as far as brightness and color. Very impressed with it.
The keyboard is amazing. Well the USB one, I suspect we will see a wireless version of it eventually, as I do not like the current wireless. I really like how low form it is and the keys are almost silent. Well spaced and generally a pleasure to type on. In fact I am typing this post on it. For those that like the traditional Expose keys like I do all you have to do is go into keyboard preferences and tell it to use them like normal function keys. Then if you want the hardware keys you use the FN. I have the remote right with it so the volume keys and play pause really dont have much use for me anyway.
The video card performs quite well. I do not know why all the fuss. There are faster cards out there but even in a pretty intense fight in BF2142 my fps did not go below 30. There are those that will brag that in the same fight their card was still doing 60 fps. To them I say congrats, I can not justify the expense when I cant see more than 30 fps anyway. So far I haven't ran into any games that do not look fine on it. It also has better OpenGL support than the nividia cards. Which for core animation in leopard is a huge thing and I think alot of companies are going to be doing more openGL stuff. First off they do not have to pay microsoft for directx access and being open source it has alot more potential. With EA working towards publishing games on Apple I suspect the ATI card may in the long run out perform the nVidia card which relies heavily on directx10, which means running Vista since microsoft has stated there will not be an XP version of dx10. I tried vista for about 2 days. 70% of my games took a 30-40% performance hit. Not to mention I refuse to run an OS that will tell me I can not run a program because it is unsafe.
As for those holding off for leopard I would check with the programs you use. Apple tends to make the version that a system ships with the minimum version that will boot it. So if you have programs that are older you might want to buy now, ya you have to pay for leopard but if you have a program that isnt supported right away you have an option whereas you might find that you loose that by waiting.
so wife and i finally decided to upgrade the ol' 733 quicksilver given the recent imac upgrade. she's been a great machine, but damn, that video editing has been getting slow. anywho, people are saying their machines are coming in 3-5 days . . . ours says 4-6 weeks. couldn't imagine such a quick drop in stock levels so soon. we did custom order, but still. is it the wireless keyboard that's hanging it up? sorry, didn't read all 1000 posts to sift through, if someone could enlighten us, that would be great![]()
don't you love it when rumors come true...

No to really I could have lived with out this wonderful little Road Apple that Steve has bestowed upon us. **Starts drowning in his hatred of Steve Jobs** Anyway shouldn't they drop the trade name Macintosh as none of these new computers are Macintosh's? >.< I hate it when people say "Apple made it therefore it is teh Macintosh!¡¡@" Any way the popping capacitor problem from the G5/early Snail-tel iMacs is only going to get worse with this machine... they are running higher power consuming processors (which run slightly faster but also run much warmer) and they crammed it into a space half as large, with WAY less ventilation. Any way any machine that you have to remove the LCD panel from in order to replace the hdd is made to die, and by this particular construction I would say that they have within 6-8 months. Good teh job apple, you've failed again! Does any one else miss John Sculley?![]()

They all run the Mac OS, so therefore they are Macintoshes.

In a word no. Here's two more: hell no.
This replaces my current 20" iMac 2ghz G5, so I'm hoping for a nice speed increase..
