Does anyone know what the liquid they used for the LCS is? I guess if it was never circulated and didn't have a chance to pick up gunk, and isn't corrosive or anything, it might be fine. But after sitting in a box for 15 years, who knows?

From what I’ve read, the early models used a somewhat corrosive coolant that did nasty things when it leaked. I believe the Quads used a more benign mix of water and propylene glycol along with some stabilizers to prevent issues with the mixed metals in the loop which is similar to what modern closed loop liquid coolers use. It does tend to gunk up over time though. There are filter screens on the inlets to the waterblocks that tend to clog up.

Several days ago tried to search some PM G5 at ebay. Can't say there was much of them. And about quads - quite nothing. ^_^

Many items on eBay - especially Macs are not even listed correctly or placed in the correct category. An A1181 that I purchased had been described by the seller as an iMac and I found a computer located in the boxing equipment category! Unsurprisingly, no-one else spotted it and I won the bid. 😂

I always wonder for what price they sell in the end... Because I really don't think there's anyone willing to pay 9 grand for a boxed iMac G3, or 11.000 for a sealed iPhone 2G, but suddenly they're "not available" anymore

As I said, anything less than quad isn’t worth anything new or not.. now, if someone sells a mint Quad G5 in box - that can go for 2500.00

@Macbookprodude
2500 of what currency? I really doubt a used PowerMac G5, even in perfect condition, maxed out and coming with all the accessories would go for more than 1500$, € or £. It just lacks the extreme ridiculous "factory sealed" multiplicator

What Russian site ?? - the dual 2.7 is nice too.. Quad and dual 2.7 are around 2500.00 if mint. Is it me or PPC Macs on eBay are going up in price ?

"You're barking at the wrong tree" :D. As for me - still periodically checking russian second-hand market site (thinking about G5 Dual 2,7GHz, if my memory serves me well). PowerMacs just gone comparing to previous year.
Similar story for me here in the US. A couple years ago, it seemed like PowerPC and even lots of old Intel stuff just vanished from local sites. It does still pop up from time to time though. Not sure what happened, maybe people finished cleaning out their basements.

No im not. Mint condition means " used, but like new."

I counted the original box into the "all the accessories", but I'll give you that.
However, I just can't imagine a G5 going for that much regularly...

And yes, I have this feeling, too. A few years ago, eBay and all the marketplaces were full of Macs and iPods and nice accessories and they all went for fair prices, but now there's only a handful left and everything went up. It's crazy.
i have to admit: that's a reasonable price to me. But it was an auction anyway.

How long ago such thing as Griffin iMate have you seen at ebay (or other similar market)? Wanted to by one (got MacAlly's single-button ADB-port mouse), but without that convertor I have nowhere to connect it.

In my opinion, anything less than Quad Core is not worth it, new or otherwise. Now, if this was new in box Quad G5 - the price I imagine would be in 1500 range !

My dear friend, a 2004 dual processor running 2.5 ghz or 2.7ghz ( and maybe 2.0) is a great G5. A dp 2.5 is almost as powerfull as a late 2006 macbook pro core 2 duo running an intel T7400 at 2.16ghz. The only G5 I'm not interested in are the one running the first gen ibm 970 or the weird single processor 1.6ghz G5 based on an imac. Also, since a 2004 G5 use pci-x slot, you can have a nice selection of really cool hardware at a low price. And in the world of G5, I see the 2004 as a well rounded ppc machine while the quad is kind of too powerfull for the software available.

My little 2 cents from a guy the really love these machine.

afaik, red coolant used in cars radiator (2004 model with panasonic lcs) and green coolant in the delphi lcs.

They come up not that infrequently but, again, the asking price is a tad "aspirational".

Griffin iMate ADB/USB adapter

Especially as there are enough guides about how to make one yourself.
