I dont understand what is so shady about it? plus who is to say that their wasnt other cost incurred in the development of a CDMA iphone, which is why the price is a little higher...

It's SHADY because the majority of people who are going to pay FULL retail are those of us who are ineligible for an early upgrade and have been loyal Verizon subscribers. We've been w/them for 10 years.

Many of us gave up on ever seeing the iPhone on VZW. A the same time I love Apple gear and use it daily for my business.

I gave up in late 09. Do I expect them to give me a free phone? No. But, for being a loyal customer, a little price break would be nice. Ok we can't get that? Fine, I'll still pay full retail. Guess what, they then announce a $50 premium over the AT&T iPhone4. It's nickle and diming 101.

So $50 isn't much maybe to a shill, but what is too much? And yet, why does Apple themselves list it for $50 cheaper if it cost so much more to develop?

I don't need an education on Business 101 or electronics. I run my own Professional Photo Retouching Business and my wife is a Professional Photo Agent who runs her own business. And I'm an electronics whore and major audio/video gear freak. I just understand the point of diminishing returns and that extra $50 may have just hit that point for me. It hits a point where it's laughable to drop that much on a PHONE. Just like some of the idiots I know who will spend $10,000 on a turntable stylus thinking they can eek out another -1db of harmonic distortion on a slab of vinyl.

I do understand however a company like, say, DIRECTV that will give you breaks if you call in to question why a new customer gets free HD for life and a 10 year customer doesn't. Their solution? A credit on my bill every month for the $10 HD fee. No haggling. Just asking. They seem to be doing ok.

Its not shady at all im sorry....they STATED their prices and its your OPTION to purchase or wait...if the 50 dollars is sooooo much to upset you, then WAIT for an upgrade or call and see if they will possibly bump your eligibility date up(they have done this for me in the past with the original droid). They are running a business!

A possible explanation on why apple is offering it 50 dollars cheaper is that Verizon might possibly have to pay a premium to bring the phone to their network, after all the contract through AT&T was rumored to go through 2012...Bottom line is we dont know what is going on behind the scene and what cost verizon is incurring.

3rd...im not trying to educate you, and i understand diminishing returns well, but when the consumer demand is this high for a phone, the phone is still going to sell at the price stated. Like i said before if the 50 dollars is such a big deal you always have the OPTION to wait...its not verizons responsibility to make sure you get it on release date, wait until your due for an upgrade. I dont know how much you charge for your services in your buisness, but for example, you wouldnt sell your services for $50 dollars when you knew you could easily sell just as much for $100 dollars. Same applies with the verizon iphone... Its not Nickle and Diming when the consumer has the OPTION not to get it. if its too much get something else or wait for the price to drop.

SHADY is AT&T bumping up the ETF fee to prevent users to switching to a network that may work better in their area IMO.

Im just tired of people finding the smallest things to complain about...Verizon customers wanted the iphone, well now you got it.

OK, my last post on the matter. I stopped by a Verizon kiosk coming back from the Apple store and the guy I spoke with had just come from a training about the iPhone.

He said that you can pre-order at midnight on the 3rd, since we're in Oregon he made sure to point out that he meant midnight on the east coast so we could do the pre-order after 9 PM on the 2nd.

Order processing and shipment should occur within 12-48 hours and delivery should happen before the 7th.

I pressed him on all of this and he stood firm and reiterated: You can pre-order your iPhone after 9PM on the 2nd (again, we're in Oregon) and you will have it delivered before the 7th.

We'll see if it comes to pass, but I'm done with all but the waiting.

I'm torn...I surely can't wait in-lines hoping to snag one, but as I'm ready for an upgrade and been wanting the iPhone for years on Verizon...I have an $80 phone purchase credit coming from my local Verizon...So I guess I can't preorder on the 3rd...It won't kill me if I don't get one until the middle or end of Feb, but would surely like one on the 10th after this long of wait.

Cool, so in Texas I should be able to pre-order at 11 pm!

I'm hoping this is the case. Either way I'll be good since I don't go on vacation til the 16th and I want to have it by then (mainly for a few specific apps that come in handy where we're going).

Good to know about the EST. I'm hoping that's true as then I can order at 10pm instead of midnight (I'd be up either way).

Ordering one at 12:00 AM on Feb 3rd... too bad it will not be for me. I'm not due for upgrade until April.

Hey guys I'm new here and this is my first post anyways I have waited patiently and for a long time for this day to come. I am do for an upgrade on Feb 12, do you think I can get the upgrade price on Feb 3rd or 10th or do I have to wait till the 12th and hope they don't sell out?

Is your upgrade "early" date the 12th, or your actual contract end date?

If your early date is the 12th then you'll probably have to wait as the online system won't see your date as eligible since your contract will end a few months later. You can try reaching out to a rep and see if they can adjust it due to the purchase, but unlikely.

If your actual contract end date is the 12th then you should be eligible already since you're only a few weeks away and I believe you can upgrade at either 20 or 22 months (can't remember which one).

The Feb 3rd event is online only so you have to be eligible in their system already for you to be able to do that. If you're not sure go to www.verizonwireless.com/iphone and do the eligibility check.

No it is my "early" upgrade date at 20 months.

You won't be able to pre-order on the 3rd then unless you can convince a rep to change your contract date. All the ordering on the 3rd will be online so it wont involve a rep who may get permission to auth you early.

You can call them and let them know. Be super nice, etc, and maybe they'll work with you.

Otherwise since both Apple/Verizon retail stores will both sell them starting the 10th I think you'll be able to find one if you do some calling around on the 12th.

My verizon business rep just told me that pre-orders will not ship until the 10th or later. YMMV.

Trust me, Reps at Verizon have absolutely NO CLUE what they are talking about. You can ask 5-10 different reps the same question and you will get 5-10 different answers. Verizon will probably ship them out the 9th at the latest so you receive the phone on the 10th (release day). If customers receive the phone later than the 10th (that made the pre-order before pre-order supply ran out) there will be a lot of PISSED OFF existing VZW customers. I will be personally ordering it right at 12AM PST (which is when pre-order opens) so hopefully i can get an order in before they run out.

Is the official launch going to be the same type of event as say the iPad launch? Will people be sleeping outside Verizon and Apple Stores just to get the iPhone 4 on a different carrier?

hmm that contradicts what the verizon rep I spoke with told me. She informed that as a current vz customer on the 3rd I would get it within a couple of days (overnight shipping) and not have to wait till the 10th with the rest of the mob
I spoke with a rep yesterday and from that conversation, no one will have their hands on the iPhone til the 10th. so from that I decided I will just go to a store and purchase it and leave with it that day.
