How do they get away with saying that the instinct has 5 times the 3G coverage as the iPhone? I think the WHOLE WORLD is a bit larger than the small US coverage that sprint has...
EDIT: all of those were pretty sad, seems to me like they are acting like little kids... This is worse than some of the new Get a Mac ads.
Since when does AT&T have worldwide coverage? Compare apples to apples (because if the average person roams w/ AT&T data, they won't be able to afford to use their phone for a while.)
5x the coverage is comparing Sprints very mature 3G network to AT&Ts very immature 3G network. AT&T is working on it and they will get there, but for now their 3G coverage is really lacking in a lot of places.
According to them it is lol
EDIT: As someone who switched from Sprint, I can vouch that the AT&T 3G network is faster than the Sprint network at least here in Fort Lauderdale.
Not here in Dallas. It's good, but I haven't noticed it to be any faster than Sprint or Verizon. I've used all 3 carriers in the last couple of years (edit: LOL...T-Mobile doesn't count!).....I still prefer Verizon for the network and customer service and Sprint for the network and price. AT&T only has the iPhone and that's the ONLY reason I have AT&T.
and so sprint breaks one of the biggest rules of advertising
never, EVER give free publicity to a competitor
ever seen the blockbuster ads about their mail service?
the packet ALMOST looks like netflix, but doesnt say netflix, and they never mention netflix in the ad. because thats free advertisement for a competitor
even apple, who comes close to breaking this rule with get a mac ads, never actually mentions a pc making company. they just say the words pc. (saying microsoft office doesnt count, because that is a feature of a mac, that it runs microsoft office)
Does the word "Vista" ring a bell????? Sorry, but they do mention their competitor directly by their VERY recognizable product name. And the difference I see here is that the Mac vs PC ads are often based on false information or exaggeration (not all, but several of them). Most of these ads are pretty good because they are all easily proven factual differences.
Now my thoughts on the ads as a prosumer:
I thought the first ad was lame. I didn't see a corralation between 3G network coverage and the cupcake. I don't think it really got their point across.
I thought the second one was fairly "witty" (for lack of a better word) when the screen started to scroll up and they were making a point that the list would be long.
The third one had me cracking up!! SO TRUE!!!!
The fourth one is also great....love the tumbleweed. My buddies Instinct kicks my iPhone's butt where GPS is concerned.
Number 5....this is one of the missing features I bitched about in my blog. For a phone w/ no buttons, how can they not have voice dialing included? BT voice dialing should be standard for such a phone....not having it is just asking for more wreckless drivers searching for numbers as they drive. DUH! Instinct FTW here and the ad showed that in a very funny manner. Got my attention (and pissed me off again.)
Sixth one....eh. True but I didn't find the ad compelling. I've had live TV...never really cared to use it honestly.
Lastly...number seven. Obviously true, kinda cute. Nothing extra special.
I have to say, my buddy with the Instinct and I compared our phones. While there are some off-the-shelf advantages to the Instinct, overall the iPhone wins simply due to the fact that it is a computing platform with the never-ending potential for continued improvement.
