It's a real shame the new Mac mini uses Intel integrated graphics. I think any of the recent ATI chipsets such as the x1300 would have been a lot better. I guess this was predictable. Only 64MB of shared memory too. Otherwise it would have been pretty damn nice.

I'm sure the upcoming MacBooks (iBooks) will mirror these specs.

That iPod Hi-Fi is butt ugly though. I was really surprised at what an unelegant solution they came up with. The Bose looks a lot better. As to which sounds better I don't know but neither is really audiophile quality. When computer people start talking about audiophile quality just tune them out. I'm sure a multi-millionaire like Steve Jobs is really going to throw away his home stereo for this.

$99 for a leather iPod case? c'mon. A case that costs 2/3 the price of the lowest nano? Who would buy a $1200 laptop case for thier MBP?

Intel GMA950 graphics processor!!!

If it wasn't for this I'd have my order in right now!!

Seriously, this would be an ideal box to do some light-weight gaming, especially once someone gets Windows running on it (side-by-side of course).

But this Intel graphics things is bad. See a benchmark here, compared to a $60 GeForce. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1821811,00.asp

I can't believe they put in integrated graphics. They could have at least put in an el cheapo dedicated video card. Plus $599 minimum to add insult to injury. I hope they will not do the same to the next iBook🙁 . On another note I was really hoping for an intel Powermac that I could dual boot. Why wait for Conroe just use dual dual cores from the current Pentium D 900 series. That way I can have a high end mac and Windows gaming platform in one machine😀 .

what the?

Intel GMA950 graphics processor. Integrated graphics YUK

What the ? "hook it up to your Tv" ---> to play bad quality divx homemade pr0n?
no, seriously, i'm sure the power of this chip is even worse than the 9200 with 32mb on my ibook, which cant even handle 420p videos (ok, on good days it does but forget about browsing the inernet)

Seriously, "hook it up to your TV" would necessitate a decent card, iThink🙁

Ugh, small prints...

Memory available to Mac OS X may vary depending on graphics needs. Minimum graphics memory usage is 80MB, resulting in 432MB of system memory available.

Personally, I don't mind Integrated graphics but the fact that they didn't even put something like an X1300 in the high-end is a bit annoying.

Well if the last Mac Mini was pretty much a headless iBook, say hello to the the new Macbook specs everyone.

I priced a mac mini core duo with 1 GB DDR, wireless keyboard, and it comes out to as much as an Intel Imac.

Intel iMac is a much better deal. 🙂

Sad for the mac mini - integrated graphics, WTF! 😱 🙁

duo mini already ordered

My order is in! As soon as the store was available I put in my Core Duo Mac Mini order. Been waiting for the Intel Minis to come out for a while now. I've been chomping at the bit to switch from Windows and this Mini is just what I want.

The only customization I did is 1 gig RAM upgrade. It says it will ship in 1-3 business days.

Wow, there are some great features like gbit ethernet, two DIMM slots etc, Core Duo I didn't expect. But integrated graphics? C'MON. I hate that so bad. Next they'll be saying it comes with Windows preinstalled.

If used only to stream and play video to a HDTV at 1920 by 1080, how will the integrated Intel GMA950 graphics processor perform? Good enough?

Not really, no. It's the lack of discrete RAM that really makes the heavy lifting hard. 720p would be okay, but 1080 in any capacity is definitely pushing it.

Am I being too hopeful thinking that the new mini will be able to cope with FCPHD when it goes to intel?...

Woohoo! After waiting 20 minutes for the Apple Online Store to load up the options on the new mini, it seems like they've given us everything that we wanted (for the most part, at least...). Of particular interest to me is the 2GB of RAM and 1.6GHz Duo! Great job, Apple! 🙂

This turned out better than I ever could have imagined...Although the price definitely jumps up quickly with all those options. Oh well, Cheers! 😀

Very nice...This new Mini will be fast, and it's a kick-a** machine for the money...SATA, wifi and bluetooth standard plus that much fatter FSB, not to mention Tiger+iLife and FrontRow - woohoo!

Like everybody else I'll take a moment to whine about the GPU - I bet Intel really twisted Apple's arm to use their own integrated hardware rather than something from nVidia/ATI. The problem is, will this integrated stuff cut it for games like WoW or Call of Duty 2 (which is in develoment)? I'm a bit of a video card snob so I'm a little irritated they decided to go this route, but we can't really judge till we see some real-world benchmarks.

I'll admit the Hi-Fi doesn't blow me away, but then again I haven't heard it yet....I'm not in the market for one anyhow.

didn't see ram specs...are there slots to upgrade the ram? if so, integrated graphics may not be too bad for simple low end stuff...but i agree that i would rather have a dedicated vid card.

Once again, there are no Macs for below $500! 😡
Couldn't they have a model without bluetooth and Airport Extreme for $499? For people just getting a cheap computer, who needs to stream iTunes through Front Row? The price is what's important to me, not extra features.

Does anyone know if I can still buy a G4 Mini?

I've been waiting for this for a very long time. I'm sure the core solo would be just fine for my needs as I don't have an HD TV or anything. But Intel graphics, not too thrilled. Also the price jumping up $100 on the base model doesn't gel with me either.

Hmmmm.....

Are you kidding? Call of Duty 2 on integrated graphics? haha.....Come on now....You can't be a video card snob and actually type that out without laughing.

There is some information on the GMA950 here. It looks pretty awful even compared to the cheapest chips from other manufactures.

Also given that the lowend Mac mini has the Core Solo it makes for one hugely under performing system for its (increased) price. There is no way I would ever advise anyone to touch this thing.

my order is in.... also

just place my order.. the integrated graphics do suck but its just going to be entertainment pc streaming itunes,etc... got it with 1 gb ram and wireless keyboard+ mouse.

1080.00 for a mini shipped. and they charged tax on the shipping... why.....

but old well....

This is Apple's low end machine. It has SOME high-end specs, but you can't expect it to have ALL high-end specs. Other companies use integrated graphics on the low end too--and meanwhile a LOT about the Mac Mini was just upgraded.

I'll wait for real-world reports of the Mac Mini's graphics before I judge. But I already know that most low-end users don't need the fastest 3D rendering.

I wish you could still get a sub-$500 Mac and I'm sure that day will come again. But I'd gladly pay the $100 increase for:

* Audio-in added

* Digital/optical audio (in and out)

* Wi-Fi now standard

* Bluetooth now standard

* Gigabit Ethernet

* Faster hard disk

* More USB ports

* Two RAM slots

* MUCH faster (and future-proof) processor that nearly rivals a G5 (duals on the high end!)

* Front Row remote

(HD space hasn't increased has it? Was it always 60 and 80? And is the double-layer SuperDrive new on the high end?)

How do you think the Duel Cores, stack up against the Rev A iMac G5?

The Intel Graphic Card scarys me, but other then that it look like it should smoke the iMac G5
