Gave up on Apple.Com

Might have been too much to try and switch carriers on Apple.Com this morning. Tried around 7am and could not get to the part where they confirmed my reservation.

Went to verizon.com and they were more than happy to get me off of AT&T :)

I'm so happy to finally be able to get a signal in my apartment, on the drive home, in my office...etc. Goodbye to 3GS, goodbye to my busted backlight, goodbye to not being able to mute or sync in my car.

Oh, and goodbye to unlimited data. Oh well.

For the record: I was always going to buy the new iPhone, just disappointed that it wasn't more than an incremental update from the iPhone 4 I could have bought back in March.

...but I think the magic of having an iPhone is dead. There's no lines, no crashing servers, just no urgency to get this iPhone this time around. Apple really has to rethink their road map.

I think it's funny how all of us nerds on MacRumors think we can run Apple better than they already do. If we were as smart and resourceful as they were, we would have our own multi-billion dollar business to tend to and wouldn't be so worried about theirs.

Ugh $649 to upgrade on Sprint. I'm on the complete opposite upgrade cycle as Apple's releases now. By the time I'm eligible for a new 2yr the 4s would have been out for 6 months. Bleh.

It's a shame that it works this way, but that's life. My suggestion would be to buy the 4S now (if you want it, of course) off contract, and when the next one comes out, you will be able to re-sell the phone for probably $500. MY BET is that they may actually still release the 5 in the Summer timeframe instead of the fall, so you end up paying $100 to rent an iPhone for 9 months or so.

I woke up at 3 am Eastern to place my order. I gave up at 4:30 am.

Woke up at 7:30 this morning and was able to place the order with delivery set for October 14.
:D
I'm excited to get the phone. Frustrated to lose an hour and a half of sleep last night, though!

I did the same thing. Woke up at 3 and gave up around 4:30. Woke up around 7am and ordered without an issue.

I get what you are saying. I wasn't impressed by the new iPhone and still am not. However, I had eligible upgrades available (other lines on our family plan), so bit the bullet. Even now I really don't think I need this phone and feel slightly guilty. Truth is, I probably would be just as happy with a new iPhone 4 (which I'm using now) since all I want is that snappiness of a new phone feel again. My iPhone has aged considerably over the last 14 months. I'm always charging it, the home button never works on the first try, and the camera takes forever to load. All of these were not problems I had when I first got the iPhone 4.

Received the email to complete my order two hours after I completed my reservation (which took just under two hours). After getting numerous error messages when trying to complete the order, I finally get to the checkout page only to see that my shipping address is wrong with no way to edit it. I called Apple to ask how to edit the shipping info and they explained that I could edit the order after it was placed. Well, its placed, and when I log into my account to change the shipping info for the order I get the "We'll be back soon" message. Quite the ordeal just to spend some money. Oh well, if it were easy, it wouldn't be as much fun.

So much for what critics had to say about the iPhone 4S. There will probably be long lines to get one next week. I for one will definitely get one as a tribute.

The funny thing is that if Apple's servers were crashing today people would instead be lamenting that one of the largest tech companies in the world can't get its servers working. Truth is we don't know what the demand for the 4S is but I think the fact Apple has stopped per orders in some countries to fulfill U.S. orders is a good hint.

As did I. Finally got one reserved at 5:17 am.

No more unlimited data for those of us who have had it since the original iPhone?

After you select the phone and the size and the carrier, it will check for eligibility, then after that it will ask you to pick a data plan. One of the options of the data play is $30 for Unlimited. Since you were Grandfathered in from the original plan.

Enjoy!

All I want to know where is my confirmation email from Sprint. I oredered it like 6 hours ago and they charged my CC immediately.

Oh relax

Is this how you behave when a girl doesn't answer your call after 10 minutes?

I still have not received my confirmation email and "track order" part of the store has been down. This was amusing the first couple of years, but by now they should be able to handle this load a bit more gracefully. They know exactly how much demand this will put on their systems and they got to practice, what 5 times now? I got past eligibility part uneventfully, so they cannot blame AT&T for this.

Just to clarify on why people love the 4S:

Apple updates the physical design once every two years.
Contracts last two years.
Result? People always fall out of contract when a significant upgrade is available. I really don't see how this is so difficult to understand, in fact, it's pure genius.

I get a new iphone every year. Contracts arent any specific length of time. The more money you spend on your plan with ATT the faster you will be elligible for an upgrade. I guess I should clarify that you may still be under contract, but you will be able to get a subsidized phone from them.

pre order or stand in line

So I can't decide if I should pre order or stand in line on the 14th. Are the preordered phones shipping on the 14th? Or are they shipping earlier with expected delivery by the 14th?

thanks!

I thought people didn't like the 4S. What happened?

I was one of those people who was upset due to no iPhone 5. I had been following the rumors and hype for months on this, so my expectations were off the charts. When Apple didn't deliver, I was majorly disappointed. 24 later, cooler heads prevailed. I took some time to understand all of the new features. I was really hoping for a larger screen, but am excited to have the extra horsepower under the hood. I'm also really looking forward to the new camera. Hopefully, I'll be able to retire my old point and shoot camera.

So although I was initially disappointed, that disappointment dissapted over the course of the day. I was one of those knuckleheads trying their hardest to pre-order a phone through AT&T's corporate site. It took me about two hours, but I finally got one.

Can't wait to spend next weekend with it.

They are delivered starting on the 14th. Anyone that ordered last night is pretty much garaunteed one on the 14th. In the past though, people have recieved their preorders earlier than the expected delivery date.

Be back soon?

Anyone else getting the 'We'll be back soon' message from the UK store when they try to track their order? Been doing it for a couple of hours....

Ordering issues

The problems experienced last year are nowhere in sight. You are pretty much able to pre-order one without any difficulties.
That may be true now, it wasn't at 9AM, and it certainly wasn't at 2AM. I had to place my order 3 times over the course of an hour and it crapped out every time. When I tried it again this morning, it took 3 tries but it finally worked and I received my notification from Apple that the phone will be delivered on 10/14.
