Apple is set to unveil iOS 27 next month ahead of a September release. The update is expected to include a dedicated Siri app, expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities in apps like Wallet, Safari, and Shortcuts, an upgraded keyboard with improved autocorrect, the ability to use Apple Maps via satellite connection, and more.

In his Power On newsletter today, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman revealed four additional iOS 27 changes related to AirPods, Genmoji, AirPlay, and Siri.

Here are his latest iOS 27 expectations:
  • A revamped AirPods setting menu that is better organized
  • Improved quality for Genmoji and Image Playground creations
  • The ability to set AirPlay alternatives such as Google Cast as default — possibly EU only
  • A new Siri interface with a dark color scheme, similar to Apple's WWDC 2026 graphics
Apple's WWDC 2026 keynote begins on Monday, June 8 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, so we should learn more about these features in a few weeks.

Nice, it would be great if Apple fixed the bug where the display showing both the case and airpod battery percentage DOES NOT disappear when the case is subsequently closed

You have to TAP to the outside of that display (in the center) for it to go away
It SHOULD just go away immediately after the case has been closed after taking AirPods out. It doesn’t and has been this way for a long time

“The ability to set AirPlay alternatives such as Google Cast as default — possibly EU only”

This would be an absolute game changer for those with Google speakers/hubs and use Apple Music/Podcasts like we do in our house.

Although would be very disappointing if it was EU only.

Do nothing but release Siri 2.0.

Strip out old code and rewrite existing code to debloat and be optimise the OS’s across all products.

The more things they choose to tweak the more bugs they’ll introduce.

Keep it simple Apple.

Your software has needed this for a long time.

An entire year and we get a new menu?
iOS 27 is purported to be a release focused on major stability, bug, and performance fixes along with major refinements to the OS, akin to that of Mac OS X Snow Leopard. It isn’t expected to be a gigantic feature release with hundreds of groundbreaking new features so it makes sense as to why a new AirPods settings menu is among the new things described.

Mac Rumors forums: “We want nothing but bug fixes, UI and UX improvements and the new Siri Apple promised two years ago.
Also Mac Rumors Forums: only bug fixes, UX improvements and AI? AI is the first thing I turn off and I miss when Apple only made computers… but also I want a top to bottom redesign of every operating system every year.

If the rumors are to be believed, iOS 27 won't be fully available until some time later in the year, like many of the previous OS announcements.

Re: AirPods

I just ordered the new Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro earbuds…it seems like every major manufacturer now has a program to test your ears and tailor the EQ/ gain for your personal best sound.

I wish Apple would do this as well. I’m looking forward to testing non-Apple buds and seeing how they stack up to my AirPod pro 2.

I tried the Sony. Great equalizers, great sound... but they've been hurting my ears and returned them. I teste the Jabra a few years ago: great sound, but support ended after a year or two. In the end, integration works best with Airpods but I agree the limitations on sound quality control deceives me a lot. Just a simple graphic equializer... why don't we have that while all the other earpods have that?
