I have 5.1 b2 and it has made a nice difference in battery life... can't be very long before it is out for everyone

If you don't mind me ask, what are you getting before and now after installing the update?

After my old 5.0.1 (not the now released b2 one) update on my 4S, I get until 1-2%:
Usage: 5 hours, 4 minutes
Standby: 1 Day, 21 hours

Is that consider good or bad for people with 4S?

I'm downloading this version now. I've had the 'Invalid SIM' message on numerous occasions rendering the phone useless. Hope this fixes it!

Slightly off topic. Just installed this and there now appears to be an option for Hotmail (Windows Live Mail) in the email setup. I'm sure that wasn't there before!? Perhaps I missed it!

A bug fix for a bug that no one had?! So many things wrong with my phone still.

No one had? Just because you didn't have it it means no one else did? Such wonderful logic there. I had it quite often on my iPhone 4 and it was a real pain. Sure, the phone has other bugs but this one was really, really annoying. Sometimes even restarting the phone wouldn't fix it and I'd just essentially have a paperweight.

It sucks that your phone is having other issues, so tell Apple about it if it's not being sorted out. How do you think they find half the bugs? People tell them about it.

9A406 seems to have fixed my issue where when I left an elevator it took a couple minuted before it went from "no service" to actually having bars. Before updating, I used to just turn airplane mode on then off and that way it forced it to search and get bars.

Edit: never mind what I said. It's still happening...

My wife's 4S (acquired on launch day) was giving the "invalid SIM" and "no service" issues. We took it to the local AT&T store and they replaced the SIM - no problems since then.

I had the "no service" problem since I bought my iPhone 4S 32gb on Dec 6th. I live in Argentina. Tried the new build 5.0.1 but STILL HAVING THE PROBLEM!!! I will try with a new Sim next week from my carrier (not having much hope though).
I went back to my iPhone 4 again untill Apple fixes this or I could go to an apple store to get it replaced...no official apple store in Argentina :(

Google how to put your iPhone in DFU (restore mode). Then download the new release (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750).
Final step: RESTORE from ITunes (alt+click on iTunes restore button) and select the downloaded ipsw file.
Good luck!

I have this issue with my iPhone4. Started this thread only a little more than a week ago.

Only now, since it's been restored to a clean 5.0.1, iTunes won't even let me get past the "There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone...." message so I can't even try this new build.

Any ideas short of taking it to an Apple store?

Had this very problem. Took my 4S into the Apple store. They tried swapping out the SIM card. When that didn't work, they replaced the iPhone on the spot. Now it sounds like it was a software issue. Wonder how many handsets they replaced until they figured this out...

It hasn't worked for me :(

Within 10 minutes of updating I got Invalid SIM

I really think that Apple are letting their loyal customers down badly with this and the battery life issues.

I know Apple love to be secretive but in these two cases they should make a public statement about the status of the fixes because it is taking them so long to produce them. How much longer do we have to wait?

not worked for me...bad battery life, frequent call drops...damn!
And what is up with this ?

I've had issues where I'm in a definite 3G area, it'll drop to no service then switch to EDGE only. Sometimes it'll stay like this for an hour or more, no matter how many times I restart my phone.

I was having the no sim card errors and after 3 new sim cards I went to the apple store and they swapped the phone for me. No issues ever since. Going on two weeks now

I followed those steps and it totally fixed the problem for me, before this my iPhone 4S was basically an iPod touch, I struggled with the sim card issues for a whole week without luck, this new iOS 5.0.1 build totally solved the problem for me, the iPhone is now working perfectly, not a single issue since I did this.

Actually there was no reason for Apple to label it 5.0.2 and push it out to everyone. No reason at all.

This issue affects a microscopic number is users, and those people will either A) be competent enough to research the issue, find the fix, and apply it, or B) go to an Apple store and say, "wtf?", and a genius will fix the problem is minutes.

Everyone else, without the issue, just needs to calm down. You don't need the latest build just because.
