Personally I'd go for the mini simply because I'd never buy an Apple product that isn't the latest and greatest seeing as it would go out of date so soon. If a big and possibly higher-resolutoon screen (depending on weather the mini is retina or not) is really a selling point, I'd wait, save a little extra money and get the iPad 3 or whatever new 10" lightning model comes out tomorrow.

I doubt that the mini will have retina. I'm also considering on just saving a lil more and getting the 3 as well. Keep hearing so much about the retina display.

Aside the fact that we don't know the specs yet, it also depends on what you prefer.
I can't say yet because I haven't seen it, but I think I'd rather buy a 8" iPad than a 10" one.

Also, the price difference between iPad 2 and iPad 3 is like 50$ so to me, there's no point in buying the iPad 2.

Obviously, "the point" is screen size.

I agree, for kids, the smaller iPad may have an advantage.

For an adult, the larger screen may have an advantage.

As far as I can tell, as of tomorrow, you will be able to get an 8" iPad 2 (the Mini) for $329 (assuming this is 16gb) or a 10" iPad for $399 ($70 more)..........that's the real choice/differences.

I'm assuming (based on rumors), the resolutions will be similar, the cpu/gpu performance will be similar, battery life will be similar, both will run the same apps, neither will have Siri, etc.

Edit: I also expect that "first adopters" will run into quality control issues (they always do, these days) as Apple is not quit as good at QA/QC as they used to be. Probably as a result of penny pinching Chinese manufacturers.
