Just done some further tests and compared the three network 3g card in my iPhone 4s and then the iPad

I carried out 3 tests in each one and here are the results

Iphone 4s (run first)

Test1 6.71 Mbps
Test2 4.72 Mbps
Test3 3.57 Mbps
Average 5.00 Mbps

New iPad (run straight after)

Test1 9.51 Mbps
Test2 8.40 Mbps
Test3 9.03 Mbps
Average 8.98 Mbps

on same sim card, same network, within 2 minutes of each other the iPad speed was 79% faster:D:D:D:D:D:D

i'm amazed. I have screen shots of all the tests if I need to upload

I have to ask. Why did you pick O2 as your carrier if you don't get any 3G on it? O2 is probably the worst carrier to pick for an iPad.

What is the BB code to resize the image? Couldn't remember it.

O2 is the only network that supports 3G on 900mhz frequency in the Uk at the moment. My iPhone 4S is on O2Uk and iPad 3rd Gen on Vodafone Uk. My iPhone gets better 3G reception and speed than my iPad does most of time.

Maybe but there is not much chance of getting 3G rurally on O2. Major towns and thats about it.

It terms of best network for Internet use on a potable device 3 will always win as they have the biggest and fastest 3G network in the UK, and when u look at contracts and prices they offer the best deals and most traffic, why anyone would choose orange or O2! Its beyond me!

I am on 3UK, and here is the speed I got. :)

But the problem with 3 is that it's very unstable during the day, only get decent speed during the evening.

When a year ago you are desperate for an iPad 2 on launch day and everywhere else has sold out :p

Does 3 still offer prepaid iPad sim card from their store? I'm wondering because that's what I bought last Oct when I was in UK. Do they have the HSPA+ sim on prepaid package as well?

You definitely can. So I guess it's the same sim I bought awhile earlier.

Why is it showing up as "DiDa Mobile" on the OP's iPad? IIRC it showed up as " 3 UK" on my iPad.

Network 3 will always be the fastest. They're the only network with 3G signals exclusively through the UK. o2 by comparison are dreadful. Even my iPad 1 managed 3G speeds of around 7mb using the same prepaid sim I now use in this 4G iPad.

Great thread

As an iPhone 4 (noS) owner I thought it was exciting the other day when I managed 5Mbps in the kitchen (O2 / West London). Seeing these HSPA+ speeds are jaw dropping. That one pushing 20Mbps is staggering.

As a soon to be iPad 3 owner are there any upsides / downsides to Three? Is it even worth trying Vodaphone / O2 / the rest? I understand some people are reluctant to go with Three for their mobile device if they depend on it (calls & data) for work 24/7.

Are the non-Three networks due any significant upgrades soon? It's a hard subject to investigate (google search) without getting lots of advertorial sites.

This thread is the best info i've seen on HSPA+ / UK speeds. Thanks.

I get 15 down and 5 up on '3' but can't work out how to screen shot so may take an iPhone pic of screen and upload later.

Are you guys who are using the prepaid 3 SIMs cutting down full-size ones to microsim size? I can't see any prepay microsims on the 3 site, only the monthly contract iPad microsims.

I have got three micro sims off T-Mobile 2 contracts and 1 payg all have some sort of Internet data package and the highest download speed has always been 3.5mbs.
