New iPad Air and iPhone SE Models With A15 Chip, 5G, and More Reportedly Enter Production

How about the high-end Mac Mini? hopefully it doesn't get pushed to WWDC as it has been rumored for the iMac Pro... by the current shipment estimates of the new MBPs, I'm not optimistic.
Apple seems to need a less expensive headless Mac that isn’t as expensive as a Mac Pro, but is this sorta Mac Mini Pro happening or are we seeing a new Mac model coming? There has always been a big gap between the two headless macs. The 27” iMac has always been the in between bargain, and now that redesigned model is in doubt it will ready for the spring event.

I think with the AS transition the chip variants / performance brackets are gonna be more compact / less spread out, the MBPs, high-end Mini and iMac Pro will all share the M1 Pro / M1 Max, with the iMac Pro possible having an additional dual M1 Max (Ultra) option.

The Mac Pro might offer dual and quad M1 Max (Ultra) configurations. So in a sense, the in-between headless Mac will effectively be the impending high-end Mini, offering similar perf as the entry iMac Pro / Mac Pro.

Someone remind me whatever happened to talk of a MacBook Air bump?
I thought we were tracking toward a Spring refresh but hearing "late 2022"now?
This will be the next Mac in my little ecosystem and I would like for it to happen yesterday.
The M2 MacBook Air rumors have generally
skewed toward a second half 2022 release, but one or two reports indicated a Spring 2022 release and users in these forums have been quoting it as gospel. I would say the most reasonable release for the M2 MBA is going to be October of this year.

Ah, makes sense. Maybe I was tying a Spring event with one of a more entry-level focus. And since I consider MBA entry-level…

Hmm, I may need to revisit my ‘22 purchasing plans. Dang.

Apple, please deprecate the lightning port and SIM tray. They are both significant environmental damage vulnerabilities for iPhones. Drop damage is controllable with suitable case selection for use cases that require drop protection. There is no longer a compelling need for any of them with WiFi-6 and 5G cellular connectivity for data, wireless charging for the battery and eSIMs for cellular connections.

I would be surprised if Apple does any hardware announcements at WWDC. If they do, I think it would for a new Apple Silicon Mac Pro and MAYBE a more Pro focused Mac mini. I think they last time they did a hardware announcement was 2019. I am not saying it's not going to happen, I am just not getting my hopes up.

Does anyone expect the camera on the SE to be improved? Whether through a better lens or some improvements because of the A15 chip?
Most likely the A15 will be used to improve images via its computational photography algorithms just like the A13 does on the SE 2020m (and it does a great job from my experience). The camera hardware will most likely be the exact same as the iphone 8.

For UK market, will 2022SE be still stuck with Intel modem or will it get the Qualcomm?
We will get the exact same spec as everyone else. Apple don't change components for different regions like Samsung do (e.g. Exynos and Snapdragon chips in different countries on Galaxy phones).

The Mini 6 being more of a lateral move than an actual upgrade to the Mini 5 is frustrating also..

:D
It was a good upgrade, you just don't like the display motion issues that most ignore.

  • A15 Bionic compared to A12 Bionic
  • 4 GB Ram vs 3GB RAM
  • 8.3" compared 7.9" screen (video content in 16:9 is noticeably larger)
  • Rear 12MP Wide camera compared to a 8MP
  • Front 12MP wide camera compared to a 7MB
  • USB-C compared to lightning
  • 5G Cellular option compared to 4G LTE
  • 2nd Gen Pencil support compare to 1st gen
  • Speakers widely spaced in landscape rather then close together near port.
  • WiFI6 (AX) instead of only 802.11AC
Now the Air should see parity finally in the spring.

Physical SIMs are important when travelling, lending a phone etc. You could try to ask your provider to temporarily swap your eSim, but this will almost certainly be slow, if it is even possible. I've never had a problem with damage on the side of a phone or any real issue with a SIM (I use bumper cases). The Lightning port is needed for proper headphones, charging where wireless is not available (eg when travelling), data transfer when Wifi is not available or permitted etc.

You just reminded me my new phone has an eSim, though. Must figure out what I can do with it!

As for me, I think I'm getting the new Air, if it's not too convincing, hopefully the old model sees good discounts.

Same here. I’m really quite excited for the new iPad Air but if it’s nothing much better/more desirable than the last one, then that’ll be the one I’ll get.

iPhone SE - notchless, bezels, home button, LCD screen, good physical size - it ticks my boxes. Ideally, I would like a slight re-design while retaining these features.
I hope Apple puts more ram in, with the A15 and latest bluetooth.

I’ve set my budget this year:

Apple Watch 7
New iPad
New iPhone 4.7

All for mommy! Apple/GS seem to have increased my limit on my Apple Card too. So, making these purchases will be much easier.
I'd skip the Series 7 watch. Rumours are strong that the 8 will be a redesign. I bought a used stainless LTE 4th gen for $200 as my first Apple Watch this year and my next upgrade would be to the 8th. A Series 5 would be ideal with the always on screen but I wanted stainless and stumbled across the one I bought.
