If Apple adds these features, they will surely increase the price by $100+. Tired of non ground breaking features being added purely for the sake of skyrocketing the price to capture more of consumers hard earned revenue. I’d rather have the cheaper iPad Air but they will likely no longer sell it to force people to hand over even more money.
Well, we do have a choice - we can choose not to buy.

Even if people grumble - as long as they keep buying the new shiny toy, Apple has no particular incentive not to jack up prices as they see fit.

wanna bet? ipad air was already increase by $100 with the redesign
So, no, no price increase, stop miss-leading users

Might as well just call it the iPad Semi-Pro at this point, because they’re going to price it that way.

No oled. Shame. No interest.
Why? What makes you think OLED would be superior on the iPad?

Personally, I still generally don’t think consumers understand the difference between LCD/mini LED -versus- OLED. I know there’s advantages as Techies we can tell, but I suspect OLED panels still are not enough of a selling point to consumers, especially if that means if there is a price increase.

Didn’t they already increase the price by a lot last time?

Their non „Pro“ products (iPhone / iPad) are getting so close to one another in terms of specs, that these products only exist to justify the prices of the Pro. You cant just start at 1k after all. Honestly, what do you do with the M1 on the iPad Pro so far, since it is still running the non Pro „iOS“

Are you all noticing the trend here? Apple includes features exclusive to the Pro models a year later on the cheaper models. The best way to play this game is to always wait. There is just too much diminishing value on the Pro models of many Apple products. My friend bought a iPhone 12 (non-Pro) 6.1 and he is more than happy with it. I am even thinking of upgrading to the 12 later this year from my X. I guess you could say its a great time to be alive.

Agreed and this is why the only “Pro” Apple product I have is a 2015 MacBook Pro, which was bought as other MacBooks at the time did not have retina screens. If I was buying a laptop today it would definitely be an M1 Air. My iPhone (12 mini), iPad (Air 4) and AirPods (3) are all “regular”. ?

Deeper blacks and no light bleed - great for watching movies and stuff. ?

Why would you upgrade to the 12 later this year, when the 13 is pretty much at the same price and double the standard storage amount (if you're buying new)??

The iPad Air is the "consumer" iPad. The base iPad is "entry level". The iPad Pro has extra features that are cool but Jack up the price a lot. Air and Mini don't need those.

The iPad lineup is pretty streamlined now. 1 entry level, 2 consumer big & small, 2 pro big & small.

They're all sold to 'consumers' and by definition the base iPad is consumer device. Again 'Air' in the current lineup does't offer anything to the product name. It's better than the base iPad but it resembles the 2018 iPad Pro far too much as does the current iPad Pro in terms of its design queues. 'Air' doesn't have a place in the product name anymore it's not definitive nor makes the product itself stand out from all the other models.

I doubt there will be a price increase. That comes with a redesign or the inclusion of a better display tech

what I expect in 2022 for the iPad:

- base level iPad : possible redesign to iPad Air 3 (10.5”),laminated display, remain on A13: possible small price increase to 349 USD/worst case to 399 USD - update in the fall

- iPad mini : no update in 2022, first update likely fall 2023 with a spec bump to the A17.

- iPad Air : updates mentioned in this report. A15, Center stage - no price hike except maybe if they increase base storage to 128 GB but even then I don’t expect a price hike.

- IPad Pro 11”: update probably in the fall of 2022: Mini led display, M2, potential small redesign , camera update possibly - price hike to 899 USD

- ipad pro 12.9” : updated at same time as the 11” pro : M2, potential small redesign, camera update possibly - no price change

I’m guessing A16 for the air. It got the A14 before the iPhone did when it was released

So, it's just playing catch-up to the iPad mini? So, the mini and the Air will take turns one upping each other while the one getting one-upped gets to feel like it's a year and a half behind the curve? Seems needless to me.

Also, at what point does Apple just merge the Air and 11" iPad Pro? Give the Air a more powerful processor, better sound, 120Hz refresh rate, and FaceID and you're already there.

I don't foresee a price increase either. The Air 4 paved the way for the new price point. We should expect another increase if and when it goes OLED, which isn't supposedly anytime soon.

Now, the cellular model will be slightly more expensive than the Air 4 (like $20USD more), since it'll be 5G, but the WiFi model should hold at the same price.

I suspect there will be more they bring to the Air 5 than mentioned here. Earlier rumors said it would get a dual lense rear camera like the 2020 Pro, as well as quad speakers. Those rumors may or may not be true, but either way I expect something to set it apart from the Mini 6.

I’ve been ready to buy the all-screen iPad Air (or likely its forthcoming successor variant) but for the impediment of Touch ID.

Another family member has one and it’s clear Face ID would mostly eliminate the frustration of having to reach out to authenticate on the Lock Screen etc.

Other than that it’s a great product.

No surprises at all. The Air and mini have usually mirrored each other.

Isn't the upgrade obvious? I mean the iPad mini has always been somewhat of a smaller version of the Air. They didn't upgrade the Air last year probably due to the component shortages. Now it's the iPad Air's turn. Nothing too newsworthy here. The iPhone SE refresh is the wild card, with so many different rumors.
