New iPad auto-brightness

Well, so after some testing in a completely dark room I can see that the screen gets indeed dimmer when I turn autobrightness on and lighter if I turn it off. However the slider itself doesn't seem to move. Is that normal ?

I don't remember the auto-brightness ever having anything to do with the slider.
