No he didn't.

Whether you like it or not, not responding to this thread after the 14th does not make him a liar. He did not say that he knows for certain that new iPads are coming on the 14th. If he did, he would have been lying.

He didnt lie but he was wrong.

And I can only imagine he is avoiding this thread due to the backlash from those who thought this was some kind of official promise, those that are still complaining about it in the thread.
Although I don't know why he hasn't closed this thread by now.

Yes, he did. So, it's time to get over it.

What backlash? Does close-quarters combat await? It's a forum. He has nothing to fear.

I happened to stop in and see everyone playing a classic game, and somehow people are always surprised when Lucy doesn't let Charlie kick the football.

There are two ways of looking at this, and the truth (FWIW) is somewhere in the middle, I suppose:

1. He's a liar, intentionally misleading the Macrumors community and all that wanted to believe him, and is sitting at home, in his mother's basement, giggling as he (or she... we're talking about a liar, right? Even though it said that he was a he, s/he is trying to throw us off) has a 2nd username and feeds the story to 27 pages of point/counterpoint.

2. He's a well-meaning misinformed telco employee that saw a bunch of items around the office, and decided to put it here, and is embarrassed at the $#%#storm created here and doesn't really want to come back to "face the music." Due to confidentiality agreements between himself and his employer, any more info may make it easier to find out who he is, and doesn't want to give up $4,000,000 that he'll earn over his lifetime to come back and give more info that would help track him down.

Either way, it doesn't matter. If this is so important that you get all wrapped around the axle and are either looking for a public humiliation or beating, or want this person to explain, in detail, where they went wrong, then, I fear, your deep involvement in this story needs more help that this guy (or girl) does.

What will your quest for a piece of meat get you? Nothing. It won't even stop the next troll that comes along. What will continued faith in this person get you? Again, nothing.

So, while I still want to believe, the facts are that it isn't coming out on 4/14/17. My life is going on.
[doublepost=1492429365][/doublepost]
Yet, you keep coming back...

(I saw your like on the failed mortar post... :D )

So you're saying I could be right? I'm simply making an observation.

He didn't think about his confidentiality agreement before he got it going?

Let's stop getting all wrapped up in the wording. He lied. He wasn't the first and he won't be the last to play this game, lol.

No, he didn't lie. He was wrong but the only thing he could have lied about is working in telecommunications or having information that indicated an April 14th launch, neither of which you can prove he's lying about, but he could be. The backlash from you alone seems like a good reason to ignore this thread, although really I don't know why anyone still cares. But if he never comes back and this thread is closed, then you can say for certain that he lied about something - coming back to this thread if he is wrong.

We really don't have evidence either way to know if he/she was:

a) telling the truth
b) lying

I'm not saying he was lying, but it's absolutely a possibility.

Yes, he lied.

Lol, now he is scared of me? I said all he had to do was come back in and say he got it wrong and nobody would probably care. I said he lied, and you took issue with it. You are the only one who cares that much. He's probably enjoying things even more, knowing that he has you to defend him until his last day on earth.

It's going exactly as he planned. He logged in again today. He is watching the thread.

This is what they always do. They come in and say something exciting, then, once they get everybody going, they stop posting and watch the chaos ensue. It's a pastime. Don't fall for the okey-doke.

Yes, you can be right, but you also can be wrong. As for his confidentiality agreement, maybe he re-thought it, or his IT department talked to his boss, and they had a heartfelt one on one.

We're both filling in a lot of unknown information with speculation that confirms our bias.

Since you've been "proven" right, how many um... points... err... dollars...errr...attaboys (or attagirls) have you earned, and what are you going to do with them?

Don't worry, I was an online warrior in the 80's, and I was proven right so many times, and know what I got from all of those victories?

Nothing.

So, from Wargames:

Stephen Falken: Did you ever play tic-tac-toe?
Jennifer: Yeah, of course.
Stephen Falken: But you don't anymore.
Jennifer: No.
Stephen Falken: Why?
Jennifer: Because it's a boring game. It's always a tie.
Stephen Falken: Exactly. There's no way to win. The game itself is pointless!

All I'm saying is you cannot say he lied because you don't know that, and if I were to guess, he does work in telecommunications and saw something that he thought indicated an April 14th launch but was simply wrong about it.

There's nothing to defend. He shared information he supposedly had. If he made it up then he was lying but we simply don't know.

You seem to care enough to constantly say he lied and make a big deal out of the fact that they got something wrong and aren't coming back to say what you already know. It's time to stop taking it personally. However he did say he would be man enough to come back and say he was wrong. And he said that having faced backlash in the thread so it's no real reason to stay away.

Same here. That's been the only real interesting part of all this speculation. For a month now it seems that the shipments are always 2-3 weeks away.
I wonder if the A10X would have been for this particular iPad, but Apple had a change of plans if they no longer want to use PowerVR graphics and will wait for the A11X with their own graphics?

Because it looked like people were accusing him of lying about there being an Apple event, and he didn't lie about that because he didn't say he knew for certain (basically having insider information), simply that he had information about iPad orders that indicated an April 14th launch.

But I then realized that he could be lying about the backstory (working in telecommunications and/or having information at all about orders). And we don't know that, so we can't say he was lying about anything.

You are simply engaging in a bit of revisionism. He DID claim that he had inside information and that there WILL be an announcement on the 14th. There was no tentativeness in his comments. He was certain.

You can defend him if you want to, but let's keep it real to what he actually said.

Here's just a few of his comments:

#1: I have come across some credible information which indicates that there will be an iPad launch on April 14th. Do not ask for my source or any proof I will not divulge that information as it will cause issues for me.
You can choose to believe it or not up to you and ultimately we will find out if its true in a couple of days.

#11: I work at a telco and we are preparing to have them available for order on the 14th

#23 : I'm looking forward to coming back to this thread once they are announced to see what the doubters have to say then. I can see their rationale behind having these doubts but ultimately I'm Just trying to do a nice thing here only to be **** on.

#35 : I totally get that but I'm not about to put my job at risk just to prove myself right now when the truth will be known soon. And really what proof can I provide that would make this a certainty? I can post product detail pages we are developing but then someone is bound to say they are fabricated and even they aren't it doesn't allude to the launch date. Ultimately it's up to readers to put different sources of information together to deem if this is true or not. I believe there are other posts in this thread which speak to this being a possibility.

#37 : I already stipulated that I understand the rationale for people who doubt this thread so clearly I knew going in there would be backslash I still did it so people making purchasing decisions had information therefore being nice has everything to do with it. I'm glad you have it bookmarked I look forward to your comments once the announcement is made.

I think it's possible we could see the A11X at this rate, given that the A11 is nearing release. That's what happened originally with the using the A9X in the iPad Pro rather than the A8X. But that could also indicate that they would move the release date to Fall.

It doesn't look like they will move away from PowerVR graphics so soon, maybe in the A12. I'm actually kind of disappointed given the PowerVR Furian announcement but hopefully their solution will outperform.

When I said insider information, I am of course referring to information from within Apple, meaning he could say for certain that there would be an event. If he did say that then he would be lying because it didn't happen.
I did keep it real to what he said:
he had information about iPad orders that indicated an April 14th launch.
Which is exactly what happened. You should have highlighted "indicated that", because he was not saying that he had information that said there was going to be an April 14th launch.

Preparing to have iPad models for order was the information that indicated the launch. Therefore the iPads could simply be existing models.
The rest of what you highlighted shows nothing other than the fact he was convinced that the information indicated an April 14th launch.

As for the "I can post product detail pages we are developing"...
that could indicate he was lying about the whole thing.

You're saying I am constantly saying that like I'm not just responding to your constant replies to me, saying he didn't lie. You care enough to reply each time lol. You engaged me. He lied.

You're literally the only one making a big deal out of anything. You keep insisting he didn't lie. I'm not even the only one who said that he was dishonest, I think I'm just the only one who said "lie".

"It's time to stop taking it personally"? Is that a response to me telling you it's time to get over it? ;)

The reason is he lied. It's time to stop lletting him make a fool out of you.

Today is April 19th.....why did you lie to people of MacRumors? I'm disappointed with you.

Why is this thread still alive? It was questionable when it started, it is useless now.

The rumor has long been proven false....

Some questions that you inspired (you don't have to answer them - but they did bring up good points):
Which Telco had a sale or new advertisement for iPads on April 14th?
As for "indicated," saying there "will be a launch on April 14th" is (semantics, here...) not 'indicating,' but affirmatively stating.
As @sracer documented so well, his downward spiral of clinging to his story, especially with us looking back doesn't bode well for him. With that documentation, I just wish he'd change his username, or come up with a new one. Something about the 4th Commandment comes to mind.

In his defense, making a username on June 30, 2016 and then starting a trolling thread is a bit of a long plan. Usually, that is done within a day.

Yeah I do because it doesn't take long to reply. As for an April 14th launch, it wouldn't make sense to say he lied about that, but he could have lied about working in telecommunications and/or having that information. There's also a possibility that he didn't lie, but you can't say for sure.
The fact he said he can show the product pages their working on does indicate that he's lying about it. Still, we don't know. All we know is that he was wrong. Dishonest? At this point, I think that's likely.

Alright but I think the fact he said indicated suggests uncertainty. For example if I said something the OP said indicated he that was lying. It doesn't mean i am saying that I know he is lying, but the better wording would be "indicated that he could be lying".
None that I know of, which is a bit suspicious but it may be a large reorder quantity?
At this stage there's no point looking into it in my opinion, we just need to wait for him to explain himself. And if he doesn't, he doesn't.
