Wow! Apple's competitors better bring their "A" game now. Otherwise it will really be game over for them in the tablet market.

its effectively iPad 2S.

Ipad one was revolutionary, the new iPad is not really a game changer, more of a really nice upgrade.

If someone comes to the market with something revolutionary could be interesting.

They won't though, hehe :D

... And Finland :p

Sour grapes? ;)
Nope, just clarifying things. ;) Toughboy was wondering how people in Greece could afford this, so I answered that the financial situation of the United States is worse (kudos to president Obama, by the way, for downplaying this so much and trying to get everybody's focus on Europe's financial situation instead of the USA's financial situation). And since people in the US don't have any problems buying iPads, so people in Greece definitely don't have any problems with buying iPads.

Well, the prices are too high for me in my country (Hungary -.-"). I think I'm going to get it from the USA, I just need to find a shop that is shipping to my country.

Prices in US are ex. VAT .. you'd have to pay tax, then claim it back and in return pay VAT in Hungary and probably import with VAT on the import (been there, done that - here in the UK) ...

If unlucky you might even pay more ...

Indeed. The Galaxy Tab Note 10.1 is also disappointing screen res-wise. No decent competitor on the horizon.

I found the idea of the Note interesting as a tablet, not as a phone. I prefer very small electronics when possible (one of the reasons I'm happy with the 3.5" iPhone).

However, I wish it had used the same screen technology as the 7.7. Those non-plus screens, if you turn the brightness down on a solid color, it looks like sand almost cause of the subpixels. Really bothered me on my friend's Galaxy Nexus.

Plenty of stock in Belgium

Well, three of my team today bought iPad3's in the shop of their choice - this was at lunchtime and this evening, plenty of stock.

I think it's the first launch of an iOS device where I've seen this situation.

And funny in the office - once word got around, a constant stream of people passing by to have a look. Incredible the hype they generated with these things.

I'm sticking with my iPad2 for the moment as I'm trying to be a good boy.

I did find the 3 feels very heavy and quite bulky after the 2... Screen is decent, but not quite as good at the iP4 IMO.

I thought there was a huge financial crisis in Greece??? Since when jobless-pennyless people afford electronic gizmos for 500-600 Euros?
I know you're trolling, but I will point out you overlook the myriad who don't pay anywhere near as much income tax as they're supposed to.

The Apple Online store does not have taxes included in the price because each state has its own taxes which vary from state to state. Also, many larger counties or cities, NYC, Chicago, etc can levy their own local taxes in addition.

It' not unusual to pay x% state + y% county + z% city taxes where x is larger ( small by most countries' standards ) and y and z are less than 1%

My sales tax here is 6.5% ( 6% if i move one mile down the road into another county ) but many times it is over 10% in major cities.
Here in Downstate New York (i.e., New York City and nearby counties), there's even a sliver of a percent added for the regional transit authority (the Metropolitan Transit Authority).

Over 10%? Can you name one such city? I haven't heard of any. I think a double-digit sales tax rate is a psychological line no politician is willing to cross. (The total sales tax rate in NYC is 8.875%, FYI.)

You point out that these different sales tax rates across the US are confusing, but that's not the half of it. Different products and services are taxed in different places! I think it's safe to say that every government that collects a sales tax taxes consumer electronics, though.

I rushed to Vasco da Gama Shopping Mall here in Lisbon and waited in line only 5 minutes yesterday while watching Game of Thrones :D
Today however it's a hole different story, big lines all around for the leftovers from yesterday...

No there is no money problem in Portugal :)

-> shipito.com - they'll ship stuff anywhere and you get to declare the official value too (for customs).

I am in the middle of setting up my account so not sure how well it will work. But I've heard only good things.

Anyone know when the "rest of the world" will follow?

I think Apple might have finally gotten a perfect system in place: 1-2 weeks shipping is good enough for most so that demand doesn't overheat and scalpers have no chance. And iPads in stores help that perception too. Clearly physical retail stores are getting priority treatment, or in any case, Apple's ensuring a steady supply for walk in customers while online orders are backed up.

Ok that and they're making more than ever...
