A new iPad mini coming by October will deliver a "major processor leap," according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Previous rumors have indicated that the next iPad mini will be equipped with an A19 Pro chip or an A20 Pro chip, up from the A17 Pro in the current 2024 model. Other rumored features include an OLED display, a vibration-based speaker system, and increased water resistance.

Don't think it's going above $700. Maybe $600 in line with the current gen (though unlikely).
They price the mini high traditionally because it's a business/POS product primarily. An OLED doesn't provide much benefit for business use (slightly better battery life maybe), so the value proposition to the target group doesn't change much.

These are largely separate markets, and not only due to price.

Gurman’s just making up stuff for attention these days. His lines were severed long ago but his livelihood depends on continuing to be relevant. So, he tosses out random stuff that any of us could guess and, with appletrack no longer being updated, there’s no public record of how much worse he’s been recently. (I’m sure ALL the leakers are glad they stopped updating. Now wonders why as they undoubtedly saw plenty of traffic to make the ad views worth it. Maybe since leaks these days are creative writing, it was a copyright strike? LOL)

Just checked, looks like they’ve removed all their old tracking data and went for the leaker grift! Gurman’s safe!

I put in another thread shortly after the price increases happened that I'm expecting $749. I'm sticking with that.

My main use case for this form factor is reading, and my Kindle ColorSoft does that really well.

At time of Kindle purchase, I actively considered an iPad mini. Unfortunately, it hadn't been updated for a while apart from upping the processor to meet the minimum requirements for Apple's AI implementation; it seemed like I would be paying full price for old tech.

With a beefier chip in there (i.e. no more than one generation behind the iPhone; current generation ideally) I would have looked at the scenario quite differently. In all likelihood I'd pick up an iPad mini in October if it came with at least an A19 Pro

I just want them to consolidate the product line(s). Like we're at this point where it's blatantly obvious that Apple is purposely gimping products solely to make the higher end versions more appealing. We don't need 6 different iPads (base, mini, Air in two sizes, Pro in two sizes) that all function in the exact same manner, despite the differences in hardware, imo.

It's just... messy. And 60Hz in 2026? No.

A20 pro probably Beats m4. I doubt the mini gets that chip though. It will probably get the a19 pro

If the 60Hz rumor is true, definitely not.

I think it's likely just going to be an A19 Pro, which is a good step over the A17 Pro.

If it got a M series chip I'd be shocked, but it would likely also not be as amazing as it sounds on paper. We'd end up with an iPhone Air situation... the nicer chip is in there, but the thermal headroom of the device wouldn't allow it to run to it's full potential.

Apple 🍎 may just push the iPad mini release to Spring 2027 since it’s not a pro device.

It will have an A19 or A20. Its not earthshattering. Apple loves to short change the iPad Mini. Always expect to be disappointed.
