FINALLY! I just bought one last July…. All used up now. But if it doesn’t outprice and outpace the new M4 MBP, I don’t want it. Unless it folds…. If it folds, I’m in…. But I won’t pay less than $3k for that.

They should seriously fire 90% of people who work in ipad department. SERiously?? what the f is going on?? Do you really think you can continue to just chug along same **** every year w/ incremental update ??? no thank you.... I will continue to let my old ass ipad run along w/ me till they give me something awesome for a change.. what the hell

It's more related to Mac than iPad but : I am glad they're able to update their products on a yearly basis with Apple Silicon M-series chips. Just upgrade the chip and boom.

That shows a strong roadmap coming up, unlike what Intel had to offer back in the days.

I don't know why some people are whining - it's not like they have to upgrade their iPad if a new one is out. These things work for 7-10 years.

If you want a folding tablet, can I politely suggest checking the website of Fisher-Price, they have devices for people like you. Something like this, perhaps.

I've put my money where my mouth is, and generously fund a number of powerful lobbying groups that are making sure that Apple never, ever release a folding tablet *or* phone. Ever.

I am in hopes that they increase the refresh rate of the display as it is not great for those of us who are PWM sensitive.

Probably the most unnecessary and pointless Apple update one could think of

Is Apple ok?

Absolutely no iPad Pro user needs an updated model ... they are all hilariously overpowered given the usages and constraints of iPadOS
Yep not needed. However it seems Apple going forward is going to use the iPad Pros as sort of a test bed for new chip ramp ups.

Apple have always had limited R&D and Engineering resources, so to see it somewhat "wasted" on updates that are completely unnecessary at this time.... is frustrating
I think the other scenario is for them to wait 2 years and make a more compelling update.
I'd rather have them update the chip every year, even if nothing else is new.

Chips are more important nowadays than they were 2-3 years ago though - because of Apple Intelligence. I think they'll want to enable the upcoming features on as many devices as possible - and they've always been cheap on memory.

Uh, wut?

Apple Inc. spent a record 31.4 billion U.S. dollars on research and development in its 2024 fiscal year, increasing by about 1.5 billion from its 2023 total.

I feel like at this point if the iPad Air only supported FaceID there would be no reason for most people (like myself) to want the Pro model. I have the 13 inch M4 Pro and my wife has the 13 inch M2 Air. I look at her Air and the only reason I bought the Pro was for the new Magic Keyboard and for FaceID.

The very definition of totally artificial product segmentation

I have a maxed out m2 iPad Pro, so clearly no need to update anytime soon. I will say it irked me that the updated keyboard case with function keys isn’t compatible with my model. I also expected bigger iOS advancements than what has been offered thus far. It remains a great media consumption device, and fairly great art tablet, but not much more.

Seriously, just bought one for Christmas. This is ridiculous, can I have a device for at least 1 - 2 years before a new one. No one needs a new iPad every year.
Exactly - No one needs a new iPad every year. Including you. You just bought one, so be happy with it. You dont need a new one for a long, long time.

Yearly upgrades are great because this allows users to have current, competitive hardware anytime they want or need to make a purchase. No more long unpredictable cycle times. It makes planning, budgeting, and knowing what's coming much easier. This is a win-win-win for everyone except for people whose ego requires them to somehow have the latest thing to show off as a status symbol.

The reason Apple releases every year (or so) is because of people who want or need to update older devices. Since you just purchased, Apple releasing another model should be irrelevant to you. Not sure why you are complaining.
This is a very overlooked point for pretty much all devices. Every tech industry is the same. TV's, audio, cars etc etc. Each years new model isn't aimed at last years purchasers, it's looking at those with old devices. Having a generational update every year is unrealistic. Yearly spec bumps are for those with older devices or people who just want to be on the cutting edge. You can't have it both ways year on year.
