Speaking as one that has had 3 different 12.9” iPads bend.... though I’ve owned many many other iPads of other sizes over the years, with no issues- I absolutely wholeheartedly welcome a thicker/sturdier 12.9” iPad.
Thicker doesn’t equate to sturdier though. I would imagine the new ones to be just as “sturdy” as the older ones. Which would likely mean a bent iPad Pro for you if you bought it.

With COVID-19 there won’t be any traveling in my short or medium term future but I’ll hang onto it because the resale value is next to nothing now so why not keep it?
If you’re into HomeKit, you could make a cool house/media controller, and just mount it to the wall with a charger :)

If hadn't bought the M1, I would be tempted to get the next iPad Pro. As it stands, the M1 is now the workhorse and the 2020 iPad Pro is still doing everything well just like day one.

I am looking forward to seeing what Apple comes up with.

Apple should continue to refine iPadOS to see if they can make productivity workflows easier without a keyboard and mouse. I'm using Siri much more for dictation now and avoiding the use of the virtual keyboard on the iPad and it just makes more sense especially if you are not in a public setting. Why type when you can just dictate?
Post keyboard/pointer workflows haven't taken off in productivity applications. Touch is not efficient for
more complex tasks like...cut and paste? And no, full photoshop is never coming to the iPad. But
keyboard shortcuts are coming to IOS art apps. It's been 10 years, get over it.

when it gets to being a 12.9" iPad you hold in your hand and that is already heavier than a 13" MBP once you attach a keyboard, yea... sorry... I disagree. Lighter is better
That's because the iPad keyboard needs a counterweight in it because all the electronics and battery are behind the screen instead of behind the keyboard.

I think thickness is more noticable for a phone because you put it in your pocket. It's a more intimate device because you wear it on your person, but a tablet not so much.
...Apple company LATELY must be running by certain demographic people..you know..
Wait, what? Is this a race comment?
I don't think anyone would notice if it's .5 mm thicker...
Yeah, I agree.
😂. .5 mm has people concerned. Wow.
I get your sentiment, but what...are you trying to shame people who disagree with you?
Do you happen to put it in your bag full of books/heavy stuff that pressures it when in your back? Because I can't think any other"normal usage" way to bend that aluminum
I do wonder how one would bend an iPad. At all.
...the new air bends just as easily as...
So we're doing air bending now, awesome! 😎

Thicker? How would it fit the Magic Keyboard? Sometimes these rumors make no sense..
I don't think .5mm is going to adversely affect it, assuming there aren't other changes that make it incompatible. I looked at my MK and there is enough flex at the hinge that I think the MK can easily handle such a small change.

Having had most iPads since the first one I’m fine with sticking with my Pro 11” for a while longer before upgrading. Zero need to yet.

.5mm isn’t that much in the actual real world (as opposed to the world of Apple and Samsung designers). It could still be within margins and fit.

This new iPad Pro is going have extraordinary performance, at least 8GB RAM, the best display Apple has ever put in any iOS device, unrivalled 5G speeds, and tons of other delicate touches that will give us the most amazing tablet Apple has ever made.

Am I excited? You bet I am.
I don't think the price will be exciting. I would be surprised if Apple kept the pricing the same. Some of the rumored specs are appealing. Will be interesting to watch reveals.

I was thinking about waiting another year but my grandpa has a 4th generation iPad that is failing and terrible. He has to rotate it to type things as there are dead spots on the capacitive touch layer. It’s also becoming harder for him to see things on that smaller display. I’m thinking about giving him my 3rd gen iPad Pro 12.9 and he can use display zoom and max out the text size slider and have a nice device that would last him a long time. Either that or I’ll buy him a new iPad for his birthday. But this is a good excuse to upgrade, lol. I’ve been helping him today try to fix all of his devices as he got his first iPhone recently (iPhone 7) and getting his Messages working between that, the iPad, and my 2012 Retina MacBook Pro I gave him a couple years ago. The iPad is so sad. The home button is like popped inside the casing and can barely be pressed too. And it’s so freaking slow and on iOS 10.

I'm seriously thinking about getting the iPad Pro 2020 for photo editing purposes (among other social purposes).
I own a 16" MacBook Pro 2020 but I'd like an extension so I can continue my work on the go.
Seeing a new iPad arriving tentatively in March, would you guys recommend for me to wait or go get the current model anyways?

To be fair, Apple shot themselves in the foot on the iPhone mini by not realising that that market consists of long-cycle upgraders that product-starved recently went for the SE instead.

As far as an iPad Pro Mini… I NEEEEEEDS IT!!

Seriously, my MBP16 is amazing, and if I'm doing that whole nerdy wannabe IT-ronin programming at a café-thing you wouldn't catch me without both the MBP16 and an iPad (sidecar); but when all I need to do is write an important email, then I'm currently hyperfocusing with just my iPhone (curse you newfangled picture-in-picture!!) and a foldable bluetooth keyboard.

The iPad Mini would have that perfect size for me where I get a slightly bigger display, and yet it doesn't take up any more room than any pocket or mini-bag that currently could hold an iPhone Max can handle.

That slightly bigger display would be absolutely noticeable, and very welcome; but not at the cost of giving up security, or having to use Touch ID every damn time I've spent a few seconds too long without typing.

The only reason why I would buy a future foldable iPhone would be if that's the only way for me to get something that approximates an iPad Pro Mini; but, preferably I would of course rather have a pair of Apple Glass with every app running in a virtual window. *insert Tom Cruise Minority Report-gif*
I respect personal needs. The tone about the "perfect phone" at Macforum has as usual been smug and self-absorbed "I am a Pro and I want a mini, ergo the mini is the perfect size". I doubt the a mini Pro will sell well. Likewise , I like a 15-16 inch iPad Pro for the desk but I doubt that will happen.

Agreed. I had read that mini LED panels would be thinner & use less power.
That hasn't really borne out in mini-LED. Or rather, less power compared to traditional LED or FALD LCD screens with comparable brightness. Mini LED is really just FALD LCD with smaller LED backlights, but not small enough to lose the polarizers and color filters so you still have all the layers and inefficiency of a non-emissive LCD screen.

Happy to be wrong, but I don't think—when it comes to mobile devices—mini-LED will be the great bridge-the-gap to micro-LED it was hyped to be.
