It's crazy that Apple didn't want to blow another .15 and make the front-facing camera 1080p. I mean, it's 2020.

Tim needs that .15 for his stock buybacks though. And given the whole virus situation, I'd expect Cupertino's innovation drip tube to dry up for a while.

Couple of changes I think are overdue:
1) Front facing, harder to block with your hands speakers
2) Better positioned FaceID that’s also harder to block with your hands. In one of the long edges would seem sensible.

Another USB port, on a long edge, wouldn’t go amiss either.

Perhaps, you're new to how Tim Cook operates. He is tighter than a cats' meow, and it's not technically oriented. Kidding aside, I have no idea why they decided not to implement 1080, although I'm sure cost had something to do with it.

Sad. The Mac platform has been getting sloppy seconds from the iOS side for years now, both in terms of hardware and software. Why isn't there cellular modem in a MacBook? Why is MacOS still riddled with bugs and rough edges and features that aren't even keeping up with iOS?

They're probably paying more for 720p CMOS, because nobody actually uses them anymore. Even WyzeCams are 1080p.

Maybe they bought 5 million of them and they need to burn their inventory? It's a mystery.

I suspect the reason they are using these components its because its likely left over inventory that they want to clear out.

Perversely reassuring to see that in these unprecedented strange times, Tim Apple sticks to the tried and trusted policy of nickel ‘n’ diming on embarrassingly outdated components.

I’m shocked but not surprised they’ve yet again failed to upgrade the one important and negligible cost upgrade. Would love to know just how big the surplus of those 720p webcam modules are stockpiled alongside their toilet rolls and hand sanitizer.

I mean FFS, that’s the same resolution as the front camera on iPhone 5 from 2012.

An i3 Mac, wow, how times has change. This will be super duper slow with next year macOS
Next year’s? 😬 Think you’re being generous there.

We’re talking 12” MacBook levels of slow, there’ll be rainbow beachballs all over the place.

My work Lenovo L390 only has a 720p HD camera - not sure why everyone gets upset about it to be honest. Quality is normally dependent on the network for most calls anyway.

We just bought my brother a MacBook Air 13” yesterday before the new release. Should we return this for the new one? The current model now starts with i3 and can be optioned to an i5. But the processor on the previous generation still seems faster. Please correct me if I’m wrong, is this new version an upgrade?

I can't answer the question as to which one is better. But if the new version is in fact better, you should absolutely exchange the one you just bought for the newer model.

And don't feel bad about. Apple will just take the one you return and sell it as a refurb. So it is a win for you, a win for Apple and a win for the planet. :)

Agreed. Most of the people capturing video will find 128gb storage unusable on iPhone especially Apple is touting its camera capability.

While I hope Apple does increase base storage to 128 GB, I think it unlikely they will do it this year. Looking through used phones on Swappa it appears most people are able to survive on just 64 GB. If Apple were to move their base storage up to 128 GB they would lose a very lucrative upsell.

Do you get these fancy new mouse cursor support with any ordinary mouse you use the 13.4 or is only with the new trackpad keyboard?

...or why both MacBook models, especially the Pro still has a 720p webcam in the year 2020?

Higher resolution camera means higher bandwidth requirements for videoconferencing. These devices are supposed to be portable. If someone is using them as intended, there is a good chance they will be in a location where bandwidth is an issue, and if they are using 720p, the chance of a call being broken up is less. If you are using a laptop as a static device to videoconference from home, by all means you should set up a docking area with a better camera. This seems like a good trade-off for a laptop-- slightly lower video quality in exchange for improved mobility.

Why do they keep putting older slower wifi on the laptops. If they did 4x4 MU-MIMO wifi 6 it would be blazing fast and up to date for a while
