There is a lot of Design and Engineering changes in the new iPads, from what Steve Jobs demanded in how tough the iPads had to be. Also batteries are thiner and more powerful today then back then. Are the new iPads as tough as the early iPads? I don't think so.is it a deal killer i don't think so.
Mr. Jobs did not want the iPad Mini and he did not want a bigger iPad as the Pro is today.
Times have changed people wanted smaller iPads and bigger iPads.also thiner iPhones and larger thin iPhones.
Mr.Jobs would never had allowed the non metal iPhones.now today they are gone.
In my hands i felt the new iPad Pro had less weight then my iPad4.

Indeed, less weighty but maybe not as bulletproof as my earlier iPads. And even in an otter box case, my iPad 4 has hairline cracks after 3 years--probably stepped on by a small child.

I don't know that I would have bought the IPP if the AppleCare plus weren't so reasonable at $79 on sale.

That said, the device is utterly gorgeous, exceeds all expectations, really. I'm ok with the trade off.

LOL. The iPad 3 comparison. It was the first retina iPad and a lot better buy than what people say. Actually, it had way more of current technology by release than iPad Pro. I bet when iPad pro 2 is released, the flaws of iPad pro will make it the buyers remorse pad.

It is heavy, charges slow with full charge error, does not have current Touch ID technology, can't charge while in use with much brightness/load, has no pro apps yet, has no relevant apps updated to support the larger screen, has super bad accessories and is very underpowered for a pro device.

Multitasking is hideous also.

I thought the 3 did not have the retina screen and quickly after the 3 was selling,Apple had the 4 selling with the retina screen, and many were highly unhappy.
correct me if i am wrong.

Nope. It had the retina screen. People complained about the charging 30-pin which was changed to lightning. And unsurprisingly iPad 3 had a performance hit because of the solution. But still a very good buy as it today shows the same great resolution as iPad Air 2

Many people make this comment. But most don't think a 13" MacBook is "too huge" to carry around. The iPP is actually smaller than the 13" MBA/MBP.
I think the class of device comes into play. I can't speak for everyone, but my expectation for how tablets are transported is by hand with no bag. I do this with both my mini 4 and air 2. But I didn't want to do it with the pro when I had it, it seemed a bit obnoxious to me (then again I didn't have any case at that time). For any MacBook, my expectations are that a bag is needed. So I tend to compare the iPad pros portability to the other iPads and not the MacBooks. But you're right, it's technically no less portable than an mba

Just got mine from Verizon yesterday, 72% charged and iOS 9.2. Loving it so far! Really wish they would let a backup of your iPhone restore its iMessages onto the iPad, cannot understand why this is not possible.

Where is everyone going for the best wallpaper selection for IPP?

iPad 3 did have retina screen. The complaint was its processor and/or RAM was a bit underpowered to drive the retina screen.

For those of you with the iPad Pro, what iPad did you have before? I have a first gen iPad (yep!) and a first gen iPad Mini. I've seen it in the Apple Store (very briefly) but I'm curious what people think coming from different iPad models.

I am considering the Pro almost exclusively for reading sheet music on the piano and some web browsing. The mini is TOO small, and my first gen iPad cannot be upgraded past 5.1.1! iOS 5 feels really, really ancient, by the way...

Strictly speaking no iPad for me. But I had the first generation of the MS Surface Pro, my need was just simply able to read journal and PDF books on it, and maybe take notes. MS Surface pro wasn't bad, however the size wasn't right (I knew that going in, but there was nothing else batter). I thought about getting the Surface Pro 4 after it was announced, but I don't like the aspect ratio, and after using Windows on the Surface Pro, I didn't have very good user experience.

Regarding the iMessage, what I noticed is that they are sync. For example, if you and John was already having conversation on your iPhone, when you go to your newly setup iPad Pro you will see nothing, but as soon as you start a conversation with John you will see that the previous conversation are populated and load into your iPad Pro.

Thanks!

I'm about to jump. It would be sweet to have that big screen sitting on the music stand. I'll post photos... :)
Just compared iPad pro with Smart Cover in left hand to ipad1 in Apple's black case and the iPad 1 felt heavier. I think it may be due to the denser feel of the iPad 1 since it's about the same weight as the iPad pro but in a smaller (L & W) form factor. I was surprised, since they weigh roughly the same amount.

I don't really get all the hate on the forums for the IPP. It's technically a first gen device and it's pretty damn good. I personally don't understand how people say it's so large and heavy. It's lighter than a 13" MBP which most say is very portable.

I don't get how people say it's heavy. It's like a pound. For an almost 13" device. Unless batteries at some point get super lightweight, how do people expect to get long lasting battery life and expect the device to be like 6 ounces. I guess I just don't get it.

I get being disappointed by not having the 3D Touch and the 2nd gen TouchID, but both of these items to me aren't very important. I don't think the TouchID first gen is slow at all. It takes a second to log in. The 3D Touch to me is gimmicky anyway. It's not a bad feature, but not groundbreaking to me. My wife has a iPhone 6s Plus and the 3D Touch never gets used. After using it so far, it's a little finicky and by the time I hold in the app, I could be in the app already executing the command that I was looking for. I'm not making excuses for Apple - these are items that could've been implemented, but it's not a deal breaker.

I find my IPP to be blazing fast, gets excellent battery life, great screen. The limitations for me are with the apps and iOS itself as most have said. But I do think it's a work in progress. And it will get better, I hope. But to say this is an inferior product is just ridiculous. And I'm not even an Apple fanboy. I just appreciate good products. This is a good product.

It's not for everyone. Especially the size. I get why some really like the 9.7" screen. I just personally prefer the larger one. I get more done on it. But with more time, I'm hoping the OS and apps will mature to get even more use. Will the hardware get better? Of course it will. At some point, how much better can a screen get? How much faster can it get? As apps demand more power, it will require better hardware which makes sense. For now, I know I can get three years out of this product...same as a laptop. It can't replace a laptop, but for me, it replaces 97%.

Sorry for the long post. I just think there are people who can never be satisfied. I understand why people may not feel this product isn't revolutionary. That's because it's not. But it's hard to re-invent anything at this point. I just hope the people who have the product are happy.

I think the store model I played with was zoomed in or something. Everything was comically big, like 72 point font for CNN headlines in the News app.

Agree, selective reading is your best friend. I just read whatever I like and skip over everything else.

That is the way it works on my MacBook Pro, it syncs iMessage conversations it misses when I turn it on, but with the newly setup IPP it does not work this way for me. No iMessage history with resumed conversations. Is this a setting somewhere to accomplish?

I watched in the store twice and am really torn.. on the one hand I really like the size, and if I see the ipad air next to it, this feels like an ipad mini suddenly :D

But then again it's huge to carry around I think. I'm really curious about how you feel about the size.

The pencil is just plain AWESOME.

I actually have iPad mini originally, that was just right size for me, and thought all other iPads were too big to carry around, thought I rather carry my MacBook Pro instead of those big other iPads since MacBook Pro is much more useful. But, arrival of iPad Pro changed my mind when it came out with Apple Pencil.

So, I was thinking like you. I hesitated until very last minute to make reservation just because I wasn't sure how much it fits my need and if it worth to pay for that much money which you can almost buy most lowest price laptop by Apple.

What changed my mind?
Apple Pencil.

iPad Pro is not for everyone in my opinion. But has strong reason to buy for artists who loves to draw and paint on tablet.
Yes it's huge, but right and nice size as drawing tablet. You don't need to pinch and spread to change paper size during you drawing. And with Apple Pencil, it's like my dream came true. Now I can really do hand drawing with Apple Pencil on iPad Pro without any stress, no time delay for input, no irritation.
Before I was using Adobe Illustrator to create my art works on MacBook Pro and on iPad mini, but when I want to do hand drawing digitally, I never had enough good experience to do it comfortably and stress free either on iPad mini or Wacom tablet. So what I had to do was, draw by hand on papers, take pictures of them or scan them to make them available as digital form. I no longer need to do it because I can draw on iPad Pro with Apple Pencil like I draw on papers by my hand.
Good thing is, iOS has so many great apps too. Now I have another app I can draw by using paths like Mac OS Adobe Illustrator. Plenty of great photograph editing apps, some good video editing apps are available for iOS.
Now I no longer need to bring MacBook Pro around instead of when I make music.

My conclusion ; it was right choice to have iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. It worth to pay that expense to me. iPad Pro isn't perfect replacement of desktop/laptop for everyone, but it was for me, for carrying around. Huge but light and thin. I use it as my mobile digital sketchbook almost daily. There is another forum for iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, people posting their artworks there, it's simply awesome to see what people can create with that combination.

I'm surprised that most of the argument are still circled around artist or the need for Apple pencil to make this a useful device. As an engineer/researcher, I read tons of journal paper as well as PDF books or even work related operation manuals, I find the iPad Pro extremely useful when it comes to reading simply because no iPad before this can display a US letter size without some sort of page size adjustment. Now I can simply store all my materials on the iPad/or cloud and read them on the go or from place to place without having to drag bunch stuff with me.

Am I the only one that just likes using it as a big iPad without some bs justification like "I need it for work" or "because I'm an artist" or something? It doesn't even feel the big to me anymore

Christmas is practically here. Go open it and report back!

This thing is INCREDIBLE. SERIOUSLY.

I only used my rMBP once to update iTunes billing. I love this so much.

Downloaded a whole bunch of education apps and just been browsing. Tried to get back to it every chance I could between family festivities.

The speakers are just A+ and shocked the HELL out of me. I just gotta get used to typing on this…hopefully my pencil arrives soon though lol.

Very VERY shocked and pleased.

I don't use it for work. I just like having a device to do most basic net stuff on the couch. I'm no artist.. Its purely for playing around. And as for durability, I think it's fine.

Ina's an iPad 3 and thought it was fine too. My ex wife still uses her on a daily basis and is happy with it.

I can see getting a keyboard case for it eventually. Touch typing on the screen just doesn't work well.

The iPad Pro is a beast of a machine. It is way ahead of its time. For now, it is just a huge, super fast tablet that seamlessly scrolls between tasks. It is a magical workspace for your fingers. Within the next six months, I can see the iPad Pro becoming a great laptop replacement. The biggest drawback is that it is a bit flimsy and clumsy. It doesn't fit as elegantly in a bag as a MacBook. Also, Apple really screwed up with the Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil roll out. I am carrying it around in its original box while I wait to get a keyboard and case for it. I feel like if they had coordinated the release of the iPad Pro with all of its necessary extras then they could have made this an immediate home run. Better yet, they should have sold the iPad Pro and the Keyboard together.

So far, I have mostly been using it to record, edit, and upload videos. It is amazing for that. I watch a lot of movies on it and love the speakers, the huge screen, the long battery life, and the zippy connection.

Better yet, they should have sold the iPad Pro and the Keyboard together.

Not everyone needs the leyboard. For instance, I'd rather use my iPad Pro with a Bluetooth keyboard. Other people might prefer the Logitech or other third-party keyboard case. By selling the keyboard separately, Apple leaves people the choice to pick a keyboard that fits their needs/preference, or even to not get a keyboard at all.

I was initially unsure about a keyboard. I think I want one now, but the reviews of the Smart Keyboard have been so poor I don't think I'll be getting one of those. The Logitech one is too bulky too, so for the time being, I dunno what I'll do. I'm in no hurry for one, but it'll be nice to have eventually.

I showed mine off to family and friends over the last 3 days and everyone loved it, especially the Pencil. And the quick charging that the tech media mocked...everyone I showed it to thought it was the coolest thing ever. It all just reaffirmed my decision to no longer use tech reviews when deciding whether to buy a product or not.
