My guess is that eventually all iPads and iPhone+ will get pencil support!
Let's hope the mini gets a super upgrade. It is my favorite, handy sized iPad. I would gladly pay more for a spec bumped mini. Great size!!

Apple's bone-headed decision to put an A5 into the mini has, from what I can see, had a horrible effect. My wife is constantly complaining about the lack of speed and glitches. Does she want another iPad? Yes but the mini hasn't inspired confidence in the product line for her. I can't complain my iPad 2 with an A5 is dreadfully slow as well.

You should see craigslist or other sites and the legions of people trying to sell their A5 minis off while they have a shred of value.

These things are from 2011.... Seriously, what else from 2011 has any value?
BTW, I'm using a Ipad 2 on 9.3.5 and the only thing that's slow is browsing and that's because web sites have become a bloated mess, everything else is still fine.

The iPad Mini has been the most popular iPad. The Mini 4 had everything and was looking like a two-year model but now we have the Pencil and Truetone Display, which are must-haves and so I really hope they happen this year.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. There's not enough size differential between the 9.7 and the 10.5 to justify that.

The 9.7 would be the "low price" (for Apple) option - perhaps the entry-level model if they discontinue the iPad Mini.

The 10.5 would become the new "mainstream" model (what the 9.7 is now) and the 12.9 anchors the high end.

I'd really love to see newly updated iPad Mini's too. Though I'm not going to hold my breath for one at this point. :(

I was just discussing the future of the Mini on another thread with other forum members.

I honestly think the Mini's days are numbered. Unless Apple can introduce something to draw the audience in, I.e. Pro features, Maybe 3D Touch, ect. And these larger iPhones or 'Phablets' have gouged into the Mini, being consumers are more invested into their 5.5 iPhone 6/6s Plus.

The Mini as is now if mainly an entertainment device and for smaller tasks. Apple is heavily leaning towards the Pro line and I don't feel the Mini will be supportive of this. Even with the Mini 4, Apple only did a Spec bump at most with it.

The Mini and iPod Touch are slowly fading. Even though they both are great products.

At least they're acknowledging that the current ipad pro has a slow display. Think OLED..

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said Apple would release a 10.5-inch iPad Pro model next year alongside a 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2 and a "low-cost" 9.7-inch iPad model. The fate of the iPad mini remains uncertain, but it is presumable that Apple could discontinue the 7.9-inch tablet due to its lack of Apple Pencil support and relatively close proximity in size to 5.5-inch Plus-sized iPhones.

That is some twisted logic there. Make a 12.9 model, as well as one that is 2.4" smaller, followed by one that is .8" smaller than the middle model but discontinue the 7.9" model because it's "relatively close" (2") to the iPhone Plus' size?

Honest, as an iPad user, seems smarter to either make 10.5 OR 9.7 the mid model. Leave the Mini. Not everyone has/wants a iPhone Plus or a bigger screen iPad.

As a medical student who currently uses the rMini 2 + an Adonit Pixel, I would really love to see an updated iPad Mini with Apple Pencil support. Nothing beats the size of the mini (which easily fits in a white coat pocket), and the Apple Pencil would really make note-taking amazing.

Hoping next generation has 3D touch and rich interface (iWork, etc.) which will allow for good productivity on iPad. Lots of missed opportunities without an amazing software and hardware solution here.

Waiting for Apple to give in to consumer demand and make a real Pro pen based tablet convertible running MacOS.

Didn't Steve Jobs once infamously say: "Nobody needs a stylus." & "If your product needs a stylus, it's already failed."

Or as fanboys ambiguously say it: It's a stupid idea until Apple adopts it & catches on w/in the ecosystem, then it's "innovation", even though well used by competitors.

Nes pas?

Yes annotating photos and objects is essential and should definitely be added to photos and notes at the very least. Currently the only option is to use third party app or attach photo to mail and use markup to annotate.

I have a ipad mini 2 and an iphone 6 plus
I don't get how anyone could say they were similar in size or function
and I don't need a pencil - I already have a stylus that I don't use

I'm astonished at how my MBA has kept up. It's time to replace but man has it been a workhorse for me.

You know I always felt like my iPad 2 may have just been a bit of a lemon. I had the first generation iPad and my iPad 2 just felt like it was unstable from the start.

That being said I agree with some of the people in this thread. The iPad is perhaps bit too limited from the OS POV. I don't know how Apple is going to do it but they need to vastly improve how we can build personal workflows that move data across many apps.

New Hardware? Great, maybe they'll put an Intel processor in this thing and make it useful. Slot for a micro-sd card would be a nice touch too.
