You do realize you can see the auto screen lock on an iPad to 15 minutes.
You do realize that doesn’t achieve anything close to what always-on achieves? I don’t want my password required every 15 minutes. I DO want to see my wallpaper, widgets, time, date, notifications without waking anything. That would be achieved by always-on display…and I wouldn’t have to compromise the security of my device by stretching the password requirement to 15 minutes.

Nope. I like my monitor to go into stand by and save me power. I have pictures in frames around my home for the family that require zero power and a watch that tells the time. That is if I'm not near the half dozen clocks and electrical devices around my home or office that have the time displayed as well. Do you need a photo frame and clock that sets you back four figures?
I already have my iPad. Does your photo frame and clocks send you all your notifications? Why are some of you so annoyed by this? I like always-on for its benefits, akin to why I like it for iPhone. Sorry!

My 14 Pro Max has been fine for the past 18 months, but then I guess this new Tandem OLED could prove more of a risk??
Tandem OLED reduces the risk of burn in. An OLED pixel dissipates power and if you drive a pixel hard to get more light output it causes the pixel to dissipate more heat. The heat causes damage to the organic molecules that make up the OLED pixel which cause the light emission properties to change. This is what causes "burn in". Apple uses Tandem OLED to increase the light output by increasing the number of pixels instead of increasing the amount of power to drive each pixel.

Always on dims the display considerably which reduces the power dissipation and avoids burn in.

If you set your wallpaper to, lets say your family pictures or favorites or whatever, it would be like a shuffling photo frame all day long when not used. Could be nice...
It’s possible to set it so the display never goes to sleep, plug it in, and use it as an always-on picture frame already. Unless I’m mistaken?

I’ve never seen an iPad used like that though. And an Alexa device or something of that sort is more designed for this use case. I remember when you could buy cheap digital picture frames in stores but they seemed like garbage NGL.
