I hope they're wrong about "last minute design changes" even if we don't get an SD card port it'd be stupid to at the last minute half ass some things. not their style.

I agree.
If thats true, id rather wait another month for them to get it correct.
Steve is still calling the shots, so i don't think he'd push this out unfinished!

I wonder how all those folks here who sold their iPads will feel if the iPad 2 is indeed a small incremental update

I mean most probably sold it for less then what it's worth and will now spend more for a minor update

Did anyone realistically expect an SD card slot? Totally not Apple's style (referring to handhelds obviously) Like McDonald's they eke profits out of the small-medium-large options; letting you roll your own storage is unlikely. As with any rumors, Engadget is talking out of their butts or their "source" is misleading them.

what do you think the likelihood their will be an ipad 3 in the fall. I am upset this wont have better screen res. It would suck to buy this and a huge updated version comes out 6 months later. This is more like iPad 1GS then an iPad 2. If the production issues are true I rather them take their time and come out with the better screen res version in the fall and skip this rushed version.

Also how much of a price drop do you think the 1st gen ipad will get when this comes out?

The thing is going to be a good upgrade. people always just have such high (see: unrealistic) expectations for everything. The iPad is more like a computer than a phone. You shouldn't need to update every year. Can you imagine buying a new mbp every year? Or expecting each mbp update to have such a laundry list of new features?

Just buy an iPad, be happy, and buy an upgrade in like 3 years. 3 year product cycle is what I'm looking at, possibly 2 year if I am really impressed (considering they are relatively inexepensive)

I have never understood why everybody is so crazy about a retina display. I honestly couldn't care either way. Yeah I guess a retina display would be better, but certainly not at the price of other features, cost, build quality, etc. There is a lot more out there that I would like.

You def bring up good points. I just find it frustrating that this model is based on manufacturing issues and not what apple planned. I am on a tight budget so this will be my tablet for a few years. I was thinking about the wifi xoom, but i just seems like the apps/games are so far behind apple and I am looking forward to gaming on my tablet.

oh I'd say a 0.34295920594245 chance. give or take

oh don't you know, apple will give out first gens for free! ;)

I know it is easy to think ppl here know everything, but honestly your guess is just as good as any person here on this forum. the iPad is a first gen product, there is no precedent. some apple products disappear after a refresh, some have a discount. That's all anyone can say with any certainty. If you want a joe schmoe's opinion like myself I'm guessing they will sell iPads at a $100 discount from iPad 2 announcment to launch day. Then the original iPads will disappear.

I think I can speak for most of them when I say we are just fine with having a faster, lighter, thinner, non glare iPad and can't wait to show it off . Most of the stuff I buy I try to keep for a long time but Apple's little toys are my guilty pleasure and I get a lot of pleasure in the whole update/rumor cycles and the implied geek status of having the latest one. so there!

if the iPad 2 is indeed a small incremental update

Let's supposed a notebook doubles the number of core, gets a new improved CPU architecture, a GPU that's more than twice the speed and double the memory amount. On top of those, the notebook also gets a smaller, lighter shell and an improved screen. Is that really a "small incremental update?"

The only reason the update seems insignificant is that everything was expected through various rumours. It's an update in line with expectation without much shock value, but by no means a "small" one.

The iPad stands at the top of the heap right now. A processor bump, lighter, and a memory bump are just perfect. No need to try to reinvent the wheel when you created the wheel. Just improve it. This is why apple has been successful in the mobile department. They created something that was great from the first go and have improved upon it through the years.

What we need now from a apple users standpoint is a iOS upgrade. Hardware, a slight bump in specs is great. Apple has always shown that horsepower means nothing when you can't put it to the ground.

I am more exited over iOS 5, I want to see what they can possibly add. Because apple likes the way it is set up currently. As for iPad we have a general idea, but I hope there are some surprises.

OK but don't you have to call a me.com address and then it pushes an email to the other person that you want to establish a connection? Sounds a bit awkward. I don't see using it a lot if at all but that's just me.

Facetime is an application for a specific device. You register your device via an email address (The iPhone4 is the only Apple Device that registers the device via a Phone #).

Once the device is "registered," it is set to receive a Facetime call anytime it is connected to WiFi. You do not get an email, you get a popup ring (just like a phone call), that states, "Joe Blow wants to facetime." You then either accept the call, or decline the call. If you accept the call, it instantly connects you.

I have Facetime installed on my Mac and an iTouch4. If you have multiple devices and register them with the same email address, all those devices will ring at the same time if someone Facetime's you. This is good if you have a laptop at home, but an iPad/iTouch at work, etc.

Also, all my devices are registered with a gmail address. You do not need a me.com address. Any valid email address will work. All it does is register your device with Apple's servers.
