Thanks for all the input. It seems the new iPad s a worthy upgrade to the iPad1.

All the usual adjectives from me also - smooth and responsive even with many open apps. The Retina screen is great when viewing HD movies, etc.

The only edge my iPad 1 has over my iPad 3 example is the 1's screen is more evenly illuminated. The 3's screen has "just noticeable" less brightness on the extreme left side in landscape mode (not noticeable unless looking at more monotone material).

It's a huge difference. The main thing I was very tired of was safari crashing. It was to the point of annoyance in ios 5.

Same pages I used to view are way snappier now. As other say, there's 0 lag.

Personally I'm very happy about selling my iPad 1 (both a 16 WiFi and a 64 3G) and have gotten the new one.

I forgot about safari crashing. On my iPad 2 it was rather horrific when it happened, everything went black for a split second and safari restarted like nothing ever happened.

I made the upgrade from 1 to 3 myself. Browsing the internet feels so much faster, no more horrible crashes, and the retina display is really nice although with my bad eyes I probably don't appreciate it as much as many do. I think the upgrade was well worth it.

I just upgraded from the iPad one to the new iPad and I got to say I love it. Everything about it is such an improvement, especially the processor and the brand-new screen. I would do it again in a heartbeat :D
