New iPad with serial number starting with DY

My one and only iPad is a week 15 DY model and I've been delighted with it. The screen is lovely & the device works perfectly.

Purchased mine this Monday just gone, 20th of August 2012.

It returns the following information, and based on this there is indeed the August model you were asking about. If I have understood your query correctly, as it could also be interpreted that you want us to predict whether a certain model may make its way to your shores. Which I don't have the answers for.

Oh Thats Fantastic ! Great News !! You have partly answered the question I was looking an answer for. Thanks indeed. So a August-2012 Batch with a Serial "DY" is indeed in production, question is If I will get it my hands on it. I am not in Australia so wonder if the same Batch will hit Indian shores aswell, My feeling is if there is a July-DY unit seen in India markets chances are there will be August-DY aswell, in a matter of time.

Couple of more questions if you dont mind, can You tell me how is the screen? is it uniform ? are the whites ok ? Does it have any Tint Yellow/Pink/Green ? Which is this store that you bought it from ? where is it ?

August, it's perfectly calibrated. Well as close as you'd expect anyway!

I hunted around and one of our local retail variety type chains had it going for the cheapest price. I could have gotten it cheaper online, but like you I wanted the latest manufacturing, so I made my purchase in person, checking serial numbers as I went. As luck would have it, the first one I looked at was a winner! I hope you have the same joy! :cool:

Yep with so many news of yellow/Pink/Green Tint in the early days of the release of the New iPad it is good to get a purchase as late as possible when the quality is stabilised so I am also looking out for a Batch no earlier then August if I have set out to buy now, but the store attendants find it crazy here, they say why the hell would u wanna bother about batch and serial prefix, now who explains them what the saga is or rather was :p

For those of you who bough the iPad at a apple store did you ask the sales associate for a iPad starting with DY?

On the contrary I thought it was a very sarcastic comment that he made, that look at this guy, everyone else did any of you guys who got your iPad did u ask for a serial number before buying it.

Bought from : Best Buy ( purchased yesterday )

Thoughts : I have another iPad 3 from the release batch (April built) and it has that perfect milky white screen. This one, referenced above, has a yellow tint :mad:

This is my second exchange and both were/are DY Serial Numbers!!

Going to try a different BB tomorrow and if that turns out to be the same, I'll just return the damn thing and get an iPad 2 !!! Very frustrating indeed!

Went thru the same freaking ordeal with the iPhone 4, then 4S, then got the Retina MBP with that POS LG screen with Image Retention ( thankfully the exchange was with a Samsung screen or that would've been a refund too )

Screen QC doesn't seem to be Apple's criteria!!!!

Why dont you try and get, ask the store guys for a Sept-2012 Make-DY unit ? See if you can get that. That would be the latest so chances are high it will be better ! As we are in late september aswell.
 
Sorta wish I knew about these serials before hand but so far have been lucky with my dy *knock on wood*

Mine just for the sake of sharing is DY week 19 (May) white/16GB
 
I purchased a DY prefix (week 17 - April) from the MicroCenter. I asked specifically for the DY prefix. The sales associate said they had plenty of DM prefix, but he was able to find a DY.

I checked it out for: yellow tint, dead pixels, dust under screen, pink/green blotches, dark corners, backlight bleed, scratches on back, over heating, wifi issues, and uneven application of the oleophobic coating. No problems detected.
 
Anyone with a very recent purchase like in the last 1-2 days who has managed to get a Sept-DY Unit ! How is the screen ?
 
My DY from May is almost perfect. I jailbreak anyways so Color Profiles made it ever so slightly better. Also won't go to iOS 6 until it's jailbroken on the pad, I have too many mild tweaks I can't be without now. Mostly, XBMC and NCsettings toggles.

A family member's launch DN is perfect out of the box.

I've seen lots of garbage ones before I got that decent DY.
 
I'll be exchanging mine today... The other one I have is a Black VZW LTE version [ just checked the serial number and build date ] and it's a DLXHxxxx with a Week 5 [ Feb ] build date.

The screen is oh-so-perfect!!! So, when I compare this White 16GB WiFi iPad 3 with the DYJTxxxx serial and week 32 August build date with the LTE one, it [ the wifi model ] looks dull and yellowish! The brightness and pop on the LTE one is amazing compared to this new one!!

The difference is almost like watching an LED in Torch Mode Vs a Plasma!!

This will be my 3rd [ and final ] exchange.. I'm going to request a DL instead of DY [ which is what almost every Best Buy seems to have right now ] and hope for a much better screen!! If that doesn't happen, iPad 2 it is!

Since you are going for an Exchange can you also check if rhey have a Sept-DY unit available and please post here :) Since you are gonna be there :)
