Just purchased an iPad Pro yesterday and now there's speculation that Apple may release updated models this month. Any info on when? I'll probably return the Pro for an updated regular base iPad or Mini model.

Doubtful this month. I am betting on September.

Why are you returning the Pro? The Mini is already old hardware.

It’s also doubtful that it will be multiple models, just one with WiFi or WiFi + cellular. It also won’t be a pro.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Really, there’s no good solid info on new iPads. Even if there is a new “Pro”, it may be the so-called “modern iPad” (with the iPhone X treatment).

Enjoy your new iPad and don’t worry about it! =)

I think he's saying that he will return the Pro if a new mini or non-Pro model is released this month. Rumours suggests that a new, low cost, non-Pro model (and/or possibly a mini) is coming this month, with new Pro models coming in the fall.

Agreed. Needs to get rid of that Pro before he falls in love with it.

As far as a new mini, just do not think so.

Yeah, looks like ipad pros won't see an update till WWDC in June at the earliest. If there is an update this month, it'll be the regular, or maaaaybe the ipad mini. But even that looks unlikely since it's March 6th already, and we haven't seen any leaks at all. Tic toc tic toc

I see today a lot of stores have them on sale including the Pro. If you could price match you could save some $$

Wouldn't hold your breath for a new mini. iPhones are getting bigger, smaller iPads don't make much sense in Apple's strategy.

If you're considering swapping the Pro for the regular iPad or the mini, then it sounds like you really don't need the Pro to begin with. Might as well save the money. There are some great deals on the regular iPad right now.

Are you kidding? The Eurasian Economic Commission documents are about as good as it gets for solid info on new Apple products, there's 100% coming a new iPad this month or early next month.

Never heard of them.

Nothing is 100% certain until it’s available for purchase.

LMAO, don't be that guy dude. Just don't give advice when you don't even know about these documents and then don't try to make it look like you were still somehow right in your first comment, pity behavior.
And those documents are the prerequisite for selling new products, you don't ask that kind of permission until really late in mass production stages. So it actually is 100% certain barring any major catastrophes.

Better response might have been “Oh, you have never heard of this group? Well, here’s an explanation of who they are and why you can count on how accurate they are...”

To be fair, I agree with bensisko.
Yes, I’m aware of the documents you mentioned and I know what they mean, but nothing is 100% until it actually happens. I don’t even say there’s a 100% chance that the sun will rise tomorrow.

So, for the ignorant among us (possibly just myself), what is the track record of this group? What has been an accurate indicator in the past?

This post is literally the first time I have ever heard of them connected with an Apple rumor.

It’s more about the documents than the group that they come from. My understanding (which might not be entirely correct) is basically that a company must seek permission from certain governing bodies before releasing a new wireless device (such as a tablet) into the market. The documents show that Apple has recently made such a request for 2 new iPads (likely the wifi only and cellular models of the same device, they technically count as two different products). In the past, such requests have always come just a few weeks before the new product ships.
So this strongly suggests (some would even say confirms) that we will see some form of new iPad in the next few weeks.

It’s not a group nor a rumor. The track record is 100%. Apple were the ones to actually request the filing to go into the database. They didn’t just make up model number(s).

Check out last years iPad Pro filing:

https://www.macrumors.com/2017/05/31/apple-registers-new-macs-ipads-eurasia/

It’s something Apple has to do before it can sell the products, as explained at the end of the article:

The EEC filing, published today, satisfies Russia's requirement for companies to register all products containing encryption and/or cryptographic tools.

So while yes, the world could end tomorrow, Apple has at least plans to release a new iPad or iPads in the next couple of weeks, and that comes more or less straight from Apple with these filings.

Here is the thread on the latest filings:

Reading the links you provided (thank you!), the only information that appears to be clear, then, is there are two iPads coming but no information, based on the filing, as to what kind. The assumption, based on other rumors, is that this is the low end iPad refresh. Has there been anything more solid than speculation about what the refresh might be?

I haven’t personally seen anything. It is all guessing aside from the fact that something is coming sometime soon.

I would imagine if an event was going to happen this month, it would get announced in the next week or so which might lead to more information - or like last year, Apple could just release a new iPad via press release.

Given the lack of information, it probably isn’t anything very exciting, but I guess that depends on what the person is after.

Gotcha.

So, given that, I’ll stand by my original statement.
