How do you turn off auto brightness?

A long time ago, I had that option. But now with my 13 mini I don’t see that option anywhere.

It’s truly infuriating to have the brightness go up and down (a) nearly randomly, like the idiotic automatic windscreen wiper setting on a car, and (b) to a higher max than I might ever want to use.
Should be under Display & Text Size in Accessibility

The special outdoor brightness ends up being a gimmick because either it will last for a few seconds before significantly dimming the display OR it will rapidly burn through your battery, then most likely overheat and dim anyways.

It’s in accessibilities display settings at the bottom
Gee.

Thanks!

I’ve suffered from this idiotic auto brightness feature for years, since whenever Apple removed it from the regular Display & Brightness menu in favour of this made-up “Accessibility” benefit.

Although I sometimes need absolute max brightness, more often I want to save the huge amount of battery power that preventing it using the top 10 or 20% of brightness delivers.

Apple's iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models will feature a number of significant display, thermal, and battery improvements, according to new late-stage rumors.

According to the Weibo leaker known as "Instant Digital," the iPhone 17 Pro models will feature displays with higher brightness, making it more suitable for use in direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have a typical maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, but can boost to a peak of 2,000 nits for a brief period when outdoors.

Moreover, the frame rate of intense games will be more stable thanks to the device's redesigned thermal architecture. Frame-drops and lag will occur much less frequently. Similarly, performance when shooting 4K video at 60 frames-per-second in warm outdoor conditions, such as under direct sunlight in the summer, will be improved.

The two devices are apparently set to become the longest-battery life iPhones to date, thanks to both increased capacity and improved efficiency across the device. Previous rumors suggested that the iPhone 17 Pro Max could have a battery over 5,000 mAh in capacity.

The entire iPhone 17 lineup is expected to be announced at Apple's "Awe dropping" event next week on Tuesday, September 9.

Ugly phone . ::yawn:: Apple innovating again.

Pixel might have a better. screen... Huawei and Xiomi have better cameras and Samsungs fold, but still people prefer iPhones... iPhone has something the others don't. Status symbol.
I just hate the greyish whites on the iPhone, I wish the new one would have better white levels and brightness for all levels

I would like a real battery increase and not multiple minutes talk about one hour plus which is 40 minutes for a pro-user before battery health declines and makes the difference in day-to-day-use even smaller.

Five hours longer and I buy one on release day.

Wish they leaked the actual capacity (mah) of the 17 pro battery. 5k for the max model sounds good though.
I'm totally with you on that one. I'm hoping that the 17 Pro's battery will match my 15 Pro Max's, so that I won't lose much if I downgrade in size.

I need the better camera.

The best iPhone ever. What a surprise.
But yes, going to upgrade from the 15 Pro.

What needs to be addressed instead of peak brightness is heat dimming... I was in Dubai last year at over 100 degrees and not only I could barely hold my 16 pro max but the screen gets dims to almost total black when hot...
I hope the new aluminum will help with that.
More brightness is always welcome. I don't care if the battery lasts less...
It’s a device without any active cooling and a relatively small design. There won’t be any magical solution for this problem over the upcoming years.

Excited to replace my Pixel 7 with the Pro Max- looks like there will be loads of little quality of life improvements.
IME the Pixel has much better quality of life features, although hardware is much better. Be prepared to be frustrated by the keyboard, and inability to swipe away notifications as they arrive.

You don't even have to be in the sun.. Earlier this summer, on a 95F and extremely humid day, I was trail running and I needed to stop to check the maps (I took a wrong turn and was lost) and pulled my 16 Pro out my backpack, in the shade of a forest, and then screen was dimmed almost to the point of not being able to see it. The screen was off and in my backpack and I was in the shade the entire time...no idea why it was needed to be dimmed. It was borderline useless.
I think a good solution to this would be some sort of temporary 1-minute bypass or something. Allows you to get what you need in case of emergency, and surely one extra minute of higher brightness won't actually do any harm.

The 16 Pros achieve the same CPU performance as the 15 Pros while consuming 20% less power. However, I still see reports of thermal issues with the newer iPhones.

We’ll see what Apple announces in a week but I’m not sure there’s that much efficiency juice left to squeeze out of TSMC 3nm. I think that’s why they’re looking at other areas like vapour chamber and battery.

So really no reason to upgrade got it. Apple needs to innovate some new features. They are going to fall into the intel trap of just bump speed and hope fomo makes people buy.
There is no innovation left other than upgraded battery tech. The iPhone is a mature product. That said, the operating system can still be perfected, but Apple software is woefully behind (Siri).

Every year when a new iPhone is on the horizon I always get my hopes up there will be some sort of announcement surrounding audio upgrades. I am tired of the keynote and the “latest and greatest” features heavily camera based. I feel like Apple is too concerned with appeasing the social media focused consumer and forgets how to innovate for other people and their interests.

I think 95% of all photos worldwide are taken by smartphones. Yeah, they are going to focus on improving camera every year.

I need the 17 series to have MUCH brighter displays, the 16 is identical to the 15 and I compared them at home last year and in some cases the 16 was dimmer.

Pixel 10 pro hits 3300 nits peak, I need at least 3000 from the 17 Pro.
