new iphone 3gs text messages

hi, just got my new iphone.
just wondering if there's anyway you can turn on how many characters you've used in a text message so i know how many messages im using when sending a text

oh ok cheers anyway

i would jailbreak but cos its a new iphone it has the new bootloader so i'l have to wait a bit til its jailbroken
